Best Coach in the 14th

Featured Replies

Even though it is true that KCC didn't have much in the past, but last year's record is not a true account of what this team accomplished in the district and the region. Hammonds always schedules tough teams. He has his team play tougher teams. I believe, back in 2004, that Paul Dunbar had a number one team. KCC played them in a tourney and almost upset that team.

Say what you will about Hammonds, his teams may not have won much in the past few years, but they did win the district and put out the best team in the region out of the region tournament. And they only lost one player and gained a lot more. They'll be tough this year.

They will contend this year...Like it was mentioned before...The Seniors respect Coach Varney, as well as the younger guys...so look for them to do great things this year!

lee was not the best team in the region last year...pcc, leslie and powell were all better than lee. Lee county was a very beatable team last year. Not taking anything away from hammonds though i thought it was amazing how well his guys were prepared for that game and they most definitely pulled off an upset that day....just not against the BEST team in the region IMO.

I disagree. Lee was the best team in the region last season. They had players that were better than most. I don't even think that Leslie or Powell were better. Leslie had the hitters and Powell pitching, but still, I believe that Lee was the team to beat.

I respect your opinion, though. I look forward to the debates we should have. :thumb:

I think Ryan Turner from Jackson City is a good coach

I think he has done a really good job there he is beginning to turn the programm around.

I have to disagree Pat Dad, however I highly respect your opinion and thourougly enjoy reading your posts.

IMO, Lee was NOT the team to beat last year. Powell beat them out of the District Championshop 3 years in a row. Lee was and always will be very competivie, they may be the favorite this year, but last year....maybe #3 behind Powell, Leslie......going into regional tournament play. JMO.

I agree with Learker. If you had polled the 14th last year then Powell and Leslie would have been the undisputed 1 and 2 all year long. I am not sure if Lee would have even been the 3. I think PCC could have possibly been considered the 3 towards the end of the year.

Coach Combs....Hands Down

thats exactly the way it was...powell was hands down the team to beat...at the end of the season they were ranked 2nd in the MOUNTAINS. on the bgp poll. powell went 2-1 against lee and beat them in 5 innings one game at lee.

What exactly is it that Dean did that was so terrible at Powel? Anyone with any sense would want to move up the ladder. More pay, nicer facilities?? Was ther something more?

If Perry was the number 4 team in the region, how did they win it?

Great draw. Played well. Coached well. That is how. Over the course of the season I think PCC was the third or fourth best team. They got a great draw and played exceptionally well. The 1 and 2 seed played each other in the semis in Leslie and Powell and the 3 seed got upset by KCC. That is why the tourney is played.

I personally don't think going to LCC in baseball was a step up. Powell has a long standing program in baseball that is in the top 3 or 4 in the 14th. LCC may become that but they have a long way to go. As far as pay no one can blame him if that was the reason. I am sure he has his reasons and he left Powell on his own. From what I am told and it is purely heresay is that he is not very happy???????

They scored more runs!!!
