St. Henry it feels like a hollow floor hate it

I remember playing at SK in about 1979 and we had a bench.

I do remember sitting in the stands on the front row at Bracken County.

Where were the benches located? I'm too young to remember actual games in the Old gym, but there wasn't any room between the OOB's line and the stands. I used to love it when the ladies had a home game on Tuesdays and Fridays, not as much room to run and one rim was a few inches short, I could almost touch that one.

The benches were between the oobs line and the concrete wall!! Evryonne sitting on the benches actually had their feet inbounds!!

St. Henry NOW? or Old Gym? The gym they have now is one of the best in the region.

The old St. Henry gym had some spring, I don't know about the new one.

the Whitesburg Gym still in use by LCC is the worst active gym.

I'm not crazy about W-Burg's gym either, but Riverside Christian's gym is pretty bad, as far as active gyms are concerned. First, it won't seat 50 people, and they use to play on a concrete floor, but I was told they now have a rubber-like floor. And it used to be cold in there, it seemed like we always ended up with a couple of kids with sprained ankles or jammed thumbs. They might have made some improvements since we last played there in the late '70s, but I don't see how they could do much about the seating.

Cordia, imo, is the second worst active gym in the region. It sits down in a hole, with steep steps to navigate which can be dangerous in the winter.... one slip and you'll find out who won the game next week  .There's no where to park, and the dressing rooms are in the basement. It will probably seat about 150-200....but at least the floor is regulation size.

Speaking of Riverside, I had a friend that played for Lee County while I was in school. He was running for a loose ball and ran right into the wall and was knocked UNCONSIOUS. He layed there for about 5 minutes. It was scary, but he was fine.

St Pat's gym in Maysville, Terrible to watch a game there.

Augusta's gym by far one of the best old gyms I have been in. The place has a heart of its own.

Heritage!

Thats a pretty bad gym. Small, funky floor

The "Pool" at Fleming, played there in the early 70's. Had to climb ladders to get in and out of the place and dress in a dungeon underneath. Pretty bad for the visitors.

The old "pool" gym at Fleming County' old High School (now Simons Middle School) was horrible!! I can't think of any worse gym.

On one end you had stairs up to the exit, on the other end you had stairs going down into the locker rooms. On either side were the sides of a former swimming pool soaring approx. twelve feet above your head. Either way you went you were either falling up or down stairs, or ramming into a concrete wall. The sidelines had about 2 feet of give space, made it very difficult to take the ball out.

Fans sat in one of two upper levels. The first level was accessible by ladders down onto the gym floor level. Players had to climb up these ladders to check it at the scorers table on the first level. The top balcony consisted of 3-4 narrow benches that circled the entire gym.

The railings around the top level were so flimsy they couldnt prevent the lightest of people from falling. I am surprised there weren't more stories of people falling from the top level and getting hurt.

Thank goodness they filled that gym in and built a new one. It was much more than your common eye sore... it was a threat to human safety.

The old Jackson City Gym had only 3 rows of bleachers. There were holes cut out in the bleachers so you could in bound the ball from the side.

 :thumb: I was thinking the same thing.

How bout those steps down into Cordia's gym? Your lucky not to have a player injured before you even get in the place!!

My team was in that gym a couple years back and the lockerrooms at Cordia are down in the basement. There are 2 or 3 narrow flights of stairs pointing straight down that you have to go just to get to a cafeteria/lockerroom. I'm not even talking about the stairs to get to the gym.

St. Pats gym, before and after the renovation.

I always liked the scoreboard horn at the Van Lear gym. They were the bank mules and the horn brayed, as in hee-haw. Another favorite was Martin where on the sideline opposite the stage, you had to step outside the double doors to take the ball out of bounds. And they kept the tiny visitors dressing room about 110 to zap all the strength out of you at halftime.
