  1. Russell 28 East 3 4th qtr (5:30 remain) EC takes over on the EC 10 yd line
  2. The more they score now, the bigger the payback will be in the playoffs!!
  3. Russell 21 East Carter 3 Jones TD (as halfback) handoff from Cordle 4th qtr (11:56)
  4. Russell 14 East Carter 3 End of 3rd 3rd & goal. Russell with ball on EC 3 yd line.
  5. Russell 14 East Carter 3 EC 1st down, on EC 26 3rd Qtr (5:45)
  6. WAIT TILL NEXT WEEK!!!!! All 6 conference teams will be in action versus each other. Head to Head matchups with major "conference" implications on the line. 3 Games, 6 Teams, 1 conference I wish the newspaper would pick up on this and generate public knowledge of this idea.
  7. Here are the N.E.K.C. (NorthEastern Kentucky Conference) game results from wk 4: Team………………………Conference (W-L)…Overall (W-L)……..PF………… PA Russell Red Devils……………….3-0……………..4-0……………..155………….73 Raceland Rams………………….1-0………………2-1…………….68………….67 Lawrence County Bulldogs……..0-0………………0-4…………….52………….141 Greenup County Musketeers……0-1………………0-3…………….61…………107 Boyd County Lions……………...0-1………………0-4……………..48………….103 Ashland Tomcats………………...0-2………………0-4…………….68…………112 Ashland vs. Russell Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_258013942.html Boyd County vs. Pike County Central Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_258015007.html Fairview vs. Raceland Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_258014526.html Greenup County vs. South Point, OH Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_258014829.html Lawrence County vs. Prestonsburg Game Article: None available? Player of the week: Russell’s Offensive Line in absence of Tyler Jones. Honorable mention: Ashland’s Coaching Staff and Gameplan. Ashland begins district play this week and it is a fresh start to a “new” season. Boyd County and Lawrence play each other in a key N.E.K.C matchup, because somebody has to win and solidify their spot in the conference standings. Russell keeps going on about its business “as usual”. Greenup looks to make a statement to the rest of their District and show they are ready for a district championship. Raceland has its hands full and will be considered a major underdog going into Lexington this week. Next week (5) matchups: Boyd County (0-4) @ Lawrence County (0-4) Montgomery County @ Ashland (0-4) Russell (4-0) @ East Carter (2-2) Greenup County (0-3) @ Rowan County (1-2) Raceland (2-1) @ Lexington Christian (4-0)
  8. I wish only the top 32 school enrollments would be in class 6A, so every team makes the playoffs no matter what and let them jockey for postseason positioning.
  9. Players of the game! Russell's offensive line (coming through with Jones injury and time off clock in 4th quarter) and Russell's Band. I noticed that too! If they had a band there with their momentum in the 3rd quarter, then they may have a better chance to keep it longer into the 4th. As foolish as it sounds, the band made a difference in the outcome.
  10. You made a great point here about Russell. They seemed to have struggled tackling tonite (except for Jones, 3 definite sticks tonight) and was out of place on a couple of big plays by Ashland. Happy Ol' Dad has every right in the world to suggest that Matt Thomas is better suited at tailback than quarterback and makes Ashland a better team when he is there. Ashland coaches did an outstanding job in putting together a game plan for Russell, and Coach Morris rose to the occassion in another big game. Definitely a "flop" at the end of the game, but then again I saw a couple of players from both teams receive their "weekly" injuries. Jones is the best player in the region (I have not seen JC play yet). I would have loved to listen to what Dickie was saying tonight, but I think it was a fair called game (good & bad) for both sides. Ashland is a much better team than their record suggests!! What a great 6:30 min drive to start the 3rd quarter and I believe around 9 min vs. 3 min in the 3rd quarter alone. It was funny to watch both sides of ADULT fans fall to the wayside when their kids needed them the most! Everyone was involved in the last of the 4th quarter, but Ashland did not bring the fans they say they always do and Russell fans sat on their butts during the 3rd quarter and halfway into the 4th. Student sections were rocking on both sides. Darnit, I missed the "cat chase" from those rowdy Russell kids.
  11. It was brought to my attention that Greenup County should only have an 0-1 conference record. I will correct that in next weeks standings and I apologize to any Greenup supporters. Simple mistake
  12. I will use the current cantrell/massey/litkenhouse ratings during the week the teams are (fictionally) scheduled to play. Raceland @ Lawrence (week 7) Raceland @ Boyd (week 9) Lawrence @ Ashland (week 10)
  13. Here are the N.E.K.C. (NorthEastern Kentucky Conference) game results from wk 3: Team………………………Conference (W-L)…Overall (W-L)……..PF………… PA Russell Red Devils……………….2-0……………..3-0……………..127………….53 Raceland Rams………………….1-0………………1-1…………….48………….55 Lawrence County Bulldogs……..0-0………………0-3…………….40………….99 Ashland Tomcats………………...0-1………………0-3…………….48…………84 Boyd County Lions……………...0-1………………0-3……………..34………….70 Greenup County Musketeers……0-2………………0-2…………….38…………72 Ironton vs. Ashland Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_251011309.html Breathitt County vs. Boyd Co Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_251010756.html East Carter vs. Raceland Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_251011523.html West Carter vs. Russell Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_251011149.html Player of the week: Adam Bates of Russell, 114 yards rushing, 2 TD’s. Honorable mention: Bryan Tollivar of Raceland, 2 TD’s with 61 yd punt return for TD. Russell and Ashland highlights this weekend as Ashland tries to establish itself and the remaining hope for the season. Raceland stubbed their toes last week and will be challenged by a talented and hungry Fairview football team expecting R-E-S-P-E-C-T from area football fans. Greenup County steps across the river seeking their first win alone with Boyd and Lawrence struggling to get a notch into the win columns themselves. Can you say, “Lloyd Carr, Leon Hart, Boise State and Lawrence county ‘Air Raid’ in the same sentence and not have a quagmire of questions flowing from every angle possible?” Next week (4) matchups: Ashland (0-3) @ Russell (3-0) Boyd County (0-3) @ Pike County Central (2-1) Fairview (3-0) @ Raceland (1-1) Greenup County (0-2) @ South Point, OH ( ) Lawrence County (0-3) @ Prestonsburg (2-1) Sorry they are a "Late" this week, I had to take care of some things. Now it is time to let the good times roll, and leave your thoughts. :argue: The bottom 4 are still searching for Win #1, which makes it difficult to argue who is best as of today.
  14. yahoo83, I meant "big boys" by enrollment and classification only!!! Fairview is a Quality team this season and many before that, but you nailed it on the head yourself, when you said, "You are right about the scheduling part of it,..." That is the only reason why Fairview would not be a good fit is because they can't or would not (who knows the reason why) schedule the 5 other schools outside of their district requirements. My only argument is, "I have not heard Raceland faithful complain about who they schedule." It is to my understanding that they appreciate & schedule it that way ,weekly competition, to prepare for their "true" season in the playoffs.
  15. So, is Boyd County a better 0-2 team than Ashland?
  16. Happy ol' Dad, If you read through many of the posts (and others you started) you seem really negative towards Coach Hart. I think you may have something personal towards him! As I read through this post, you seem to be outnumbered by T-cat fans and other area fans alike, you may want to reflect on it once in a while. You may be absolutely correct (inside information) and I'm wrong but if you need to private message me with any disagreement, please feel free.
  17. Sorry EC, your eagles are doing a fine job but they would not schedule Boyd, Greenup, Ashland, Lawrence and Russell on a yearly basis. So, I don't consider them 1 of the 6 teams in the N.E.K.C. Raceland is the only school outside of these 5 with the audacity to take on the "big boys" year end and year out.
  18. I liked this post so much, I thought it was important to bring it up again!!!:thumb:
  19. Here are the N.E.K.C. (NorthEastern Kentucky Conference) game results from week 2 of the High School Football Season. Russell vs Boyd County Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_244011431.html Greenup Co vs. Letcher Game Article: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_244011654.html Ashland vs Pikeville Game Article: see other links on BGP Belfry vs Lawrence County Game Article: see other links on BGP Raceland was off Player of the week: Tyler Jones of Russell, 121 yards rushing. Honorable mention: Zac Wilson of Boyd County, 67 yard interception touchdown. Eric Craft of Greenup County, 213 yards passing. Team………………………Conference (W-L)…Overall (W-L)……..PF………… PA Russell Red Devils……………….2-0……………..2-0……………..74………….38 Raceland Rams………………….1-0………………1-0…………….23………….20 Lawrence County Bulldogs……..0-0………………0-2…………….40………….79 Ashland Tomcats………………...0-1………………0-2…………….41…………57 Boyd County Lions……………...0-1………………0-2……………..20………….36 Greenup County Musketeers……0-2………………0-2…………….38…………72 It seems to be a slow week for the conference teams with no conference games scheduled, but there will be a major match up with perennial powerhouse Ironton visiting Ashland. The Tomcats are trying to avoid a 0-3 start. Next week (3) matchups: Ironton (0-2) @ Ashland (0-2) Breathitt County (2-0) @ Boyd Co (0-2) East Carter (1-1) @ Raceland (1-0) Sheldon Clark (2-0) @ Lawrence County (0-2) West Carter (0-2) @ Russell (2-0) Greenup County (OPEN)
  20. To be honest, I would hate to choose any award that I was not able to compare numbers (defensive award and coaches). Since the Independent doesn't report those types of stats, then I will stay away from them. If I learn how to do a poll, those would be great items to poll BGP'rs. I will look into this, and if anyone knows (let me know how!).:thumb:
  21. Thomas is a SOLID player, but I will continue to argue that it is all about the supporting cast (linemen) too many times. He is one of the best players in the area and district. The only talented player in the district in comparison to him in Grimm from your mighty alumni JC.
  22. I would love for the Ashland Paper to start following these teams too. I have always read where the pen is mightier than the sword. Let's see if the paper has a "big" pen that works.
  23. With Rashard Carter running for 228 yards, You don't need him at TB! Worry about the lines, that is where football games are won and loss! It does not make much sense to worry about him at QB if he is not protected (either at QB or RB). I promise you that coach Hart will make a change if it will improve his chances of winning and advancing in the playoffs against JC, Bryan Station, Woodford, etc.
