sixtyfeetsix Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Owsley County has a catcher (Jason Bowling) hitting .750. He is 15-20 in the 6 games we have played. Oh, and he has also hit 3 HR's in those 6 games. He is off to a GREAT start. Great kid too.
Buck Master Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Noone can legitimately hit that high for a season, a lot of coaches score reaching on error as a hit. It is impossible to hit that many balls in the hole. I am not saying this kid isnt doing it because for 20 at bats it is possible. But for 150 at bats it is impossible. I hope he stays hot. I am seeing this same thing at the college level, if they get on it is a hit. I as a coach would want to see accurate averages and the roe's factor into on base which is relevant as well. I had a Dad two years ago say his kid hit 500 plus. I know the kid if he played at Pikeville where the stats are accurate then he might have hit 200. I coached this kid in rec ball. Also playing at weak schools you will never see someones ace. Pikevilles all time leading hitter hit something like .469, his name was Chad Childers in 1999. Pikeville has had its share of success and that is phenominal considering he faced everyones ace. My point is even Chad wouldnt have hit as well if he played Louisville and Lexington schools everyday. Batting averages from different programs are not comparable.
Diamond Dandy Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Garrett Wagner at Ryle 43 Appearances- 29 at bats-13 hits- 9 bases on balls-10 stolen bases- .448 batting ave.
GreenMachine Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I will agree with Buck Master, but as of right now Jason Bowling is hitting .750. Next week will tell the tell on his average we play some really tough teams. He is a very good hitter I don't care where he played maye not .750 but way up there.
GreenMachine Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 He has been intentinally walked at least 5 to 6 times already this season
Knuckle Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Rich Witten of Danville is hitting .679 with 8 HR's through 10 games.
Diamond Dandy Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Rich Witten of Danville is hitting .679 with 8 HR's through 10 games. WOW....Hits for average and power. Where does he play defensively?
Sports Maniac Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Rich Witten of Danville is hitting .679 with 8 HR's through 10 games. How big are the fields he plays on?
GreenMachine Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 He hit one deep to center field which was caught, was hit by a pitch, and walked.
The Professor Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 How many hits did he get against Lee Co.? I think that is what Green Machine is trying to say. He and the Owls have a chance to redeem themselves next week against the Bobcats. Jason is a 4 year starter, so he's been around the block a few times. He's a very good catcher, pitcher, and hitter.
Habakkuk Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Tyler Turner was hitting .877 after 3 games with all legitimate hits. However, after today's game against Paintsville I am sure it dropped some as he went 1 for 3.
STRIKE3 Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Tyler Turner was hitting .877 after 3 games with all legitimate hits. However, after today's game against Paintsville I am sure it dropped some as he went 1 for 3. Before today's game Daniel Pugh was hitting .692. Today I think he went 1-3.
Pat Dad Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Knott Central has Brandon Smith is hitting .409 with 9 hits in 22 at bats and Caleb Hall is hitting .286 with 6 hits in 21 at bats.
