Great post JeterFan. And i'm curious......how could it "quickly happen" that Coach Combs could coach at any power house school in KY? Would some fire their current coach for him?? Give me a break......

That is another joke on Paintsville's field. You can have a joker back there catching and it may not hurt you too bad becaue he doesn't have to block any pitches.

Unfortunately, the coach has to take the blame. Everyone knows he was overlooking them.

I don't think you can vote Combs the best because of what happened last year. DIdn't he pitch his #4 pitcher against KCC. The players pick up on when a coach overlooks someone and that is what happened. They thought they could easily beat KCC and they got suprised. The best coaches would have more respet for an opponent than that.

Shelby Valley.......not kept up the way it should be, but a pretty decent field. Light years ahead of Paintsville's.

I agree with you somewhat there Pat. No more than 2 times a week just to keep a little tone and not lose the strength you had built up. During baseball season, there are enough rain-outs, off days to where a light work out can be done. BUT...nothing too heavy.

Should it be done? Does your school's football or baseball coach make the kids lift during baseball season? If so, how often? I know they shouldn't lift on game days.....what about practice? I know most baseball coaches don't want them lifting during season. But I don't think it would hurt a couple of days a week. What do you all think?

I agree with that statement. If he's no better, than i say play the younger one. But if he does prove to be better than what they have, go for it. But i agree...it is a gamble since he's already got a scholarship waiting.

Surely Coach Lawson has enough sense to not put him in the outfield on a cold day or the day before or after he pitches. We have agreed in the past BUck, but on this i disagree. Chase Huffman is a world class athlete. High school pitchers all over the nation pitch and hit. If he proves to be good enough,then i say let him play. He is probably the fastest runner in the region and being the kind of athelte he is, he can handle the outfield, i'm sure. He has just as good a chance getting hurt fielding a bunt or getting a ball hit back to him or anything. Since the high school season is so young, then a lot of times, quick fixes are a good way to go...... But we can agree on this(as we have before)....Glad we don't have to make the decision.....let Coach Lawson do it and we can 2nd guess!!

Again, you are correct. I'd venture to say there are probably 10-15-18 players in the 15th region most years that can play at those levels. And a lot of them go on to do just that.

I think the players and coaches at the good programs are educated about this. I think you are right there, STrike. We have to realize that there are VERY few DI prospects in ANY area in a given year. Maybe 1 or 2 per region. Except maybe for the metro areas of Lex and Lou.

Players also have to take it upon themselves to get seen. Their coach can't make them go to camps, tryout camps, showcases, etc.... When I played, i went to every one of those things i could. It wasn't up to my coach......

It's hard enough to get scouts to come watch the good programs, i.e. PIkeville, Paintsville, Perry CO, Johnson Central, etc.... They are not going to come and watch PHelps play. But like you say Buck, maybe he can be seen in summer ball somewehre.

Can't imagine Phelps having many good ones. I have heard that Stiltner is a good young pitcher.....but he'll have a rough time of it at Phelps.

yes, I forgot about McKinzie. He could be a very good hitter and pitcher. He'll finally get his chance. he's been behind some awfully good players for a couple of years.

Matt Sexton from PIkeville may be on that list before the season is over. He is capable of being a great hitter.

I wasn't necessarily putting them in order. Lawrence may in fact be the best....though i still love PIkeville facilities. Paintsville's field is miserable.

It is one of the worst places to play.....I can't think of any place they would consider holding the tournament that would be worst. Maybe Phelps.....but like i say, they wouldnt' consider that. I rank Paintsville's field behind: Pikeville, JC, Pike Central, Shelby Valley, Lawrence Co, Belfry. It is about the same as Allen Park. Just above P-burg and Allen Central. It is horrible Fan. Runners don't even have enough room to make a turn at first, catcher doesn't even have to block the ball, the left field fence is a joke, the mound is flat, the infield grass is half dead, ect...

it's what a lot of fans enjoy doing...second guessing. but we don't have to actually make the decisions!!

If i'm not mistaken, he was trying to have Smith for Sheldon Clark. Who EVERYONE thought would be in the finals. Sound thinking....but sometimes baseball works that way. Those pitching choices are hard i'm sure in the tournament. Coaches know that they will be second guessed if they make the wrong choice.

I agree. Don't know him personally, but i think he is a good coach too. He knows the game......

That is the year Allen Central won. Lawson blew it that year not pitching Hunter Smith against JC. I guess that happens sometimes when you are trying to set your rotation in the tournament.

What a terrible place to have a tournament.......any tournament.

I know the all a is scheduled for there. What will they do with that?
