Should 'A' Schools have to choose which tourney they are playing in?

Featured Replies

Curious.

I feel that A schools should declare which tourney they are going to play in prior to the season. If they choose the All A, they would be ineligible to play in the KHSAA state tournament.

Unfair advantage to play in a state tourney during the year, then get to use that experience later on.

I think if this proposal would fly, then you would see the group of teams that Stan Steidel ultimately hoped would have an opportunity to play for a state title.

Ridiculous

How many "A" schools have won the state tourney????? It gives them a fair shot at some glory.:madman: :madman:

All A needs to regroup and make the enrollment much smaller now. Seperate into the schools with say 300 or less in the upper three grades instead of the 425 ot 475 number that is used now. Just my opinion.

Keep that Bulletin Board material coming LC fromTaylor Mill way.

I think it is more of an unfair advantage to play in something like the 5th/3rd than it is the All "A", there is better competition in the tourney in Lexington than the one in Richmond.

Do you really think that is why the All A was started?

I disagree, taking the All A schools out is basicly like having a class system like every other state just for 1A schools. Every school having a chance to win the state championship is what makes Kentucky high school basketball so special.

However, I do notice a difference in play from 1A teams after the All A than before. Most 1A schools seem to put all of their preparation and efforts in winning the All A and are emotionally and physically drained for the real big dance will everyone else.

Not sure of what the curiosity is about but then you would have to apply the same logic, to Baseball.

If the enrollment size is your concern, KHSAA can clarify their logic. If the fact that some have better talent, than can't see that argument. Teams also play in numerous Christmas tournaments, with Sweet 16 type formats, that prepare them. Are you proposing they not participate in those, or District, Regional tournament since they could also fall in the unfair category.

As for selecting one or the other, the same could be applied to Seeding instead of the blind draw....If one Seeds, they all should seed.

Dis Brossart play in that?

Curious why this absurd idea would be brought up by someone who was trying to take away from Brossart's accomplishments on the game thread?? Since the All "A" eligibility rules have stayed the same since it's inception (425 or less students in grades 10-12), I would assume Mr. Steidel's got the teams playing in the tourney that he intended!! Any reason you seem determined to try and diminish the Mustang's accomplishment??

It's brought up every year.

In season tourneys are everywhere. If your coach or administration think one in particular will help prepare you for the postseason then they should seek an invite. the 5/3 or the KOB do not really discriminate. If you think you can compete then go for it. What is unfair about that.

FYI--Brossart's enrollment in grades 10-12 is about 300!!

Do you really think Stan Steidel envisioned Lexington Catholic and VonDale Morton slam dunking on opponents in Richmond?

I think it was a neat idea that has become muddied a bit.

Do the Augusta's and Silver Groves of the world have a shot at this crown with the likes of Brossart in the field?

At least Lex Cath recognized they had outgrown it and decided to skip it back in the day.
