  1. After listening to the 64th game tonite, and even hearing what (many COY's) Biggs said about Cooksey himself, I will stick with my choice of Fairview's Cooksey! Next, I think we will find out how good of a coach Dodd is in the next 7-10 days, and lastly you see where Mays & Fraley are now. Best Coach, Rex Cooksey by far.
  2. What are you actually trying to say here Scooter? That sounds like a good thread to start and see what kind of hits you get. I am for sure every school has their business communities' support in many areas, as such does the school you support. As for the "bet" statement you made, Some may go with the "underdog" Elliott County the next two years.
  3. T-Fan, Don't blame a loss on one kid!!!! He doesn't win a game by himself and he DOESN'T lose a game neither. I was not at the game, but I can assure you in the game of basketball that one person does not make a team. As I said before about Euton, he and everyone may have an off night I just hope it is not in the opening round of Districts. It is just one of those things that kids go through. Let me say this, I would take a kid of Euton's caliber and talent on my team anytime and I would pick him first in any pickup game or starting up a team.
  4. First night finished! I am mediocre with my picks: 1 correct (Elliott) welcome to Morehead, and 1 wrong (Greenup) symbolizes their season!
  5. So, someone in the "know" needs to inform the people of the 16th, "Exactly, how does the 16th Region choose its COY & POY?" Coaches poll, Newspaper Assoc., Independent panel, Post season accomplishments? Which is it? Will someone with knowledge of this process please let me know, before I keep arguing for or against which coach wins. It would definitly persuade my thoughts on who I stand by.
  6. RickyP, I think Euton is second only to Vanhoose. So don't think I'm bashing Fraley. See my opinion on Dodd!!! So, what everyone is saying is if your team wins Region, then that is your coach of the year? What a joke. The COY is determined by a measly 3 game season (with the significance of 1 District game included)? When did that become the standards of a "good coach" or even "coaching" in specific? OK, I give! I will vote for whoever wins the Region to make everyone happy. I guess I will be pulling for Cooksey(Fairview) and Johnson(Bath) for 4 games!
  7. Guru, my point was that the KHSAA will never split the postseason basketball tournaments into classifications. My opinion was based on the past decision by the Ky Board of Directors not to allow post-season to be divided, thus I was leaving my opinion that Kentucky will not ever split into classifications. It had nothing to do with private vs. public debate. I dont think Ky basketball will ever split into classifications. I wish it would, as UKCatsfan suggests. I hope it does, but I dont see it happening anytime soon.
  8. No way will it ever happen since the KHSAA will not even allow the private and public schools to split their postseasons.
  9. Time to start up District bracket predictions: 64th: Ashland vs Fairview Rose Hill vs Boyd Co 63rd: Russell vs Raceland Greenup Co vs Lewis Co 62th: Elliott vs West Carter East Carter vs Morgan Co 61st: Rowan Co vs Menifee Co Fleming Co vs Bath Co Here are mine: 64th: Ashland over Rose Hill in the Championship 63rd: Russell over Greenup Co 62nd: Elliott over East Carter 61st: Rowan Co over Bath Co Time to show your smarts!
  10. Rose Hill should win this game IMO, unless Selby roughs up (and I mean roughs them up) Rose Hill in the paint or Blanton takes over as he is capable of. I will start this one off by saying: Rose Hill 62 Boyd 54
  11. I think Rex Cooksey has "coached" the best this season, and have been pursuaded to think that Johnson from Bath County is deserving. This is my observation of the majority of coaches in the 16th. I think there are alot of coaches who could step in and coach many of the 16th region teams and have the same results or better. I think Ashland, Rose Hill, Russell, Elliott, and Rowan. Nothing against these schools, teams or coaches but I know each of these schools are successful and their coaches have each done a good job this year but I just dont think any of them should be coach of the year. If Biggs, Fraley, Mays or Daniels wins I can accept it, but I sure would shed a tear and be upset if Dodd wins it.
  12. JB, I think I will make it available to parents since "everyone" in the stands around me believes in my ideas and philosophies. Besides if they don't agree, I will take their money and send them to a private session where I drill my beliefs into their heads until they repeat my philosophies.
  13. I pray to the almighty that you're 50% correct. Vanhoose POY ( I agree), Dodd (down the toilet).
  14. I have never been fired from my job of "coaching games from the stands!" As a matter of fact, I am undefeated and am offering coaching clinics this summer if anyone is interested.
  15. FBALL, your avatar suggests your on the know with the Russell program. What was the deal with the Russell student section having a sign removed from the gym at the game by an Ashland administrator? Nobody seems to be replying to my question about Ashland's district policy on 64th district game bans. How should that have occured since Russell is in the 63rd? Seems to me they were looking for it from the beginning.
  16. Jay, I know of the Beach move, (Football) with Fairview having abandoning their varsity team a year or so before. I think the Beach's decision to improve his chances in football (in hindsite) and going to Ashland are evident now. I do not know of the other's named, but the Beach situation speaks for itself, can you say, "Go Packers!" Now back to the original threads purpose.
  17. Scooter, Great Point Exactly!!! I would agree with you here. It was awesome to watch two schools cheer for their teams so emphatically and not be derogatory or negative against the other team. KUDOS TO BOTH STUDENTS, SCHOOLS, AND FANS!! But to Ashland's credit, I do believe both assistant principals were monitoring their kids too. My only question was Ashland's policy on signs? I thought that policy was only for 64th district contests.
  18. Duck, are you kidding me? Dodd and coaching in the same sentence is an oxymoron!! The few games I have seen of him, he only yells at the kids and does not try to coach them through anything. Besides his influx of talent (not from Russell's primary schools) he has not done anything that would show his coaching abilities. Dodd is the furthurest thing from Coach of the year IMO. It is only an opinion but it's mine. When you continuously stall the ball (to try to win) and numerous times lose that winning margin in the process, at what time is that excellent coaching. If Russell loses the region this season, I will believe it will be because of coaching, freethrows or a combination of both.
  19. Rose Hill has not been able (to my understanding) to get people on their schedule that would justify their status in the 16th region. It must be because they have such talent in the freshmen and below grades. Other teams must be avoiding them now b/c of their upcoming future. Now, FB what have I done wrong with my comments? I have clearly stated in other posts (16th region Coach of Year) that I just don't believe that Fraley is deserving of this award due to the wins Rose Hill has on their home court. My point is: The opponents winning percentage that Rose Hill has beaten on their home court is: 33%, 57-115 (as of 2/20 via Riherd's scoreboard) and Bellevue has a record of: 10-13.
  20. With Bath's recent success and current surge going into the districts, How high should Bath County be ranked in Cubster's next poll? Obvious: 1. Russell 2. Elliott 3. Ashland 4. Rose Hill Solid: 5. Greenup 6. Boyd Deserving: 7. Rowan, Raceland, East, Bath, Fairview (no part order)
  21. Scooter, I was not implying that "it was no big deal" just stating that Fraley's accomplishments this season are not as impressive as people want to say. The same way as I believe that Coach Dodd at Russell should be in NO WAY considered the coach of the year!!! His team has dominated the region but that does not speak to any of his credit as a coach. They win but he is still not that great of a coach.
  22. I totally agree with you 100%, I could not have said it better.:thumb:
  23. Who won the "student section" contest? I suppose everyone was satisfied with the officiating since nobody is complaining tonight, such as many other games this season. Lastly, I guess this past week has verified the top three spots going into Districts.
  24. Freethrow, you're absolutely correct! Johnson @ Bath County has done an excellent job with his team (athletic and school size) while picking up good wins against Rowan, East, Raceland, Morgan and has currently won 7 of their last 9 games.
  25. I bet Rose Hill is upset that they can't bring in another losing record team to "puff up" their home record and overall record. I hope somebody will put Rose Hill on their schedule next year to justify RH's presence in the 16th.
