Worst High school gyms you ever played or watched a game in..????

Featured Replies

I would say the old St. Henry gym or possibly the old Beechwood high school gymnasium. Talk about playing in a cracker box.....this was in the mid 80's obviously....they have since upgraded.

Old Powell County gym used in '70's. Just didn't come much worse. Don't come much better than Powell"s gym now, though.

Riverside Christian & Cordia

Not enough setting!!!

This converstain begins and ends with Feds Creek in the 15th region. (They consolidated to form East Ridge) This gym had 3 rows of bleachers on the floor (one of which was the bench) and then fans had to climb a balcony to an upper level to watch games. The balcony extended over the playing floor so anytime someone spilt their beverages it seemed to be raining Cola on the floor. They also had poles supporting the balcony that were inbounds, they just had big pads wrapped around them. It was the worst gym I ever played in and gave Feds Creek a definate home court advantage. Even tho it was a bad gym, there was something impressive about it as well. When you walked in that gym you knew they didn't make em like that anymore.

St. Henry's old gym is the best gym in NKY!!

Wayland High! The gym King Kelly Coleman made famous 40 years ago or something! Its just used for pick-up games, and league games now though.

Riverside has a pretty bad gym. Buckhorn could use a new one. And Estill has a nice gym, just a ugly floor. Slick too.

Agreed, JK. As a freshman we were the last HS team to ever play in that gym. The JV and Varsity had been playing their home games at Thomas More College at that point. We went 7-1 at home that year and it must have been the home court advantage.

P.S. Since then the gym has been remodled some. New bleachers, new floor, new back boards. It is much easier on the eyes now than it was. But still the same old cracker box.

Double half court line are alway interesting

I would have to add Dayton's old gym. It had all of the things that make for a bad gym to play in. A stage on one end line, almost no seating and what seating they had was in band box design right up to the sidelines and I believe they also had the double over and back lines.
