Powell Co 78 Owsley Co 66

Powell wins this game and secures 3rd place in the district. Owsley falls to 4-15 on the year and will be seeded last in the district. This was a good game to listen to. I wasn't there but on the radio they were saying that it was not a good shooting night for the Owls. I do know that Robert Smith hit several free throws. But it seemed that the big fella from Powell was too much down low. Would love to hear from someone at the game.

I listened to it on the radio too. 13 hours of All 'A' ball in EKU's gym yesterday had me worn out. It sounded like Powell's bench really made a big difference. And the Pirates got a lot of offensive put-backs.

The Owls are now the number 4 seed, and will know who they will be playing in the district after Monday's Lee-Estill game.

Yeah, wonder where the Owls were on the defensive glass tonight. Seemed like every other shot was put back by Powell.

Sorry to hear that about the Owls. I had hoped to hear a different outcome.

The Pirates play harg nosed defense and are aggressive on the boards. The Owls struggle with big centers most of the time. Except JBS go figure

Well, I went to this game and really thought the Owls played tired. They looked very lethargic. Don't know if they had hard practice but defensively they played beat. Trey Congleton got some "tired" fouls. By that I mean kind of lazy defense and over compensating and fouling. Smith played ok tonight but forced it a little IMO. Neeley looked tired as well. Just don't know what to make of these owls. They are better than they play but I just never see them play together. I guess I should have seen the JBS game.

Powell did play good defense Bballking. They played well all around. That bench scares me a little. I am hoping we win at Lee so we can play Owsley. Good win here Pirates. I was really hoping to see Owsley play better than they did. I don't think their season has much hope. Probably knocked out in the first round of the District by Estill.(I'm predicting a win at Lee :D)

I listened to the game in the radio on my way back from Richmond. I figure we have to beat somebody to get to the region so whoever it is we will just have to bring everything we got so we can make it to the regional tournamnt. We will see you monday night we are licking some serious wounds right now. Estill is getting hot and catching us off a real beating. Hope we show up Monday night and play competivaly. The season not over we just got to refocus and start playing with more intensity than we have all season.

Stop by the scorers table and introduce yourself, I should be there.

The Owls need to get together just for a little while longer and finish this tough season strong.

I just don't see it happening. I have seen the Owls play a several times this year. Playing together is a big problem for this team. They just can't do it it seems. I really think next year they will be better because a lot of thses kids will be comfortable playing ball. Its the first year for several I think.

Wow I can't believe I got one right. Either way I think Powell or Owsley will be a tough test in the first round for Lee

I think that the major problem with the Owls is the year between the Head coach and the players. You have different generations trying to mesh, and it just doesn't seem to work. My best example of this "generation theory" would have to be Lee County. Lee has a young coach and he seems to mesh well with his players. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying anything bad about Paul Smith. He definately knows basketball, but he may struggle to get his boys to play for him. That is the magicak thing that some coaches have....this tenedency to get the most out of their players.

Any stats for this game?

Only what was in this morning's Lex H-L.

Owsley Co. (66) Smith 34, Neeley 8, Congleton 7, Wilson 10, Riley 2, Reed 3, Bowling 2

Powell Co. (78) Romans 18, Johnson 5, Dennis 21, Pelfrey 6, Overbee 6, Kinser 9, Merriman 7, Banks 7

OC 12 14 20 20--66

The radio broadcasters seemed to think that Powell's depth wore the Owls down. They certainly got handled in the rebounding department, particularly on the defensive boards. The linescores show that the big difference maker was the second quarter, the other three quarters were about even. Owsley dug themselves a hole, and never could overcome it, although they did pull within 3 at one time.

The owls can't seem to get it together and with their talent in 3 positions they should be a better team. Coaching can't seem to get them on the same page. Cut Powell's lead to 3 at one time and then coaching let it vault back to 15 without a timeout, change, or substitution. I am sure that the gentleman that coaches there is a quality guy but he just isn't getting it done. IMO.I have only seen the Owls 6 times this year. Any opinions from the Owl faithful.
