Will Ward, Watson Ritchie, JD McCoy, Josh Staggs, Robert Boyd, John Mayo and Josh Chaffins should probably make up the rest of the lineup at different points of the season. Chase Huffman will be in the defensive and offensive lineup this year! I expect him to hit fifth or sixth, and will play left or right. Right would be the best option for him, but we need to see if he can handle the intense sun in right field here at Davis Park.

Do you guys think Huffman will play well? We all know he can pitch, but after all, he has never had an at bat in a high school game. Hitting is not that easy.

I dont think playing him everyday is a good idea. First it is a short term fix and it is not in his best interest to get hit on the hand that has earned him a D-1 Scholarship. What happens on a cold day when he is in the outfield and lets one fly and potentially tears something in his arm. I would be totally against it if I were his parents. I think that grooming a younger player will better suit the team come Tourney time. Also I think he will prove no better offensively than some of the younger kids who have had some at bats, albeit in fall ball or Babe Ruth.

 

The upside is very little and the downside could be devastating to Chase.JMO, but give me Harmon in left and you are a better team.

Surely Coach Lawson has enough sense to not put him in the outfield on a cold day or the day before or after he pitches. We have agreed in the past BUck, but on this i disagree. Chase Huffman is a world class athlete. High school pitchers all over the nation pitch and hit. If he proves to be good enough,then i say let him play. He is probably the fastest runner in the region and being the kind of athelte he is, he can handle the outfield, i'm sure. He has just as good a chance getting hurt fielding a bunt or getting a ball hit back to him or anything. Since the high school season is so young, then a lot of times, quick fixes are a good way to go......

 

But we can agree on this(as we have before)....Glad we don't have to make the decision.....let Coach Lawson do it and we can 2nd guess!!

Yeah we are always right after the fact. I just think that why put a senior out their who is not gonna be that big of a difference between a soph. Just my thoughts.

We still have the same ideas. I agree with you.

Owsley County will look like this: The rest of the line-up is wide open. There are a lot of talented players and I would like to see them battle for their starting position. You have to have Robert and Jason hitting in the top 3. I have some pretty good ideas about the rest of the line-up, but I won't be able to tell until after the 15th when we start hitting on the field. I don't think any line-up is set in stone this early. There will be a few surprises that happen over the course of a year. Kids grow, mature, etc.

They can't make a difference if they can't pitch/catch effectively due to a sore arm. If any of you all pitch and have College aspirations, PLEASE take care of your arm. Some coaches won't do it, so take it up on yourself to look out for you. Make sure you are ready to throw (warmed up, build up to a higher number of pitches each time you throw) before you start "cutting it loose"
