Not quite. Schools like Michigan, Penn St., Texas, Wisconsin, Purdue all have 40,000+ students and are known to be some of the best universities in the country, as well as some of the largest. Large schools do not necessiarly equal poor education levels and small schools don't always equate to a strong education.

It wasn't that long ago that Trinity had 1,000 guys and they were still beating up on most of the schools you had listed. If it was just about numbers, why wouldn't schools like Dunbar and Henderson be bigger players year in, year out? Afterall, Dunbar has 40% more boys than Manual and 56% more than Male. While interesting to think about, it's certainly not all about the numbers.

I think he would be the first to tell you he didn't deserve to be on the team based on his play this year. Doesn't mean he's not going to be a good player in college, but even he recognizes that he was "horrible" this year. It sounds like he's having a heck of a time at the AA practices this week though! I didn't see the game, so I didn't see the original play, so I can't say if it was a fumble or not, but I don't think one can conclude from this frozen moment in time if it was or was not a fumble, because the evidence from one frame in this case is inconclusive. It looks like it was out at this point to me, but he also looks down, so was he down before it came out, or the other way around? This one frame isn't enough. Regardless though, it doesn't matter as T has the hardware. X had their chances to win and didn't take advantage of them. Congrats to T.

No, it just means that 65% of the people think the same way. You could only determine if people think they're a heavy favorite by asking what the final margin of victory would be. Perhaps all the people that voted for the Tigers think they eek it out by 1. Point is that there's no way to know by how much people expect either team to win based on that poll.

Sandman, I didn't have the ability to play at a I-AA level, but I could have played DIII and I wanted strong academics. The best combination for that for me was the NESCAC league. They get 95% of their kids from New England. Given the fact that thousands upon thousands of kids who could play at that level athletically, and the fact that I wasn't living in a recruiting hotbead for them, it's impossible for them to know all the kids that could play for them, thus you have to put yourself in front of them. If, as a player, you sit back and think that everyone and their mother is going to want you, chances are you're going to be disappointed with the choices you have. You'll get a lot more out of the process if you market yourself. I just looked at two strong academic schools that play I-AA football in PA. Only one kid from KY on either roster. I guess those guys don't do their job well.

But if your son really wants to play at the next level, don't sit back and wait for the coach to do anything. It's your son's future, don't put that in the hands of anyone else.

St. X used to practice at Central's pool before they moved to Poplar Level. The schools have a lot of history together.

Sandman, there's more to life than KY. If you want to go out of state to play ball at a non I-A (FBS) school, then you'll likely have to shop yourself around a bit. There's no reason for a college coach in PA to know a KY kid, even if he has the talent to play at that college's level, as there are a lot of kids that can, especially at the lower levels.

Well since Coverdale is getting so much love, I guess I'll have to nominate Todd Walsh, the defensive coordinator for St. X since he was able to shut the Rocks down in the first round. We'll see how they do on Saturday.

Stein is a much improved QB since the first time out. Duece won't be at 100% probably. X got a lot of hidden yards from special teams in the first matchup. Those add up to problems for X in this one. Fortunately for the Tigers, Zoeller will probably play the whole game, and he can beat people with his arms or legs. He will be the difference in this game and the Tigers will claim the title.

The '48 team only had 39 scored on them all season. They were 11-0 playing teams from LA, MO, AL, TN. The average score on the season was 28-4. Their 1905 team only gave up 27 all year long, and they finished 8-2 on the season. Their 1908 team gave up just 18 points on their way to a 7-1 season, beating the likes of UK's JV team. 1936 team gave up 25 on their way to 9-0.

I was looking back through some things, and I noticed that Trinity has shut out at least one opponent a year, every year since 1963 when they went 0-10. There have only been two years in the history of the program ('63 and '57) where they didn't have at least one shut out on the year. Last year's squad was dangerously close to breaking the streak, as they only shut out Oldham County. St. X has had a 1st, 2nd or 3rd team All-Stater since 1973. No one else in Louisville comes close to that streak. Going back to 1934, when St. X had their first all-stater, they've had at least a 3rd teamer every year but six ('46, '52, '59, '70, '71, '73). In 73 years, they've had an all state player in over 92% of the seasons since. What are some other amazing stats around the state?

Birdie, Calpreps currently has X at 13, which is what I think he was referring to. The compilation takes a number of various polls into account. In last week's poll, X was #20 across the 7 polls used.

Rather than parking at St. X, I would suggest parking in the George Rogers Clark Park parking lot. If you're heading north on Poplar Level Rd., it's a left on Thurston Ave. It's a short walk over to the stadium. After the game, the quickest way back to Meade Co. would be to continue west on Thurston, make a right on Burnette Ave., then a left on Eastern Parkway and follow that to I-65. It will allow you to miss most of the traffic coming out of the game on Poplar Level. I believe admission is $6. The concession stands over a wide variety of tasty food, so stop by. Enjoy yourself if you're able to make it.
