  1. Thanks T-cat!!!!!! i have been lookin for awhile now and u came through for me. thanks again.
  2. Like I said in last weeks cubster poll, I think NOBODY should be ranked #1 (shooter don't take offense) what I should have worded more wisely is that the top 4 or 5 teams can be Ranked #1 on any given night. So, I will leave that #1 slot open. My top 6 (actually 5) would look like this. 1. NOBODY 2. Russell-struggling at the line TOO much to win every game in crunch time 3. Boyd- Big Win (again) in the 16th, and are very tough to beat any night 4. Rose Hill- Still waiting to see how they compete against the top of Region teams 5. Elliott- Too unpredictable but very impressive when they are in sync 6. Ashland- Jersey carries much weight, good team, and tough to beat but they keep losing (to good teams) Lastly, I think Fairview and Raceland can be moved up a spot or two.
  3. T-Fan, even though Ashland fans are supportive, they are not one of the rowdiest student sections, they are no way compared to Greenup County or even Boyd County. I have not even seen some of the smaller schools toward the bottom of the polls, but I think Ashland, Russell and Rowan fans are GREAT but not as "rowdy" as the first two schools listed. :argue:
  4. Does anyone know where I can find a HHS basketball schedule for the remainder of this season?
  5. King, not to take anything away from these two athletes, but everyone has been playing physical against him this entire year and denying him the ball because IMO the Sidelines at Russell DON'T do enough to free him up!!! He is such a great talent and all the teams that have a go to guy have used numerous screens on 1 play sets to just free up their guy, but I have only seen Russell throw maybe two to three screens on a drawn out play set to try to free up Vanhoose. I am so glad that he has already signed (or is it verbal) with Evansville, b/c now he can relax and have fun playing this season rather than living day in and day out wonderin if the staff is going to give him a legitimate shot with the ball instead of needing to try and impress scouts for a future that he wants. Many of his points are self earned and deserved. I hope that his free throw funk goes away soon though.
  6. Thanks for the words of wisdom!!! I meant nothing by it, just a phrase. :thumb:
  7. Now is your chance to throw around your coaching strategies. HOW DO YOU STOP, THE TOP 4 TEAMS IN CUBSTER'S POLL 1.Russell 2.Rose Hill 3.Ashland 4.Boyd I watched Fairview give a valant effort against a Good Rose Hill team the other night, and as Champion stated in another post: Rex may have showed his cards a little early in this one. This was basically a junk type defense. This will allow Rose Hill to be prepared come tournament time. I may have played it more straight up and suprised them in march. The good news for Rose Hill is they didnt play very well and still won. I agree with everyone that Rex (& his staff) did an outstanding coaching job the other night, but give us (as a local 16th Region announcer says) "Your Recipes For Success" against each of the top 4 teams. I am still formulating my own opinion for my own question.
  8. I am not saying Russell is a nobody, I am just suggesting that they are not "head and shoulders" above the rest. They are good, as well as 4 or 5 other teams, but they have not warranted the number 1 spot b/c they have not been beaten by another region team "yet". IMO they are #1 by default, like I stated before, who else should be number 1 if Russell is not there? I don't think the coaching staff does enough to utilize the weapons that Russell has this year. That is why I don't think you can bet "sure money" on Russell or any other team in this region.
  9. Here is a question for everyone else to "toss around" and not butcher my opinion. The good game between RH & Fairview results in the pondering of, "Should Fairview be ranked higher than they are or should RH be lowered in the poll?" I dont know who should be in the #2 spot other than RH, but do they deserve the #2 spot? Also, after Russell's "blows by Raceland" game should they even be #1? IF you take out Russell from #1 and put them in #2 (only team worthy of RH #2 spot) then who goes to #1? I would rank it: 1. nobody 2. Russell T3. Rose Hill T3. Ashland T3. Elliott 6. Boyd Lastly, dont take offense to any of this!
  10. What about "Moose", so the fans can enjoy each moment he does something special. Everyone can chant, "MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" I mean he is 6'8" , 205lbs (bball preview). Only Chase Jackson is bigger than him in the entire area. If "Moose" isn't fitting for Dakota then maybe "MOOSE" is fitting for Chase.
  11. Does anyone know where I can find Raceland's 2007 upcoming football schedule?
  12. 57-55 Mason. 7.7 secs to go. Vanhoose and Blair, both fouled out.
  13. Mason, turnover!! Russell timeout after being trapped. Blaire calls timeout.55-54 1:13 to go.
  14. 1:43 to go, 55-54 russell. boy, I was totally wrong on my prediction on this one. But, I sure am glad I missed this one.
  15. T-CAT, I was jus stating my frustration with everyone always "bashing" the AIT. I grew up on the AIT and it was my only basketball fix untill March many, many years. I was not asking a question as to why does it seem weak, but instead extending my frustrations with everyone putting down the AIT. I try to get to all the games, and now that there are more than 1 and out games nowadays, it has made it that much more exciting IMO than ever before. It is DEFINITELY the best tourney for local bball fans who cant travel to Lex and pay for a hotel for 2 or 3 nights.
  16. Sportsfan, Why is it that the AIT always seems weaker? I have read on here for the past 4 years that it is weaker than the past. This is NOT necessary a smack at yourself, it's just that for the past four years I have read this years tourney is weaker than the past. The AIT is not going to draw the teams that the 5/3 draws now over the holidays due to location and financial backing. But, I can say this zealously that it is (and will continue to be) the best holiday tournament that any 16th region team will put on. Raceland, Boyd, etc can have some classic games and teams come in to showcase, but the AIT will have the best overall price for admission than any school in the 16th.
  17. Well, here goes nothing with my first shout out!!! I think Russell CAN keep it very competitive if they come to play, but I believe that they don't have a true offensive "playbook" to run anything against a team as good as Mason and win. Russell has the best talent in the 16th but not much from the sidelines, thus their 10-0 mark makes them seem like they are a good team but they really dont set up anything to display the talents of Vanhoose and Gill. If they do, it sure has not been shown in the two games I have viewed. I know they are trying to do so, but I would love to see more screening per offensive setup to allow Vanhoose more shot options. He could single handily make this game interesting if there was a different mastermind behind the show. I have seen them play a couple of times and to watch lead after lead slowly slip away in the second half seems very frustrating. Russell turns the ball over too much and does not make a high enough free throw percentage to keep them in the entire game against Mason. Let's debate, but ultimately I see Mason winning by 12 to 19 points.
  18. Where do these Ashland Fans "get off" on calling for Mike Flynn's head and his resignation. I believe that it was obvious with the talent Ashland had returning, the only three players on this entire team was McDavid, Thomas, and the name Ashland on their front of their jersey!!!! Reliford never was a factor, as per his attitude most of the games, Cannoy never was a floor leader that was counted upon, and Wilcox never found his stride. Maybe you Ashland fans should look into the mirror and acknowledge, "Maybe it's the talent level of the kids!" Not the coach! Don't try to say, "well when they were freshmen, or in middle school, or pee wee AAU they were this or that. This is High School Basketball!!!! maybe other kids in the area worked harder and had more heart than them, as per Fairview. After looking at the Tomcats schedule this season, being around the .500 mark is a sign of good coaching with a good team. TP, you are probably right if Flynn had a large talent pool, he would win more. Look at the accomplishments of JEFF HALL as a coach. Wins at Ashland (talent galore), goes to CBA (no talent, leaves job), goes to Rose Hill (talent galore), OJ & co leave (leaves job). Isn't that how coaching goes anyway? Great talent=great coach, Poor talent=poor coach! I say, stick with a proven winner and finish the race, AKA Bill Cowher with the steelers got an extension from his owner when he had a losing season. Years down the road, he repays the owner with another super bowl title.
  19. Doesn't anybody believe in "What If" Scenarios? If this is pointless, don't post a reply, just move on!
  20. Only, because I have a "gut" feeling that Russell has more upside than Ashland will next week. Ashland probably is the better team right now, but if Russell shows up (BIG IF), they can be more dangerous than Ashland. On and on, I cant argue that you believe Ashland should be in front of Russell because they probably are. I just wanted to rank them there. So, gimme your seeds.
  21. OK, let's say we were going to seed the 4 District winners, and the four District runner-ups. What order/seed would you give each team disregarding the District they came from? West and Elliott could be in the same bracket or even a first round matchup. Champs: 61st: Rowan County (14-13) 62nd: Elliott County (21-7) 63rd: Greenup County (18-10) 64th: Fairview (21-8) Runner-ups: 61st: Menifee County (5-20) 62nd: West Carter (11-16) 63rd: Russell (15-13) 64th: Ashland (14-14) Champ 1 vs. Runner-up 4 Champ 4 vs. Runner-up 1 Champ 2 vs. Runner-up 3 Champ 3 vs. Runner-up 2 My seeds: C1: Fairview C2: Elliott Co C3: Greenup C4: Rowan RU1: Russell RU2: Ashland RU3: West Carter RU4: Menifee Fairview vs. Menifee Rowan vs. Russell Elliott vs. West Carter Greenup vs. Ashland
  22. I think its safe to say (UKCATSFAN) that defense against Russell's offense has been great against Russell the past two games is not very true. I do give credit (where credit is due) to both Ashland and Greenup on their defensive efforts and good "D", but I think it's starting to show that the true problem here is the awful offense that Russell is manufacturing. Grade school (girls) basketball teams can muster up 4 pts a quarter in an overmatched game! Russell is way too overrated in too many polls! BGP included. Was they good before KC left the team, yes, are they good now afterwards, yes. They just don't seem to be getting into any flow right now with the season starting to heat up. What do any insiders know about their dilemnas?
  23. I have to totally disagree with this statement!!! Ashland did play good defense, not great, but I would love to see how many shots Russell took in the last 3:30 minutes of the game? I would venture to say, three at most. One made close to the end of regulation (less than 11 secs. remaining). The other two, whenever? If you do not call that stall ball, you're not watching the same game I did. Give Ashland credit, but not taking shots in high school basketball does not credit a defense to be "great". Flynn, and staff, did outcoach russell tonight, particularly on the last inbound play. It kinda reminded me of that sick feeling :scared: of watching a UK-Duke inbound play a couple of years ago.
  24. I think the focus should be on "Coach" (termed rather loosely) Hicks here. Whether it was Cook or not. Hicks is the poorest excuse of a coach that eastern KY has seen since Dick Fick dawned the blue & gold in his previous life. Hicks does nothing for basketball except for a typical side "freak" show during games. If he coaches, I have always said that it must be during practices, because in the public eye none is done on the sidelines of ANY game I have seen him "coach". I do not know what happens in the GC gym during practice, but it sure does not translate into coaching on the sidelines. I am still trying to figure out how he is an Improvement over Rex Cooksey (previous coach) or better yet Randy Ward!!! To sum it up, Hicks is Horrible!!! Whether a JV official tossed him or not, Im betting it had something to do with Hicks' everlasting personality.
  25. I am by no way predicting a Russell win or Boyd County's demise, I am just saying that personnel on both teams are even with the Advantage leaning towards Russell. And the bench???? neither has a bench as evident in the first meeting! Sizemore is becoming more efficient and I really can't even name a BC bench player. Lavender vs. Moore is a no brainer, Moore by a landslide! Lavender doesn't seem to understand his role in the offense and continues to take shots away from his teammates! Lastly, when Owens was on the bench, BC did nothing special (as neither did Russell) which proves that whatever team gets hot with their players on the court, stars included, will have the advantage.
