New Eastern KY Football Conference

Recommended Posts

If Raceland could schedule Lawrence Co & Boyd, and Ashland could also schedule Lawrence Co then the following teams could make a new 6 team conference that would be exciting to follow in the 16th region area.

I have shown each of the teams opponents scheduled for this season, and the missing teams in parenthesis.

Ashland: Russell, Boyd, Greenup, Raceland. (Need to schedule Lawrence)

Boyd: Russell, Ashland, Greenup, Lawrence. (Need to schedule Raceland).

Greenup: Ashland, Boyd, Russell, Raceland, Lawrence.

Russell: Ashland, Boyd, Greenup, Lawrence, Raceland.

Raceland: Ashland, Greenup, Russell (Need to schedule Boyd, Lawrence)

Lawrence: Boyd, Greenup, Russell, (Need to schedule Ashland, Raceland).

I know that scheduling is extremely tough for all schools, but do you think all the schools would be interested in a conference and the missing 3 games is possible to arrange in the near future?

Imagine the cash every game in this conference could generate for each school on a weekly basis?

Are the schedules of these teams conducive to a new conference by the 2009 football season? Is it possible? people in the know, please post!!!!

Raceland is now in the EKC, if they dropped out of that conference, then they would have plenty of room for the two additional game. Raceland plays in a five team district, so that gives them four games, they already have Ashland, Greenup Co, and Russell scheduled. Four district games and the three conference games already scheduled gives them seven games, if they added Lawrence and Boyd Co that would give them nine games. So it is very doable for Raceland.

I love the idea, I would like to see it to fruition. It would take a lot of coordination with all the schools. Give it a try.

This is only a football conference I am conceiving!!!

And does the EKC even exist in football? Do they have a mythical champ or how do they determine the winner b/c they do not play everyone during the season. So, I don't consider the EKC a "football" conference.

I know they play other sports as a conference but I don't understand how the football thing works?

Yes, I believe that the have recognized the EKC as a football conference as well. With district obligations it makes it impossible to play everyone in the EKC conference. In H.S. football the districts and avancing to the playoffs is where it is at and that is where I would want my focus if I am a coach or AD.

Should this mythical conference come about imo they could call it the N.E.K.C.. There used to be a NEKC conference and that is now the EKC.

Oldrambler, I agree with you on the significance of the playoffs! But as a fan, (and the financing of each program) it would be great to have INTENSE games on a weekly basis with so much meaning and GREAT REVENUES for all teams involved.

For instance, How nice would it be to have Ashland come to Raceland? What a payday and great atmosphere?

All the rivalries are increased with GC vs. Russell, Boyd vs Ashland, Raceland vs GC & Russell, etc. etc. etc.

This is not a good idea for Ashland as long as we have to compete in 5A. IMO, for the Tomcats to be successful in 5A we need to add more large teams to our schedule – which unfortunately means travel.

Now, if we drop back to 4A (which is likely) I would feel differently.

I can see your point as well, Raceland has always played a tough schedule - especially for a class A school and it would be good to see that kind of competetion week in and week out. Being a class A school, Raceland is playing Ashland, Greenup Co., East Carter, Russell this season out of district. That is a loaded schedule for a class A school. Then we get in district and will have to contend with LCA amd Paris (who imo will be really improved). Fairview also has some talent coming back and could very well be a factor.

So, I guess what I am saying is that I am really kind of neutral on the idea. Raceland plays a very tough schedule year in and year out anyway and the district is more important and shoud be the main focus.

JMO and good luck to your LCHS Bulldogs this season, I will be keeping up with their progress. You do not play us so "win em' all" :thumb: (I am a Ram first and foremost at heart but also a Tomcat and Bulldog fan as well)

Someone stressed (in another thread) that it was great to read about the OKAC results every Saturday morning, and that is what I would love to do is to PASSIONATELY read about 6 teams every Saturday morning.

It would also be a great way to compare your team based on head to head results rather than 1 vs 2 vs 3 vs 4 results.

EKC does honor a Conference Champion each year

They also honor:

Player of the Year

Off. Player of the Year

Def. Player of the Year

Lineman of the Year

Coach of the Year

All EKC 1st Team

All EKC 2nd Team

Honorable Mention

I am probably leaving out some awards but I know they have done this for at least 17 years now. They also have the EKC Grid, which takes place this weekend at Fleming Co. and West Carter.
