justafan23 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I know these types of threads get put up all the time. But with official practices starting in a little over a month how do you all think the 16th region will shaoe up? Try ranking the teams and make some predictions.
NashMVP Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 1. Rowan County - Until someone knocks them off. 2. East Carter - Very solid and well coached. 3. Ashland - Connor is a tall drink of water. 4-16 Good luck with that one.
justafan23 Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 I agree with you Nash. It is Rowan County's region to lose. Somebody has to knock them off the mountain. Teams 4-16 are going to be a tossup. One can only hope for a sleeper to come out of those and make some noise in a year where as a whole the region may be down a bit. Thanks for the response.
picknroll Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Ashland has to be the clear favorite this season. They have size(Conner & Hanners), they have a good pt guard (Deitrich), they have shooters (Gambill), they have athletes(Farris, Lever) and they have a great coaching staff. This could be the year for the Kittens
Over And Back Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Here's how I see things shaping up in the 16th this year: 1. Ashland – Good combination of size, speed and experience. Could be the year for Bradley’s Kittens 2. Rowan – defending champs will be a threat, but lost too many athletes from graduation 3. Raceland – Loss of Keeton changes complexion of team, Lewis playing strong inside, solid guard-play is a must for Raceland to excel 4. West – Loss of Stevens hurts, but Perry is a special player 5. East – East lost 4 seniors, but Marshal and Easterling will keep them in the mix 6. Russell – If Parsley returns to the post player of 2 years ago and Russell’s guard play improves, Russell will make some noise 7. Morgan – Season success depends on how Lady Cougars rebound from loss of Eagle. Hembree is one of Region’s best shooters. 8. Elliott – Expecting talented guard Kelsey Ferguson to shoulder the scoring load from a team hit hard by graduation may be too much to ask. 9. Fleming – Scrappy but undersized team is well coached by Orem and should not be overlooked in any single game 10. Boyd – Loss of Roark hurts. Boyd is undersized with no proven scorers 11. Greenup – Graduation of point guard Isaac will be hard to replace for a team that only went 7 – 16 last year. 12. Fairview – Addition of Kayla Day gives Fairview a proven scorer (if eligible). Loss of Mills twins is cause for concern. 13. Bath – looking to improve on 7 – 19 season 14. Menifee-Loss of Williams will be hard to overcome 15. Lewis – Outstanding season of 18 – 9 is a distant memory after losing 6 seniors 16. Rose Hill – Loss of key players means a long season for the Lady Royals
justafan23 Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 Over and Back thank you for that post. Very informative. And again that top 4 is pretty much agreed with. The bottom ones once you look at that list, any thing can happen on any given night. The one thing I see lacking from most of these teams is depth. Most teams have the 2 or three kids that could play anywhere, but its the 6th 7th and 8th kids coming off the bench that hurts. Thats where the top 4 or 6 really pull away from the rest of the pack. I think we will see a lot of close first half games this year, with the deeper squads pulling away in the second half due to depth. Comments?
icsslinger Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I heard a rumor Ashland picked up a couple new players this year. Who are they. Also who did Rose Hill lose besides Day?
biteyainthebutt Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 I heard a rumor Ashland picked up a couple new players this year. Who are they. Also who did Rose Hill lose besides Day? McKenzie Vanover 8th grader, not for sure anyone else. With all the kids Ashland has she won't see any varsity time. They can bring these younger kids up like her slowly.

Everyone seemed to stay focused on the future & it has paid off.
NashMVP Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Doesnt hurt to have rose hill as a feeder program.
icsslinger Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Doesnt hurt to have rose hill as a feeder program. Oh Nash how right you are. Bill does have a few former royalettes in the stable doesn't he. Of course he is not going to say no to them. Especially when someone's papa causes all kinds of discord in the RH program, sees several leave & then pulls his little girl out this year.
