15thSportsFan Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 What about the 15th? Also some good ones. With Adkins gone, you have: Lawson(Pikeville) Keeton(Lawrence) Hall brothers(JC and SC) Any opinions?
BaseballFan13 Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Lawson...No matter what certain people have to say, you can't argue with success. I think you will be able to see it especially this year because Pikeville lost a LOT last year! I don't expect them to miss a beat!
Buck Master Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Lawson...No matter what certain people have to say, you can't argue with success. I think you will be able to see it especially this year because Pikeville lost a LOT last year! I don't expect them to miss a beat! Lawson is terrific, but I do expect and I think he expects them to miss a beat. I think by tourney time however he will have them playing well. That is a whole lot to replace, everything up the middle and especially Adams behind the plate. That along with 21 wins from senior pitching. Corners were lost as well. The entire senior class could be playing college ball and I know the replacements and they will not pick up where everything left off. I think Carter, Anderson and Huffman will make the best rotation in the region, I dont know where we will find Miller's innings out of the rest of them. One thing that will help is that Paintsville, Sheldon Clark and Johnson Central took a big hit as well. The loss of Jason Howell will be hard to replace as well. Back to coaches. 1. Lawson 2. Keeton 3. Pooh Hall I dont think anyone in the region warrants being mentioned with these three. I do however like the East Ridge Coach Justice and Mike Hall has done fair but no regional titles to his credit.

The only thing I didn't mention was that I was taking into account the fact that the rest of the region would be down too. I think in comparison to the rest of the 15th, Pikeville will still be fine and one of the best.
STRIKE3 Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 1. Lawson 2. Keeton 3. Pooh Hall All 3 are proven, established coaches and know how to make players better.

Pikeville is my pick due to pitching rotation at this point.

Alfus21 Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Lawson is probably the best in the 15th, but he has a lot of talent to work with...I think he could have done better in a couple of years with what he had.... Keeton is pretty good too.... The Johnson Central coach is good too....
15thSportsFan Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006 Great post Buck. Pikeville will miss a beat. But may be very dangerous at the end of the year. They are going to be replacing 7 seniors with people who quiet frankly are not as good as the ones who left. BUT, I think, like you say, with the pitching they'll be alright in tournament time. I also agree about Justice at ER. He is a baseball man....always has been. Hasn't had much to choose from, coaching 6-7 years at MIllard and now down talent at ER. Everyone likes to talk about Lawson winning with talent, but he won a couple of regions without the best talent too. In my opinion.

Justice does know his baseball pretty good...He's been known to pull off a decent win here and there...The win over Shelby Valley last year in district was a good coaching job by him... Lawson also didn't win the region with the best talent too a couple of times...
Buck Master Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Firebird, I knew you would agree on Howell as you welcomed him last year with cheer. Lawson has been excellent with what he has done since becoming head coach. He is good with the players. They love playing for him. Baseball is a game the best team doesnt always win in a single elim tournament. That is why the Majors play a series. Lawson's record fairs favorably with anyone in the 15th. I love this game.
