Hey...I don't like to argue Buck. I guess we really disagree on the definition of "quality." What you think is quality pitching and what i think is quality pitching is obviously different. I've been around high school baseball closely since 1995. I played in 2 sectional tournaments and coached in 3 more. I've seen games at Applebee's and lived in Lexington for 2 years and watched games. I'm here to tell the WORLD that no school in Lexington has quality pitching, IMO!! Like i said, that's different than what you think.

I know what you are saying Lex. I'm not trying to compare....that's like comparing apples and oranges. The two areas are very different when it comes to baseball. Now there are some programs who could compete, but not as an area because of numbers. I was just trying to dis-prove Buckmasters point. Do you agree with him that some schools have 7 quality starters. THat is just not true. Hell, big league teams don't have 7 quality pitchers these days. And i wasn't knocking Lex Chris either. I just picked the first Lex team that came to mind looking at the schedule.

Buck, come on now. Don't pick on the 15th this year just because it's down. EVERY region goes through those years. And there is NO WAY that the #7 pitcher at ANY Lexington or Louisville school could be the top 2 at Pikeville, Paintsville, Allen Central, Johnson Central, etc... NO high school team in the NATION has 7 aces....just doesn't happen. And top notch pitching every day?? I looked at Lex. Chris schedule just to use one example. I saw: Campbell Co, Pendleton CO, S. Laurel, John Hardin, Christian Aca of Louis, Sayre, Paintsville, Hazard, West HIlls, Mercer Co.......top notch pitching every day?? GIve me a break.

You make some good arguments, Buck. But you are wrong about Childers. He actually hit in the high .480's. And it was against very good competition. And NO SCHOOL in the state plays against good pitching every day.....NOT EVEN LEXINGTON AND LOUISVILLE SCHOOLS. Too many people give too much credit to those places in that regard. High school pitchers are high school pitchers. And VERY FEW schools have over 2-3 really good ones. Childers had 3 hits in the east-west all start game that year....including a home run. He would have hit that well at ANY school...he was that good.

I agree Buck. They are simply trying to replace guys with ones that are not as good. And they are greatly inexperienced as well. But i think they will be a very good team come tournament time.

I disagree, InTheGame. I think class systems would be great for the sport. Like i said yesterday, EVERY state that borders KY has classes in baseball. And most in the nation. There must be something to that.

In those 30, how many are pitchers? How many are GOOD pitchers?? If you have 30 trying out for pitcher/catcher, you HAVE to find more good ones than if you have 30 players altogether. Talk about an advantage.

I'm sure that most class a schools all have about the same tryout. Somewhere around 25-30 to choose a 24-25 man roster from. Some schools keep anyone that trys out.

When you hear numbers like that, it's amazing that small schools like Beechwood, Pikeville, Paintsville, Middlesboro, Heath, etc....are able to be as good as they are.

That is the strongest point i've seen yet about the argument for class systems. Football is not the only sport which boils down to a numbers game.

Nicholas had a good run a couple years ago and went to the final four. Bourbon County was never a great threat to win anything. Sure...on occasion, some of those teams are going to be good. But year in and year out, not so.

Well said Buck. Only true game in America. You only have to beat your opponent....not your opponent AND a clock. Play until the best team wins, not until a team runs the clock out!!

Doesn't say much for the competition if you ask me. If a team is winning it that often, then the other teams can't play very well year-in and year-out. Like Paintsville used to be here in the 15th. In the late 70's through the 80's, they won it about every year. But they really had no competition. J. Central on occasion. Pikeville on occasion. But not very often. Now that other schools have built fields and hired quality coaches, it's about evened out.

I don't see the problem with scheduling. Play the same schedule as always. The districts and regions would look roughly like the football. THere are some differences, but for the most part, it would be the same.

A nice topic for discussion, though i don't ever see the KHSAA doing it. My opinion is that it SHOULD be in class systems. A few reasons why(that can't really be argued). 1. The best thing for student-athletes. It would have to be better to have 4 state champions than 1. This would allow 3x's more kids to have that feeling than now. 2. EVERY state that borders KY has class systems. Why don't we? Is it because we are so steeped in our baseball tradition that we don't want to change? I think not. Is it because the KHSAA doesn't really care enough about baseball? Possibly. Is it because we are a basketball state and until basketball goes class(NEVER) than neither will baseball? This is probably a real reason. 3. You would have 4 TRUE champions. Boyd Co or PRP or ST.X or Harrison Co or any of the other large schools wouldn't have the luxury of getting to play smaller schools in the district and region tournaments. On the flip side, schools like Pikeville, Paintsville, Louisville Holy Cross, Heath, Campbellsville, etc....wouldn't have to pull monumental upsets to even get to the final four. Any comments or thoughts?

How does your team do tryouts? Do they have 2 rounds? One and then wait for basketball players to come out?

99-12. That is an incredible record. In the 04-05 seasons, Pikeville went 63-14 or something like that. I thought that was good until I see what Beechwood has done over a 3 year mark!
