  1. Wow. Rowan may not have it as easy as usual in winning their district.
  2. Congrats to Russell. Good win on Senior Night and not surprising at all. They have proven to be the top team in the Region. I hope these two meet again in Morehead and not until the finals. They have proven themselves to belong as the top two in the region. The postseason should be great.
  3. You know I don't think Elliott's defense is that bad. They have problems in the paint due to a lack of size, but they deflect a lot of balls and are very active with their hands. Sometimes alot of points are scored when teams choose to run with them or the press is giving up too many layups, but overall it just ain't that bad.
  4. Russell should win at home on Senior Night, but sometimes the emotions affect players in a negative way. Elliott should not be discounted in this game. I am certain they will make it a very entertaining game and will have a chance to win it in the end. Should be a 3-5 point game and could go either way. All in all I am sure either team would gladly trade this one for a win in Morehead.
  5. Poll looks good as always. My only criticism would be that Rowan may be overrated. They seem to be struggling to beat teams you would think they should hammer.
  6. General, Elliott does play smart. They take good shots for the most part, just quicker than our region has been used to in a while. All high school teams take the occasional bad shot, particularly with 5 sophmores starting and an 8th grader getting major minutes. I haven't seen anyone run them off the floor in a long time. They have the talent and desire represent the region as well as any other team. With the wrong draw most 16th regioin teams will have difficulty as evidenced by past State Tournaments. At any rate who knows who will be in Rupp? I still have to say Russell is the heavy favorite, returning eevrybody from last years championship team, but Elliott, Ashland and possibly Rose Hill will have something to prove in Morehead.
  7. Well said. Every coach should back his players. I may not completely agree with what Fraley said, but, in his shoes I would have probably said the same thing. I think Dodd, Biggs or Mays will say the same about thier player or players.
  8. Jackson and Euton are two of the best this year in the region. However, THIS year Vanhoose is clearly the top player and is on the top team. If we are talking about the future, they are among a very talented group of Freshmen and Sophmores in this region, partcularly at Rose Hill and Elliott County. The next few years may be very special for our region.
  9. Let them play. Three refs means more whistles and probably more bad calls for the whiners to complain about. Just let the players decide the game and noone will even notice the refs. Some of the best called games I have seen this year have been from 2 man crews.
  10. West should not be overlooked. Elliott should win, but West will keep it under 20.
  11. Rowan gets its usual automatic pass to the regional. They should send a yearly thank you to the KHSAA Board of Control.
  12. Good win for Elliott. They took care of business at home and did not lose focus when playing from behind. Timmy Knipp is rapidly becoming an excellent player, especially for a "string bean" 8th grader. Here's hoping the "modest two game winning streak" against Ashland continues for a while. The impressive part of the game was Elliott's pressure defense when needed and continuing the comeback with Ferguson on the bench in foul trouble. Tournament time is going to fun this year!!!
  13. Bottom line Russell beat Elliott early in the year on a last second shot. They are very evenly matched. Rankings by Cubster are accurate as usual. You have the top three, Russell, Elliott County and Ashland, and then you have a group of Boyd, Rose Hill, Rowan, East Carter and Greenup, and then you have everybody else.
  14. Elliott should have problems inside but hey seem to overcome that with speed and athleticism. Their guards get to rebounds so quick and push the tempo so much that size doesn't seem to be the problem that it looks like it should be on paper.
  15. What is the big deal about the drive? The new road makes it a quick trip. This should be a great game between two of the top three teams in the region and travel will have no effect. Getting to play at home will certainly have its advantages as it does everywhere and that should help give Elliott a win in a very close game. If they do not shoot better than they did in Richmond they will get killed and it doesn't matter who Mays pulls off the bench.
  16. I just heard game is postponed with no make-up date yet.
  17. I was not at the game, but it is a big win for Rose Hill. It sure does get tiring to read the constant anti-Rose Hill officiating comments. Take your win and be happy. GoRadio has established himeslf as being a very reliable and unbiased source on the conduct of games and I will gladly accept his account of the game. Maybe some need to grow up and accept that refs call the games aw well as they can. They miss a few and they get most right. Good teams accept that and play through adverse calls. Give the Rose Hill kids credit. They did that and maybe the adults need to do the same.
  18. 16th- Russell, Asland, Elliott County, in nor particular order
  19. I will be surprised if anybody from either team plays tonight.
  20. This might be the craziest thing I have ever seen on BGP and that covers a lot of ground. The All-A is an invitational for small schools, period. It is no more an advantage than the other invitational tournaments during the season.:fight:
  21. I don't think this bunch of kids has the make-up to pull a post tourney flop. I've watched them since the third grade and the play every game with all they have. They are usually younger and smaller than other teams put stay competitive through goood basketball sense and pure determination. I've got to agree with Millhouse on Maynard. Why he didn't get more minutes is beyond me. There were a couple of kids on the floor who looked a little lost offensively and defensively at times, especially when Paintsville made its run to the lead. Maybe he could have provided a spark, but we will never know. I don't know how it could have hurt to try it. Great game by the Paintsville players and coaches.
  22. Ferguson came out strong, but it was obvious he was playing in pain that got worse as the game went on. A very gutsy performance by the young man. No excuses. Paintsville hit the big shots and made their free throws. They got a well deserved win in a very good game.
  23. I don't know why a trip to Morehead would particularly help. Randy Ward took them to Morehead almost every year, not to mention on to Rupp, and politics still cost him his job. That system is really screwed up.:argue:
  24. Best game of the day. You just can't beat a good team without hitting free throws. Elliott's big three played well but the supporting cast looked a little overwhelmed by the atmosphere. Not surprising for sophmores and 8th grader who had not been in that situation before.
  25. They may have lost once in 7th and 8th grades and played in numerous AAU tournaments doing quite well including a 6th place finish in a National event in Dallas.
