NDA JV is very competitive. Lost to Boone at the buzzer and got killed at Highlands. NDA JV has won most of the rest of their games playing with 4 sophs and 4 freshman. The Highlands JV team is very good and NDA played with just 6 due to illness issues. Had NDA been at full strength the Highlands team would still win, IMO. Highlands had a girl play JV who hit 4 or 5 threes for the varsity that night and who has always been a very talented varsity level player. (Horner) NDA Freshman team I haven't seen play much but I know they have sent their big girls to the JV so it has not been easy.

Especially if your about to play one of these teams.

9th Region These cam out before Conner knocked off NDA. I suspect they will be moving up. Boone plays NDA on Thursday. I still think the 9th is simply wide open and will make an exciting Regional battle.

real news: Walton-Verona senior guard Lauren Heeger was recently named Conference Player of the Week for the NCKC (North Central Kentucky Conference). She had 14 points, including four 3-pointers, in a 60-59 win over Trimble County. She was also recognized at the school for breaking the record for 3-pointers made in a career. Heeger is one of seven seniors on the team, which was 2-5 through Dec. 27. The Bearcats play a 32nd District seeding game Friday at Grant County and will be aiming for the All "A" Eighth Region championship. The tourney starts Jan. 16 at Trimble County. .

The normal way to pick these players is each coaching staff chooses one of their players. Not sure how this list was derived but it was not done in this manner. I think each of these players had an exceptional tournament and richly deserve the recognition. Ten players in a field of 32 or so teams may not be enough. I say let the girls have their due. They earned it.

Ryle will be a force to deal with over the next few years if they can hold on to this talent. The Moss girl (8th grader) averaged 16 points in the Villa tourney, there's a second 8th grader now playing with high level ability too. Both very smooth and good size too. So to recap, Ryle now has young talent, great coaching and from what I have seen the fans are returning to watch them develop. If the administration allows them to continue on this path and support the girls program they will be a 9th region challenger very soon. I hope the parents sit back relax and enjoy this ride.
