The toughest place I ever played was on the road versus Oak Hill Academy. After a horrible bus ride to the end of the world you get to walk into a packed cracker box with retired jerseys, national champion trophies, and pretty much a basketball hall of fame and then get slaughtered by a high school team that could compete with many college teams. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I will cherish forever, but I think we could have shot 84% from the field and still lost!

I would have to add Dayton's old gym. It had all of the things that make for a bad gym to play in. A stage on one end line, almost no seating and what seating they had was in band box design right up to the sidelines and I believe they also had the double over and back lines.

 

 

And that awful bright green everywhere. Varisty players had a headache before the JV game was over from just sitting in there.

Also, the old Richmond Madison gym in Richmond. It was painted bright purple and smelled like pickles. It was also very loud.

Anybody remember the old Bellevue Ben Flora Gymnasium with the Rubber flooring?? If you dove for a loose ball you had some nasty cherries.....

I cant believe people are actually putting that the Augusta gym is one of the worst places to play. The balcony up top and the bleachers down low has put a lot of history in that tiny gym.

 

Someone said about it being small, well I know this is a KY site, but has anyone played in North Adams gym. The 3 point line runs into the out of bounds line. I had a teammate shoot a shot from the corner and he was out of bounds..

 

I also cant believe that no one has mentioned the old Fleming Co. middle school gym. Yeah thats right. THE SWIMMING POOL. You had to climb a ladder to get to your bench and climb back down to check in... IMAGINE THAT?

The "Pool" at Fleming, played there in the early 70's. Had to climb ladders to get in and out of the place and dress in a dungeon underneath. Pretty bad for the visitors.

Worst floor in the world. Plus it had dead spots that were like dribbling in a tar pit. Whoever sold schools (like NKU) on a rubber floor should have been salesman of the year.

I agree with everybody that said Augusta. I dreaded making the trip to play down there.

:thumb: Not only is it a little cracker box gym but IMO the flloor is dangerous and unacceptable for high school play especially and they should be made to find somewhere else to play or build a new one ASAP.

 

Is their gym even regulation size? It seems very small from 3 point line to half court... And don't try to save a ball in Heritages gym... You will either smack in to the score table, the benches, a wall or people in the stands...

LOL... I remember playing in the old SK gym once when play had to be stopped because one of the lights went out... :lol:

Never been to Whitesburg but I know Heritage would contest that... The term "playing on the hardwood" doesn't apply at Heritage... I don't even know what surface their floor is... Not wood of any kind I can tell ya...
