Most of the HR's he hit were at the Franklin Co. Inv. Don't know the exact dementions, but an average high school field. Some good teams in that tournament (Franklin Co., E-town, Manual, Trinity, S. Oldham, Ryle, and Danville).

Noone can legitimately hit that high for a season, a lot of coaches score reaching on error as a hit. It is impossible to hit that many balls in the hole. I am not saying this kid isnt doing it because for 20 at bats it is possible. But for 150 at bats it is impossible. I hope he stays hot.

 

I am seeing this same thing at the college level, if they get on it is a hit. I as a coach would want to see accurate averages and the roe's factor into on base which is relevant as well.

 

I had a Dad two years ago say his kid hit 500 plus. I know the kid if he played at Pikeville where the stats are accurate then he might have hit 200. I coached this kid in rec ball. Also playing at weak schools you will never see someones ace. Pikevilles all time leading hitter hit something like .469, his name was Chad Childers in 1999. Pikeville has had its share of success and that is phenominal considering he faced everyones ace. My point is even Chad wouldnt have hit as well if he played Louisville and Lexington schools everyday.

 

Batting averages from different programs are not comparable.

Thats impressive! I know at some High School fields, its like 250 dead center field. Wolfe, Jackson City, and OBI have rather small fields.

This week will be a good test for Jason Bowling. We have Powell and Lee County back to back. I will keep you posted. As for hits..I am very familiar on how to keep a book, and Jason has legitamate hits. Not errors that were changed to hits. Come watch him..you will see.

Keep in mind it is way to early for stats to matter or for us to get excited about them. Tyler Turner is a very marginal hitter but I agree he can do it in the short term. Wait until mid may and restart this thread and I will tell you who can and cannot keep LEGITIMATE stats.

Is Danville's field still the same as it was when Paul Morse hit 60 or so homers over his high school career? 330 or so to center?

You make some good arguments, Buck. But you are wrong about Childers. He actually hit in the high .480's. And it was against very good competition. And NO SCHOOL in the state plays against good pitching every day.....NOT EVEN LEXINGTON AND LOUISVILLE SCHOOLS. Too many people give too much credit to those places in that regard. High school pitchers are high school pitchers. And VERY FEW schools have over 2-3 really good ones. Childers had 3 hits in the east-west all start game that year....including a home run. He would have hit that well at ANY school...he was that good.

Let me say I wasnt dogging Childers as he is the best hitter I have ever seen at Pikeville. But even you dont think he would have hit that high in some of the other regions do you. My point is stats accross areas of the state are meaningless. The 15th is so weak this year, I could hit 400. Chad was a special player and would have been so anywhere, but he didnt face the top notch pitching EVERY day that a Lex and Lou school does. The main difference in these areas is that their Number 7 pitcher will be as good as most 15th Region teams Number 2. Again Chad was a great hitter and by no means am I taking anything away from him.

 

As for Chad's average, I was just going on memory. My bad. 460 or 480 are only 2 hits in 100 at bats. Either is impressive.

And there is NO WAY that the #7 pitcher at ANY Lexington or Louisville school could be the top 2 at Pikeville, Paintsville, Allen Central, Johnson Central, etc... NO high school team in the NATION has 7 aces....just doesn't happen.

Not picking on the 15th. I am from the 15th and my son played at Pikeville. Last year 4 teams could compete anywhere. I dont think that is the case this year however. Pikeville played Tates Creek in 2002 and they did throw 5 pitchers who would compare with any of last years teams Number 2. You must realize their pitchers are pitchers only for the most part. Pikeville last year legitimately had 1 stud pitcher and two good pitchers who would have been in a group of 4 or 5 at a larger school. I will bet you Tates Creek has 6 kids who can throw low 80's this year and they are not fairing that well. I may be wrong but I will list 15th region pitchers who can hit 80-82 below:

 

JC Justin Blanton(80-84), Matt Fyffe(80-84)

Pikeville Huffman(85-88), Justin Anderson80-84)

Belfry Aaron Chapman(85-88)

 

I would venture to say that is it. If their are any more I would be interested in knowing. Only possiblities may be Grimm or Little. I see way to much 71-75 mph pitchers in the 15th each year.

 

Mtn we dont have to agree, this is just my observation. Numbers at the bigger schools make this possible. Also kids play one sport only at larger schools, therefore working toward those goals. Nothing wrong with playing multiple sports as we have to share athletes in the smaller schools. I love baseball but from what I have seen so far this year, the quality is way down.

No one sees first rank pitching every day but speaking of LCA's schedule you do have a few weaker teams, but every one playing State Champion throws the best they have. LCA also plays Lex Cath (2 x), Male,St. X,PRP, Christian Co,Ballard,Campbellsville,Danville,Lafayette(2x), Tates Creek (2x), Dunbar (2x),Henry Clay(2x) they also play in All A with Owensboro Catholic, Heath and other top ranked teams. Out of state teams in Florida 20th ranked nationally Niceville , Fla and Choctaw Fla had very good pitchers. I understand that most people hate hearing about quality of teams in Lexington and Louisville but most of these teams have a couple of very good High school pitchers. Some other areas have good baseball from select teams but comparing any other area to these 2 isn't even close with maybe the exception of Owensboro.
