That's pretty funny, but I'll bet the speed sticks in court! It was an actual fully functional radar gun, that has been proven reliable in several different court's throughout KY. Just FYI... Jugs radar guns operate on the same principle as this one(Doppler radar), and this one is proven reliable by the courts, and certified technicians. I would say it is reliable. But, hey what do I know.. :irked:

Will be a great game to watch, but Lee Co has too much for Breathitt. Lee by 10

He has missed two practices as of right now. The board of education also confirmed the fact that he "says he has quit". There are several people trying to get him to stay with it, (including myself). But, ultimately the decision is his. I'm not sure what has caused this, but those are the FACTS as of 2:34pm.

I can say this..I just left Owsley County High School and I spoke directly to one of the basketball players, and a few other students. They told me that Daniel Neeley quit the basketball team. Now, I didn't go ask Daniel, but if I see him I will. I don't think anyone is trying to mislead anyone in this thread, so don't get all jumpy on here. I will call the High School right now and ask them. Then I will get back with you.

The ninth always produces some tremendous teams! Baseball is starting to get "hot" in the mountains! Watch out for those 14th region teams.

Oh, Owsley has another kid who can hit 83 mph consistantly. You have two pitchers who can get it up in the 80's, but the problem is....Everyone else in the 56th district also has two stud pitcher's..At least two!! It will be a heck of a year in the 56th. There shouldn't be a boring game! I can't wait! :flame:

Just watch him this year. He can hit 85 mph with ease, and is trying to increase his velocity everyday. One of the smoothest shortstops in the State. He has the tools to play well at the next level. YEAR OFF, OR NOT!

Speaking of Powell, I was thoroughly impressed with the middle school baseball program at Powell County. The coaches sure do make the varsity coaches job a lot easier. Those Middle school coaches deserve a big :thumb: . They are teaching great fundamental baseball, and the fan support was tremendous. I am jealous!! :sssh:

You come and watch the Owls from Owsley this year and you will see some great 1st basemen. I'm sure there will be people ask me, "why isn't Robert Smith playing short?" You and I know why. After my pitcher throw a game, they will be treated with playing 1st base the next game. It will hurt the defense a little, but I must do what is best for my players health.

You are absolutely right. If Coach Combs wanted to coach at any of the powerhouse baseball schools in KY it could happen quicky. Coach Combs loves where he is from, and I admire him for that. He was also an outstanding College baseball coach, and I feel he could coach at any College team in the U.S. He teaches a lot of technique, but he is also a great person. I truly admire Coach Combs and I am glad I got to coach with and play for him. I use a lot of techniques and drills that Coach Combs taught me in my practices in baseball. :ylsuper:

I'm with you on this one. I really believe if you had a younger, more energetic coach on the sidelines that the Owls would respond a lot better. That is just my opinion, but it seems to be the talk of the town. :sssh:

I'm with bball king. He is on the money with the above statements. I played my High School career with the likes of Cov Cath, and could we compete..NO WAY. Private Schools do have an advantage! :mad:

I'm with the prof on this one. I think he is right on. Not many teams would have played good against Brossart, just talk to the people from Barbourville. Lee County gets another win, and they start their win streak all over again. Just before tournament time too!

When you have players who can choose what schools they wish to attend, you are always going to have better teams at that school. If you have players who played together since they were all like 8 years old, and they get together and decide to goto the same school, they WILL be good. I know from experience that you can choose what school you want to attend in Northern KY. I see good athletes making decisions to goto a school that they have a better chance of winning a championship and being seen by scouts/etc. This happens A LOT in Northern KY.

I'm telling you..you had better watch these Eagles from Leslie County. I believe that Lee and Leslie have the two "best balanced"/"better teams" in the 14th region.

I think that the major problem with the Owls is the year between the Head coach and the players. You have different generations trying to mesh, and it just doesn't seem to work. My best example of this "generation theory" would have to be Lee County. Lee has a young coach and he seems to mesh well with his players. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying anything bad about Paul Smith. He definately knows basketball, but he may struggle to get his boys to play for him. That is the magicak thing that some coaches have....this tenedency to get the most out of their players.

All I can say is come watch him play this season.

Well, Lee County is definately not done for this season. The 14th will be a close one, and Lee County has got to be one of the favorites.

Brossart will give the rest of the teams in the All A all they want. I'm glad the Bobcats made it to Richmond, but the other regions throughout the State are just a lot stronger than the 14th. This game is the only game that I have predicted right all year. I believe it is due to the fact that the teams were in different Regions. If any team is playing each other in the 14th, you might as well flip a coin. You will probably have better luck that way. :eek:

If you were the coach and you had a player like Robert Smith who played on your team, I am so sure that you would sit him on the bench and let some other kid who is lucky to score 10 points play. NO......you and everone else who watched Robert Smith play would play him over whoever...you know why???because he is GOOD.. I am learning to like Robert even more because he is so "watched" by everyone. I am glad he is the kind of kid he is..He does NOT have a bad attitude, and he loves sports. He plays hard and would be a huge asset to any team he played for. :madman:

and it all depends on who is officiating. That is always a factor at Powell and Wolfe. IMO Should it be...NO...is it...YES

What about Owsley County's elem gym. This gym was used for varsity games before the gym was built onto the High School. If you did a layup, you were going to meet the wall face to face. You actually could not even be behind the baseline to throw the ball in. The baseline was right next to the wall. I'm sure the guys who played on it could tell you war stories.

I'm going to have to say that luck had nothing to do with Gene's regional titles. If Gene was given time to get his program started at any school..he would and could win anywhere. He knows the game of baseball and can get the most out of any kid he coaches. You can get kids to do drill after drill and they may not know why they are doing it, but it will help them. Gene's kids will hit, and I know they will because I'm sure they take upto 100 cuts per practice. They will also be sound fundamentally. I sure wish Gene was coaching with me, instead of against me. :lol:
