There are some good coaches here in the mountains. In the 14th, if you go by past results and accomplishments, you have to say:

 

Hammonds(Knott)

Meehan(Hazard)

Dixon(Perry)

 

Those are about the best over there.......they coach a lot alike too. Good coaches with the fundamentals.

Bryan Dean and Gene Combs are two of the better coaches as well.

I agree Brain Dean and Gene Combs are two that would be hard to beat.

Not saying that the ones mentioned above are not they are. IMO

Did Dean ever win the region?? Combs......I don't know about that. THey are good on occasion, but not consistantly. but they are good.

Combs has one regional tournaments (2 I think), one for sure. Dean has failed to, yet.

Lee Co. has been one of the top teams in the region for the last few years. They have won the region twice under Combs and could possibly win it this year.

Russell Melton, Leslie County does a great job. #1 seed in the 54th 3 of the last 4 years. Regional runner-up 2003, lost in the semi-finals last year 5-4. Leslie County has to be one of the favorites to win the region in 2006 (8 returning starters). They have been in the thick of things for the past five years.

You are right. Melton has done a great job at Leslie and will have one of the top teams, if not the top team this season.

Meehan,Combs,Hammonds,Dixon in no particular order. They are the top 4 without question. The rest are all just grouped together. Mr. Wood at Estill will soon join that group of regional title winners.

Regional titles PC20. You can't take those away from him. He probably has more wins and regional titles than anyone in the 14th with the exception of Hammonds and Meehan.

If you had a team with Hammonds as the head coach and Dixon coaching first base, you'd have maybe the best staff in the state.

I think Hammonds has won 6, last coming in 1993. He won four in five years from 1989-1993, with the 1991 team winning the sectional tournament and reaching the final four.

 

Coach Combs, Hazard had a string of regional titles in the mid-'90s with his 1995 team winning the sectional and reaching the final four too. I think Meehan helped him then.
