The Phillips non fumble (a picture is worth a thousand words)

Featured Replies

Is picture 1753 in the 6A finals pictures the famous fumble play? If it is, Phillips is down and he still has the ball. That is one great shot.

I thought the same thing this morning.

TA

Great job finding that. Your OUtstanding. GREAT CALL. Those plays happen in a mili-second. HS refs. do not get benefit of replays. GREAT Call again and even better job finding 'pictorial evidence'.:thumb::thumb:

Thank you from the zebra crew.

Offside will tell on himself though, see pictures 736 - 739. Might have missed a little facemask call.

Another conspiracy theory put to rest... why couldn't BGP have been in Dallas, TX in '63, or in Roswell, NM???

So, can we now say Trinity truly beat St. X this year?

Thank you from the zebra crew.

Great pictures at 324-326; 475-476-exhibiting complete focus, concentration and professionalism at the highest degree. I really like picture 736!!! :p

Is it supposed to be a fumble or not? Just wondering - what's the conspiracy?

The play happened on Trinity's late drive to tie the game. There were a "few" from the Tiger camp that claimed Phillips fumbled and X recovered. Thus, X should have won the game. The ruling on the field was that he was down before he lost the ball. The picture confirms the ruling on the field.

I guess this means we can keep our gift and not return it. Thank goodness. It looks and fits so good!!!!!

JR here who made his judgement based on the video from the game. This is a snapshot in space and you have to see the whole play. It looks as though PHillips' shoulder is down but you can clearly see space between his hand and the ball. His shoulder is down at this moment. The ball is not in control at this time and from this angle and seems to be leaning against his forearm IMHO. The ball came loose at some time before this picture was snapped. When was that moment? Before or after the shoulder hit. I don't know and neither does anyone else. Question before you rip all over me. You know the ball was recovered in the end zone and Phillips is at the 9? What put the force on the ball if he has control? Impartial announcers believed it was a fumble on the tape. I will conceed inconclusive and agree to disagree as a fan and parent. As a referee, great call guys. Good game Rocks. Congrats on number 18. See you next year.

Fair enough. At the stadium, I thought it was a fumble. After looking at the video in stop action and at the picture, I am convinced that the ref got it right. We can agree to disagree. At any rate, we can both celebrate fine seasons and being part of the finest rivalry in the country. See you next year.
