  1. What's the hold up. What's the story???? I'm dyin'.
  2. Or maybe it is the perfect time to play them....Rowan has lost 3 of its last 4 games and the team that plays Rowan will have home court advantage.
  3. Lafayette has to be the best 7-13 taem in the state. They have had a brutal schedule -its got to be one of the toughest (if not THE toughest) in the state - and it doesn't get any easier.
  4. I was a little surprised by this cancellation as well - I just wasn't sure whether it was Rowan or Mason who cancelled it. I assume that the Rowan - Lex Cath game scheduled tonight at Rowan has also been cancelled. IMO the loss of these games (unless made up) really lessens the overall strength of Rowan's schedule. They also had a previous matchup with Breathitt that was cancelled due to snow.
  5. Sometimes the gym gives an advantage to the home team, but in this case I can see where this "advantage" would be lessened. I think that many times the bigger advantage for the home team is that they don't have to take a long bus ride prior to the game.
  6. Good win for Ashland on the road. Big numbers for the Connor girl.
  7. An the 16th region fans would say the same about the 15th region officials....oldest complaint in the book.
  8. Who will be some of St. Pat's toughest opponents this season - in and out of the region?
  9. So if they have to choose, I guess their priority is sports.
  10. Here's how I see things shaping up in the 16th this year: 1. Ashland – Good combination of size, speed and experience. Could be the year for Bradley’s Kittens 2. Rowan – defending champs will be a threat, but lost too many athletes from graduation 3. Raceland – Loss of Keeton changes complexion of team, Lewis playing strong inside, solid guard-play is a must for Raceland to excel 4. West – Loss of Stevens hurts, but Perry is a special player 5. East – East lost 4 seniors, but Marshal and Easterling will keep them in the mix 6. Russell – If Parsley returns to the post player of 2 years ago and Russell’s guard play improves, Russell will make some noise 7. Morgan – Season success depends on how Lady Cougars rebound from loss of Eagle. Hembree is one of Region’s best shooters. 8. Elliott – Expecting talented guard Kelsey Ferguson to shoulder the scoring load from a team hit hard by graduation may be too much to ask. 9. Fleming – Scrappy but undersized team is well coached by Orem and should not be overlooked in any single game 10. Boyd – Loss of Roark hurts. Boyd is undersized with no proven scorers 11. Greenup – Graduation of point guard Isaac will be hard to replace for a team that only went 7 – 16 last year. 12. Fairview – Addition of Kayla Day gives Fairview a proven scorer (if eligible). Loss of Mills twins is cause for concern. 13. Bath – looking to improve on 7 – 19 season 14. Menifee-Loss of Williams will be hard to overcome 15. Lewis – Outstanding season of 18 – 9 is a distant memory after losing 6 seniors 16. Rose Hill – Loss of key players means a long season for the Lady Royals
  11. If in fact the possible alligations against Rose Hill involve tuition issues then it doesn't seem as though all the blame can be pinned on Fraley. Wouldn't any tuition decision involve the RH administration? Since the alligations have not been made official, I'm not saying tuition is the central issue, but if it is, I don't think blame could be placed on any one individual. Of course, JMO...
  12. I agree that summer titles mean nothing - summer experience can mean everything.
  13. IMO there is no way any of the top 3 (East, Ashland, or Rowan) will be runaway favorites in the region next year. I see these games a being very close. All 3 teams lost excellent players to graduation, but also have some very good veteran players returning. This is why I believe that development of the younger players over the summer will be a huge factor in who ultiately wins it all in March.
  14. IMO it is a toss-up between Rowan, Ashland, and East for the 16th next year. Summer development will go a long way in determining the winners in March.
  15. Sounds like the "pot" (or kettle)is about to boil over
  16. Not sure I get your point of your post. Why would it be hard for me to root for a team that plays with a lot of guts. I love teams with heart and desire. I also hate bad fans who inappropriately yell at refs, coaches, players, etc... I agree that you should be proud of your Rowan girls who won gracefully and with sportsmanship.
  17. Wyrostek, not sure if this comment is in response to my post, but if it is here is my response (if not, I apologize). Not sure you are getting my point. The tourney officials ask for coaches' all-tourney votes right after half-time so the coaches don't know who the winning team is yet. In most cases I do believe that coaches would rather choose an MVP from the winning side (if they knew who the winners would be) Of course, Griffith's size is to her advantage, just as Martin's quickness is to her advantage. In many cases the physical attributes of a player IS a big part of what makes them an MVP. By the way, I am no more partial to Elliott than I am to Rowan. I truly believe that Rowan was the best team and deserved to win the Regional. Officiating had nothing to do with Rowan winning. To say I am less than open-minded when you don't even know how I am is truly being "less than open-minded":ohbrother:
  18. I think that all teams have good fans and bad fans probably without exception. Unfortunately the bad fans seem to overshadow the good ones with their "enthusiasm". In regard to Lakin Griffith, I believe that she averaged around 19 points and 12 rebs for the season so her Regional Tourney stats were not an aberration. Both Griffith and Martin had great regional tournaments - Unfortunately they only one MVP is chosen (unless, of course, 2 players would tie in overall All-Tourney Team votes). If votes were collected at the end of the finals instead of at halftime, then the MVP outcome might have been different. But it is what it is. Griffith definitely played well enough to justify her selection as MVP without a "conspiracy" by area coaches against Rowan County.
  19. I think I'd have to agree with you at this time:thumb:. The summer programs of these 3 teams will have a huge impact on which team becomes next year's regional favorite.
  20. The success of JV and Freshman teams can be one indicator of future success, but it is not all that needs to be considered especially if looking at the next year's success. For some of the better teams, this season's Freshman and JV players may not see much if any time in next season's varsity games. A better indicator is the experience of any returning varsity players for the upcoming season.
  21. Didn't mean to give that much praise to Rowan. I meant to say Rowan, Eas, and Ashland.
  22. Congrats to Rowan for the 2-peat and Elliott for an unforgetable season. Regardless of refs, location of the game, or any other excuses other posters my have, IMO Rowan proved they are the best team in the region -especially with the 3 teams they had to play to win it all.
  23. Rowan, East, and Rowan will all be contenders for the 16th region crown.
