Also heard the pitcher from Clay threw a terrific game. I'm not sure on this, but I heard he didn't give up a hit to Bell County. Sometimes teams can have a pitcher who is on for the day and beat anyone.

The head coach of Allen Central the past 3 years is also now an assistant at Bell County with Rob Ledington. Hated to see him leave AC, but he seems to be in a good position at Bell.

Knox Central and Thomas Walker scrimmaged earlier this week or last week. TW 17 KC 5 I believe Thomas Walker, VA and Bell County scrimmage tonight.. not sure of the score.

I've been around the game for 20 years and I don't recall ever seeing this situation. It is indeed bizarre for it to occur twice during one summer season. It's good to know these things though for future reference.

I stand corrected. :sssh: A FORCE PLAY is a play in which a runner legally loses his right to occupy a base by reason of the batter becoming a runner. Example: Not a force out. One out. Runner on first and third. Batter flies out. Two out. Runner on third tags up and scores. Runner on first tries to retouch before throw from fielder reaches first baseman, but does not get back in time and is out. Three outs. The runner is forced to go back to first on a fly out, just like he is forced to go to second on a ground ball, therefore it is a force out and the run would not count.

The thought tickles my ears, but I don't like the fact that it would take away from baseball season as well as other spring sports for most schools. The format is fine the way it is - even though this idea sounds good. I think however, before the KHSAA sanctioned an event like this, they should put more money into building up baseball around the state. Nearly every high school in the state has a basketball court and gym, a great percentage of those even have their own football fields and stadiums, but many schools are left to play the sport of baseball on a county field or local park.

^^Don't be so sure. Shelby Valley is tough, and JC may not make it past the first round. It could happen, but both teams have a tough road. My predictions Allen Central/Phelps semifinal Paintsville/Shelby Valley semifinal Allen Central/Paintsville final Paintsville Tigers 15th Region Champs.

I'm excited to see how they come out this season. New coaching staff and talented upperclassmen should have them in the runnings for a district and possibly even regional title. The 13th is going to be tough though, so we'll see how the season goes.

Soils test is great suggestion. It will keep you from doing some unnecessary work and help to understand what your field needs in order to look the way you idealize it.

JC lost their # 1 and # 2 pitcher from last season. The favorites of the 15th are Lawrence County and Paintsville. Paintsville was actually the favorite last season, and JC just got hot in the end to pull it out. Plus the winner of the 15th plays the winner of the 16th this season, so they road will be a little tougher to get to Applebees. JC may be fortunate to make it out of district.

Letcher Central is the favorite, but a slight favorite as Coach Dean returns a number of players from last season's championship squad. Powell County and Estill County could very well be favored as well and will contend for the 14th Region crown. Coach Chris Varney of Powell could very well be the best young coach in the 14th. Hazard will be tough returning a core of juniors from last year. Leslie County and Perry Central will field good teams this spring as well, but both lost some key players from last season. Both are well-coached however and will compete. Breathitt County looks to build from a surprising 18-12 season last year. Lee County was once a traditional powerhouse, but only time will tell if they will be the team to beat in the 14th this season. Jackson City and Jenkins hope to continue the success of their breakout seasons last year while making the region tournament. Buckhorn, Cordia, and Owsley County return some players and look to make a cinderella run this season as Jenkins and JC did last year. Knott Central and June Buchanan will be young but make surprise a few teams by winning games they shouldn't. The future looks especially bright for the Crusaders under coach Randy King. Wolfe County and Riverside Christian will likely be at the bottom, but don't count out the Wolves just yet. They may surprise a few teams.

Lawrence County should be the favorite returning every player but one. Paintsville should not be far behind as they lost some good hitting, but return most of a pitching staff that led them to a great season last year. Johnson Central lost their big guns in Blanton and Fyffe, but return a core of juniors who are very talented. Sheldon Clark is well coached and will be competetive. Pikeville will be young, but always has good talent. Belfry may be the sleeper in this region. Prestonsburg and Allen Central have new coaches and both return nearly every player from last year's teams. Pike Central will be the team on the rise.

North Laurel should be the favorite as they won the region last season, but truly it is wide open. Corbin will continue to be good as they have established a good program, but may suffer the loss of their assistant coach, Ledington. Bell County may be the biggest surprise this season under new coach, Rob Ledington. Middlesboro, South Laurel, and Whitley County have good programs and always field competetive teams. Harlan and Williamsburg look to be tough as well coming off good seasons. Knox Central, Clay County, Cumberland, Cawood, and Lynn Camp may all be underdogs that could be very competitive. Barbourville and Jackson County look to build from last year's 10 win seasons. Pineville, Evarts, and Red Bird will likely be at the bottom looking up.

The fact that East Ridge is very well coached and have been starting young players for a couple of years leaves them a little hungry this year to make a statement. I don't think they'll win the region or anything of that matter, but I do believe they will be competitive. I think East Ridge will make the region tournament once again this season. Magoffin County has been doing the same, and they return a ton of starters this season with a lot of experience. I think around the region they'll beat a lot of teams. I don't think they'll make it out of their district however, and probably won't beat a team in the district once, but they'll be better than the previous years. I really don't think they'll make the region unless they get the draw where one win puts them in. Then it would still take a great upset for them to pull it off, but if a Magoffin County team was ever poised for that upset, it may just be this year's team. The main reason these 2 teams will be better is because of experience and coaching. Other teams that have typically been ahead of them lost a lot and didn't play much JV competitively. I think they move ahead of Betsy Layne, Shelby Valley, and Pike Central this season. They were already ahead of South Floyd and will give Belfry and Prestonsburg a run for moving ahead of them. I think the top 5 or 6 teams are pretty set above the rest. But these two, I believe will move up on the list this year in the region.

Paintsville, Johnson Central, and Lawrence County are the frontrunners this season. Pikeville, Allen Central, Sheldon Clark, and Belfry are the next level of teams that could challenge any of the top 3. East Ridge will be very good after a couple of down years. Coach Justice will have them among the region's elite by season's end. Magoffin County will be pretty tough, but their district is a gauntlet. Pike Central will be competitive as well as Prestonsburg. Phelps will surprise some teams as well. The bottom dwellers are Betsy Layne, Shelby Valley, and South Floyd. My early rankings: 1. Paintsville 2. Johnson Central 3. Lawrence County 4. Allen Central 5. Pikeville 6. Sheldon Clark 7. Belfry 8. East Ridge 9. Phelps 10. Magoffin County 11. Prestonsburg 12. Pike Central 13. Mason County with Chris Lofton could beat them. Owensboro Apollo in the years of Rex Chapman could surely beat them. The Paintsville team of '96 could surely give them a game. Clay County and Richie Farmer's state championship team could take them down. Louisville Ballard with Allan Houston could assuredly win. Many LexCath teams, Trinity teams could take down Huntington High. With all due respect though, this Huntington team could give any of these teams a game and possibly pull out a win against them as well.

It is according to how you view a save. A save is when a pitcher enters the game to save the win for his team and starting (or winning) pitcher. The winning pitcher saves the win for himself. It just doesn't go together as much as just saying he earned the win after re-entering.

The answer would be no. The starting pitcher who has will be accredited the win cannot earn a save -- only a win or loss. It is not possible, even though this situation is fun to play with. The only way a starting pitcher could earn the save is in this situation: He starts the game and comes out either with a tie or leading and while he is not on the mound his team loses the lead. Then when his team recovers the lead, he can come back in the 7th and earn the save. He cannot however get the win and a save -- only one or the other.

I would pick Johnson Central to be my preseason favorite in '07. Fyffe and Blanton will be a tough one-two punch with Conley mixing in there as well. 1. Johnson Central 2. Paintsville 3.
