One thing I thought was really great on the T side was the annual steak dinner the week of the game. Also, after seeing the Trinity "TD" in high def several times, I still don't see how the ref could have called him in. The player caught the ball with his back to the goal line and his heel didn't even touch the line. In the end it doesn't matter as T at least picks up the first and likely scores with a new set of downs from the six inch line. Lastly, Phillips has some serious guns for a guy his size.

Probably the best soccer team KY has ever seen (although there were some great Ballard teams). X is 2/2 on state championships so far this year.

Fixed the math for you -- still a significant amount though, but you can't expect the KHSAA to cater to just X and T though.

I thought it was a great production and adequately featured the history and this year's game. I noticed one prominent BGP member in the documentary. One thing that shocked me was the outburst at practice that Beatty had with one of his coaches in front of the players. I also wish they had shown a bit more of the tailgating, since that is such a big part of it for those in attendance.

Personally, I think that point has already been made.

Manual and Male have played every year that they've had a team. The overall record is in Male's favor, 79-39-6. The first game was played in 1893. Male's 1894 season consisted of two games against Manual and one game against Crescent Hill. Their 1897 schedule consisted of three games against Manual and one against Louisville Law. Manual did not field a team from 1915-1918, so the series stopped then, but was resumed in 1919, with 0-81 loss to Male.

I don't blame you for not caring, but I was just curious, because last year's freshman squad had a losing record. I was just trying to see if the results were due to their maturation or more of a combination of strengths between the two classes.

It was a very nice season for the JV rocks. Was this mostly attributable to the growth of last year's freshmen (who had a rough season), or was it more a result of the meshing of the junior and sophomore class?

Massey's computer index currently has X as the second best team in the country. Lowell in Michigan is the top squad. On Massey's predictor, he has X as a two point underdog to them at a neutral site. He's predicting a 50-3 win against Central. Thus far X has beaten the predicted spread, which is why I think they're so high, but I just don't see them doing that this week. Given the likely non-cover, I think this may be the high water mark for the Tigers in Massey's ratings, unless they're able to run the table in the playoffs convincingly.

This doesn't mean a thing these days. Almost every tam in the state can lay claim to that unfortunately.

Have to put a plug in for Glaser. Undefeated, nationally ranked as high as #2. Only had three starters back on offense and replaced a lot of the defense as well. Despite his tremendous record at X, he has never won a coach of the year award, which I find remarkable.

USA Today has them at 23. They were 15 going into the state finals last year and Trinity finished at #23. Given the loss, they weren't ranked in the preseason.

X is currently ranked #2 in the country by Maxpreps. This was as of 10/21, so it could change when they update the rankings tomorrow. Massey has X at #3. Is this the highest a KY team has ever been ranked? Of course none of it means a thing if they don't finish out the season with a W.

I can't take credit for the comments on the 10 takes, that was written by the author of the article I linked, but I definitely share most of his views.

I enjoyed the post game thoughts from MaxPreps.com writer Mitch Stephens. He doesn't seem to think that X has the size/speed to be (mythical) national titlists. Complete Post Game Story 10 Takes 1) Our first taste of Kentucky football was as savory as the local fried chicken: crisp play, great tackling, fantastic play-calling. Everyone involved between the two schools couldn’t have been more hospitable or genuine. 2) At least with these two specific teams, not enough blinding breakaway speed or big physical kids to be considered national championship quality. Conditioning, coaching, attitude and preparation is all national champion caliber. 3) For more than 38,000 high school fans, the crowd was remarkably well-behaved. We’re not saying folks were sitting on their hands. The opposite. The cheering sections were wild, zany and fun. This was a true slice of Americana at its very best. It’s what I’ll take back to California and remember most. 4) St. Xavier running back Deuce Finch is an absolute gamer. He limped noticeably with a right knee brace during walk through on Thursday, but ran with abandon on Friday. “Adrenalin,” he said with a wide smile after this one. 5) Considering how many passes Trinity quarterback Cameron Smyth completed (24) and how beautifully he spread them out (eight different receivers) and how many would-be tacklers he evaded, it’s hard to believe the Rocks scored only six points. 6) Trinity coach Bob Beatty told us on Thursday that the Rocks were missing a couple offensive linemen to injury. It was obvious – especially the loss of starting center Brett Kapfhammer – that their running game, or lack thereof (31 attempts, 68 yards) wasn’t 100 percent. 7) There were many memorable moments on the three-day trip, but witnessing the pep-rally rants of a cross-country kid (doing the most entertaining Knute Rockne speech we’ve ever seen) and football grunt John Taylor (who later blocked an extra point) were jewels only captured in high school sports. We feel fortunate to capture such a ripe and unbridled age. (See video of the rants next week). 8) If there’s a media favorite in town it must be another unapologetic, wear-his-emotion-on-his-sleeve sort in 6-8, 248-pound Trevor Foy, of St. Xavier. He says what he feels and judging from his words he feels a lot. I’m going to root for this guy. 9) Truly, as hokey as it sounds, it’s hard not to root for any of these kids. They were all polite and impassioned and hard working. Never noted a prima donna attitude or bad body language. Somehow I don’t think these no-nonsense staffs would put up with it. 10) NFL Films was on hand in Louisville to examine and report on one of, if not, the nation’s top football rivalries. Their documentary of the week is scheduled to air Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. on CBS. Considering the quality NFL Films has maintained for four decades to seeing how hard their guys worked to how much access they received, it’s a can’t miss segment. Don’t miss.

Strength of schedule will hurt them in most polls, as the only team that adds any credibility is Trinity (and unfortunately their win over Cincy X is looking less and less impressive each week). If X had beaten another regional power (MBA, Moeller, etc.) then we could be talking, but I just don't see much upside the rest of the season, if they're able to win out. Teams from other states will likely jump them but a Top 10 USA Today finish would be nice.

Interesting to note, that T, Team 2000, has been outscored by the Tigers this decade 220-181 thus far. I'll be the first to say we haven't gotten it done when it REALLY counted, but I thought this was interesting.

Coach Nichols? Seriously though, it's interesting that you used that phrase. Is that primarily due to what X did or what T did to themselves?
