Top Five Point Guard's In The 16th
I'd take any of them in any order. Each brings something different to their team and it's pretty much all good.

South Charleston 63 Elliott Co. 60
It is fun to watch the development of 8th grader Timmy Knipp. He is getting more and more playing time and is becoming a solid contributor. With his size (6-4) and shooting touch I believe he will become a star in the 16th down the road.

Cubster's 16th Region Poll 1/14/07
Back to the poll, as usual the Cubster has pretty much got it right.

South Charleston 63 Elliott Co. 60
Yea but they lost a couple before that they shouldn't have. Maynard gives a huge spark off the bench and the minutes have not changed much. Knipp works his butt off too. Both kids would love to start, but what does it matter? The minutes are the same and Maynard plays better off the bench that Knipp does. It is not about parents or politics in this case. It is about what is better for the team and the team is better after the change. When a sub comes in and helps the team and provides an offensive and energetic boost it can do nothing but help. I think some posters are either talking about a problem that does not exist or trying to create one.

GRC vs Rowan Co 1/16
Rowan just can't play with Clark County this year. Clark by 20.

16th Region All "A" Tourney
I have watched most of these kids battle since elemenatry school. They always play each other hard and that game will be close. I hope to see it occur and it will be another great championship game for the All-A. I hope each team takes care of business one game at a time or we may not get to see it.

South Charleston 63 Elliott Co. 60
They lose by 3 to a team Huntington beat by 19. Maybe not too brutal considering where the game was played.
-
16th Region All "A" Tourney
The kids all know each other well and both teams play tough. I hope it comes down to those two we will see what happens.

Rose Hill 81, Fleming County 56
I am really looking forward to Class A and post season. There are going to be some great games with some great young players.

Congrats to Jonathan Ferguson 1000 Points
He works as hard as any kid I have ever been around. Congrats!

Lewis Co. at Elliott Co. 1/12/07 Thoughts
The way Elliott is going right now it should be a blowout, but Lewis County has a great coach and Elliott is so young you never know when a letdown may be coming. I look for a big win for Elliott.

Rose Hill 73 Lawrence County 39
Don't know what happened last night because I was not there, but Lawrence County seems to have these incidents from time to time. It appears their coach must teach a very physical style of play.

Rose Hill 73 Lawrence County 39
I'm not wondering. I'm not tied to Rose Hill in any way and I've been saying all along they were a regional favorite.

Officials Taking Over Ballgames
It is just like every other job. There are good ones and some bad ones. You can't play without them. Complaining does not change them, so we might as well get used to it and hope you get more good than bad.

Shelby County 79 Rose Hill 49
I said last year that the older Faulkner was the key to that team and from reading Rose Hill's line scores and stats it appear I may have been correct. Queen and Terry are great players but the lack of a playmaker to get them the ball, penetrate and hit an outside shot every now and then seems to be killing this team.

Elliott Co. 90 Menifee Co. 69
Elliott seems to be hitting on all cylinders now after a sluggish start. It will be interesting to see them against some better competition. Those kids are starting to beat the teams bad that they should beat bad. That is a killer instict that Mays' teams have lacked in the past and may be a good sign for Elliott.

Ashland - Russell Predictions
I don't see anyone stopping VanHoose in this region. But if Ashland stays close Russell has had trouble closing out games.
-
Boyd Co./East Carter Predictions
Boyd is playing well and East is going to have to find its offense to stay in this one. However, Baker is a good coach and that 27 point effort is not going to happen very often. I think he will address that problem and you can count on the Raiders playing solid defense. Again, Boyd is just too big and will probably take this one by around 10.

Rose Hill 86 Lewis County 67
I have said from day 1 that Rose Hill woould contend THIS year. They have a very young team that, like Elliott County, is still very experienced from many, many summer AAU games together over a long period of time. I have watched most of the Rose Hill players in the summer and they can flat out play. The Class "A" is a real toss up and I am looking forward to seeing it.

East Carter @ Russell -- Vanhoose Out?
Russell should beat East either with or without VanHoose. His playing would should make a difference though. He changes games with his talent. East is a well-coached and disciplined team, but Russell just has to many horses.

Boyd County vs Fairview 1/9/07
Pratt took alot of heat on here last year which was undeserved. He has shown himself to care about his kids and to have integrity. All kids should have the chance to play for a coach with his knowledge and character.

Elliott Co. 97 Fleming Co. 59
They seem to be adjusting well to lineup changes and new roles. The Christmas layoff may have been good for the team as a whole instead of playing holiday tourneys this year. They are a very hot team right now.
-
Elliott Co. at Menifee Co. Thoughts
Should be 20+ the way they are playing now.
-
Fleming Co. at Elliott Co. Thoughts
Should be a double digit win for Elliott, if they don't play down to their competition as sometimes happens with young teams.

Elliott County 78 Rowan County 63
Greene has had injury that has limited his practice time and kept him out. Maynard is a huge spark off the bench. Who is starting really doesn't matter. The minutes are still there for Maynard and Knipp seems to be a better defender. It's not like they need more offensive weapons. Maynard is huge as a zone buster and will be in the game at the end when free throws matter. The lineup change and layoff seem to have rejuvenated the team. Morgan runs the floor better than Greene but Greene is much more of a banger. There will be a time and place for both in most games and each will be a major contributor. The one to watch now is Timmy Knipp. He is going to continue to mature and be a big part of this team in the post season.
