  1. Just something I am doing myself to "stir up" interest in what I hope will become a true conference in the future. Somebody said that the original N.E.K.C. football conference is now defunct so, I was just using the initials. If you don't think I should use it, let me know.
  2. Here are the N.E.K.C. (NorthEastern Kentucky Conference) game results from week 1 of the High School Football Season. Russell vs Greenup County Game article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_237012745.html Ashland vs Raceland Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_237012653.html Boyd County vs East Carter Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_237012843.html Lawrence County vs Coal Grove, OH Game Article: It seems to be that Lawrence feel behind early and their wholehearted efforts feel short in the end. It seems that Goldsmith & Co. have them “Hitting Hard” again in Louisa and they will become more and more potent as the season progresses. They will be having a major measuring stick this coming week with Belfry on the schedule. Let’s see what happens when they show up this coming Friday and then other conference teams can start measuring up to Lawrence. Player of the week: Tyler Boyles of Raceland, 13-20 (1 td) 254 yards passing. Honorable mention: Rashard Carter of Ashland, 21 rushes for 228 yards Tyler Jones of Russell, 96 yds rushing, 111 yds passing (1 td), 4 TDS. Conference (W-L) Overall (W-L) PF PA Russell Red Devils (1-0, 1-0, PF:45 PA:18) Raceland Rams (1-0, 1-0, PF:23 PA:20) Boyd County Lions (0-0, 0-0, PF:0 PA:7) Lawrence County Bulldogs (0-0, 0-0, PF:20 PA:28) Ashland Tomcats (0-1, 0-1, PF:20 PA:23) Greenup County Musketeers (0-1, 0-1, PF:18 PA:45) Next weeks matchups: Russell (1-0) @ Boyd Co (0-1) Pikeville (0-0) @ Ashland (0-1) Letcher Co Central (0-1) @ Greenup (0-1) Lawrence Co (0-1) @ Belfry (1-0) Raceland (OPEN) I want to apologize for the alignment of this post, I will try to make it more reader friendly in the future.
  3. OldRambler, You're absolutely right about Raceland taking on all challengers. It would be tough to play in this conference every year, but they are the only (small) school that would be willing to schedule the other five schools. Without calling out any other local schools, there is no other school willing (or close too) scheduling the five larger schools to make this conference work. No other school BUT RACELAND has the courage to take on the other teams/challenges. I just wish the conference could come to fruition and work out. Look for my updated standings sometime tomorrow, when I am able to include a couple of links to articles dealing with the "conference" games results. Russell vs Greenup Raceland vs Ashland Graybeard, I will be using the ratings to determine the victor of those games that are not actually played on the field (as oldrambler stated), but I want to wait till the end of the actual season to get the best overall rating to determine the "hypothetical" winner.
  4. Well, I'm going to follow my six teams and keep an updated standings throughout the season on what "if" they played a conference this season. The games will be determined on the field (with the exception of 3 games and I will use the weekly massey or cantrell ratings to determine the winners). North East Kentucky Conference teams: Ashland, Boyd, Greenup, Lawrence, Raceland, & Russell Here is the season "conference" schedule: week 1: Raceland @ Ashland Greenup @ Russell week 2: Russell @ Boyd week 3: no games week 4: Ashland @ Russell week 5: Boyd @ Lawrence week 6: BIGGEST NEKC WEEK OF SEASON Ashland @ Boyd Greenup @ Raceland Russell @ Lawrence week 7: Boyd @ Greenup Raceland @ Lawrence (massey/cantrell rating game) week 8: Greenup @ Ashland week 9: Lawrence @ Greenup Raceland @ Boyd (massey/cantrell rating game) week 10: Russell @ Raceland Lawrence @ Ashland (massey/cantrell rating game) week 11: no games I hope to generate some excitement about "what could be" if there were ONLY 3 more games scheduled.:dancingpa
  5. GC's Kicker is getting better as the thread goes on!!! Now, He (whoever he is) is getting 3 FG's instead of the measly 1 FBALL was giving him earlier.
  6. Who is their kicker? Why do you think they will attempt a FG and lastly, will he be GC's MVP in this game?
  7. You could actually allow all 24 teams in the class A playoffs with the district winners having a bye week. All 6A teams will have a bye week when the playoffs begin.
  8. I heard someone mention this before and thought it was a great idea IMO. Keep the 6 class system, with different alignment issues: 6A: top 16 teams enrollment (4 districts), ALL 16 teams makes the playoffs. 1A: bottom 24 teams enrollment (4 districts), 16 teams makes the playoffs. 5A: Top 25% of remaining teams about 48 teams(8 districts), 32 teams make the playoffs. 4A: Top 26-50% of remaining teams about 48 teams(8 districts), 32 teams make the playoffs. 3A: Next 25% (51-75%) of remaining teams about 48 teams(8 districts), 32 teams make the playoffs. 2A: Last 25% (76-100%) of remaining teams about 48 teams(8 districts), 32 teams make the playoffs.
  9. Someone stressed (in another thread) that it was great to read about the OKAC results every Saturday morning, and that is what I would love to do is to PASSIONATELY read about 6 teams every Saturday morning. It would also be a great way to compare your team based on head to head results rather than 1 vs 2 vs 3 vs 4 results.
  10. Oldrambler, I agree with you on the significance of the playoffs! But as a fan, (and the financing of each program) it would be great to have INTENSE games on a weekly basis with so much meaning and GREAT REVENUES for all teams involved. For instance, How nice would it be to have Ashland come to Raceland? What a payday and great atmosphere? All the rivalries are increased with GC vs. Russell, Boyd vs Ashland, Raceland vs GC & Russell, etc. etc. etc.
  11. This is only a football conference I am conceiving!!! And does the EKC even exist in football? Do they have a mythical champ or how do they determine the winner b/c they do not play everyone during the season. So, I don't consider the EKC a "football" conference. I know they play other sports as a conference but I don't understand how the football thing works?
  12. If Raceland could schedule Lawrence Co & Boyd, and Ashland could also schedule Lawrence Co then the following teams could make a new 6 team conference that would be exciting to follow in the 16th region area. I have shown each of the teams opponents scheduled for this season, and the missing teams in parenthesis. Ashland: Russell, Boyd, Greenup, Raceland. (Need to schedule Lawrence) Boyd: Russell, Ashland, Greenup, Lawrence. (Need to schedule Raceland). Greenup: Ashland, Boyd, Russell, Raceland, Lawrence. Russell: Ashland, Boyd, Greenup, Lawrence, Raceland. Raceland: Ashland, Greenup, Russell (Need to schedule Boyd, Lawrence) Lawrence: Boyd, Greenup, Russell, (Need to schedule Ashland, Raceland). I know that scheduling is extremely tough for all schools, but do you think all the schools would be interested in a conference and the missing 3 games is possible to arrange in the near future? Imagine the cash every game in this conference could generate for each school on a weekly basis? Are the schedules of these teams conducive to a new conference by the 2009 football season? Is it possible? people in the know, please post!!!!
  13. I remember that conference too, but it is to my understanding the reason why this conference had to fold is because of scheduling conflicts (not able to play everyone) due to kentucky's district alignments years ago. Another reason why it will never work again is that Ironton is in their new conference nowadays.
  14. This is the first time that I have been on a discussion where I expressed criticism of a team and I was not racked over the hot coals by their supporters. Gentlemen, I would like to applaud each of you for your deligent and well thought out responses and comments about the team and my criticism. This is what BGP is about IMO. Kudos to every poster on this thread.
  15. Would this 6 team conference idea be worthy of its own thread? Ashland, Boyd, Greenup, Lawrence, Raceland, Russell
  16. It is to my understanding that neither school wants anything to do with the other 5 (or 6) schools in football on a yearly basis. (particularly East) This is not a smack towards either school, team or players but the interest to schedule the other 5 (or 6) teams and compete would be to great of an obstacle. If I misunderstood you on making it an 8 team conference with these two more schools, then scheduling would be too unrealistic to get a champion. Not everyone would be able to play the other 7 teams. A good example is some years with the Big 10 (11) having two conference champs that didn't play each other during the season.
  17. Here is the Hype I was referring too, and yes I was misled by what a HS scrimmage consist of. This was my very first scrimmage and I guess my excitement gave me a let down of sorts. GoHerd, I agree that what happens now will not matter later, but I am just thinking that there must be massive improvement from Saturday to declare Russell achieving championships of any type soon.
  18. I wish the Rams could schedule the Dawgs & BC, b/c there could be a new area conference scheduled w/ home & home series if all schools would agree. school: teams on their schedule this year Ashland: Russell, Boyd, Greenup, Raceland. (Need to schedule Lawrence) Boyd: Russell, Ashland, Greenup. (Need to schedule Raceland). Greenup: Ashland, Boyd, Russell, Raceland, Lawrence. Russell: Ashland, Boyd, Greenup, Lawrence, Raceland. Raceland: Ashland, Boyd, Greenup, Russell (Need to schedule Boyd, Lawrence) Lawrence: Boyd, Greenup, Russell, (Need to schedule Ashland, Raceland). I know that scheduling is extremely tough for all schools, but do you think all the schools would be interested in a conference and the missing 3 games is possible to arrange in the near future? Imagine the cash every game in this conference could generate for each school on a weekly basis?
  19. I have to disagree with many Russell supporters. I didn't think Russell was even close to their HYPE! Jones will be one of the best in the area on either side of the ball. Without seeing any other 3A team this year (thus far), I would hesitate to rank them in the top four unless by default. I would reckon that Mason Co. may end the Devils run in both District and Region streaks. I am basing these cynical statements on the fact that I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with both line plays by the Devils and their lack to tackle consistently throughout the scrimmage (yes, 1st team too). They may have a couple of players who hit hard, but they are not hitting as hard as some on here are stressing, they hit as hard as many, many, many other HS teams in the area. I know it is early, and I don't totally understand how HS scrimmages work and what the coaches are trying to accomplish. But, I hope that the Russell coaches were "experimenting" with different lineups and evaluating younger players, b/c they did not perform up to the standards and hype all the russell fans are posting!
  20. Why don't these two teams play in the regular season? Rambler, is it b/c of scheduling or some other circumstance that I am unaware of.
  21. Sun, that is an awesome article. thanks so much! Last question, How long does it take a High School Booster Club to raise adequate enough funds to help start the project?
  22. How much does it cost to lay a football size "Field Turf" field for a school interested in improving from grass to turf? This could be a major factor in whether you prefer grass or fieldturf.
  23. How Does Jackson rate for his age category and class in the nation?
  24. Even though, Coach Maynard is a "former" player and was a good coach when he was in Greenup, I think the best coach for Russell would have to be Coach Morris. You could not find anyone more devoted to the Russell Tradition and kids. He would continue the system currently in place and is the only person IMO who could follow the legend of McGlone and place his own stamp on the program without causing friction or issues with the kids, parents or community members. I agree with other posters that the only way another coach would (or should) be considered for this job "if it ever opens" is if Morris declines, but I as many others don't see McGlone leaving soon unless he needs to step away on his own terms sooner than he prefers.
