I believe that lee co. pitched an 8th grader in that game and knott only beat them by 1 or 2. i think with thomas or osborne on the mound it would have made a slight difference. but taking nothin away from combs and hammonds they are both good coaches.

 

Didn't say that they beat them by 5, 6, or any other amount of runs. And, I know that Lee pitched an 8th grader, but the KCC team was motivated for that game, they were ready for that game, and they were going to win that game no matter who pitched. If Thomas or Osborne would have pitched, it may have played out differernt, never know. :thumb:

I understand were your coming from but GOOD COACHES must be able to do this. Lee was in the game against KCC & could have won. If they would have, it would have been a brilliant move!! It didnt so he's criticized!! Just something that a coach must be willing to do from time to time.

Great post JeterFan. And i'm curious......how could it "quickly happen" that Coach Combs could coach at any power house school in KY? Would some fire their current coach for him?? Give me a break......

I would venture to say that if a school is serious about it's baseball program then there are not 30 to 35 jobs statewide that are secure if someone like Coach Combs came knocking and said I want to coach here. I wasn't saying that Harrison would fire Coach Whitaker! All I was trying to illustrate was that he would be an excellent coach at any level in any school in KY. PERIOD :dancingpa

Combs could coach anywhere & could move up the ranks (high school, college & ???)quickly but i think he's satisfied with his location.

Bryan Dean and Gene Combs are two of the better coaches as well.

I dont care what anyone says about coach dean he has made it to the finals of the region more times than i can count on one hand and has a million district championships. Just because his teams havent won the big one yet does not knock him out of the running for one of the best coaches in the region. I admit maybe last year in the finals his call in the 6th and 7th innings were very questionable. But what about the year before that in the finals vs. Hazard. The team that Coach Dean had was not very talented and that hazard team was an overwhelmingly good 14th region team they could flat out HIT. Powell would have struggled to beat them on there best day, you cant hold coach dean accountable for that, sometimes the team that you play is just better than you, and as a matter of fact i applaud coach dean for taking some of those teams as far as they could possibly go. Coach Dean will do a wonderful job at Letcher Central and in a few years you will see that they will become a great team assuming he stays. Coach Dean is definitely in my top 3 of best coaches in the region. :thumb:

Has nothing to do with past years. Powell Co has been winning district titles and has more regional runner ups than you can count. They were doing that when Dean was still playing HS ball in Booneville so that is nothing new in Stanton. The thread is about the best in the 14th. Top 6 Combs, Meehan, Hammonds,Dixon, Melton, Wood. Those are the facts and who would you put Dean ahead of???? And of that team that was not so talented 2 years ago. They only had 7 two or three year varsity starters and of the 7, three are playing collegiate baseball, one could've if he had wanted to and the other is Muncie who will play on the collegiate level somewhere. Doesn't sound like a lack of talent to me. hazard beat them 5-1 and Powell left the bases loaded twice and runners on second and third once. Hazard had 2 unearned runs???? I don't know but it sounds like it was a pretty good game and it definately wasn't decided before the game was over. The game ended with the bases loaded for Powell. :eek:

well if you want to play the regional numbers game then since coach dean came to powell in 00' lets see the results of dean, melton, and wood.

Wow!! Great research Jeter Fan! The numbers speak for themselves, not much you can say after that response. Dean has to rank in the top 3 in the 14'th after reading this.
