Worst High school gyms you ever played or watched a game in..????

Featured Replies

Evarts! I dont know that they still use it, but when I played there in high school 5 or 6 years ago, it was easily the worst gym I had ever played in.

I vaguely remember goint to a game at Phelps in the mid 70's; it was pretty tight. About 2 feet between the wall and the end line; you almost had to stand sideways to inbound a ball under the basket to keep your feet from crossing the line.

Augusta Gymn, Hey

does any one remember the Old Falmouth High School Gymn.

Yes, very small gym. No bleachers or anything. Just the side with the carpet steps, the side with the stage and the balcony to watch a game from. It is still used today for pickup games and some intramural games.

The old Simon Kenton and Dixie Heights gyms. The players had no benches so they had to sit up on the concrete steps with the fans. To get to the floor you literally had to climb down the stairs.

Dont forget the bats flying around and the crooked referees.....gym reminded me of Hoosiers....

I remember playing at SK in about 1979 and we had a bench.

I do remember sitting in the stands on the front row at Bracken County.

There were always seats for teams on the floor at the old SK gym, everyone sitting on the seats had their feet inbounds though. ;) It was always a adventure for the opposing team trying to inbound the ball from in front of those seats though!

What about Owsley County's elem gym. This gym was used for varsity games before the gym was built onto the High School. If you did a layup, you were going to meet the wall face to face. You actually could not even be behind the baseline to throw the ball in. The baseline was right next to the wall. I'm sure the guys who played on it could tell you war stories.

What about the swimming pool at the old Fleming Co. High School.

Iplayed my first basketball in that gym, with it's balconies, wooden backboards, and stage on the side! Sure wish I could go back there!!!!!!

I remember climbing the ladder to check into the game at Fleming County.

How bout those steps down into Cordia's gym? Your lucky not to have a player injured before you even get in the place!!
Hard to get there, hard to park.

Hard to play at Cordia, harder to win. The score keeper didn't start the clock towards the end of the game, giving Cordia a chance to score. When he was reminded He said he was talking to some one up behind him and just forgot. This is true

Redbird and Lynn Camp Gyms back in the 80's were just so small and cramped, these were very small schools with old gyms, no clue if they are still around or not, or made any improvements to them.

I was in the Red Bird's gym a few years back. They had some pews in there for the fans to sit on.

I played AAU in those gyms (late 90's early 00's) and we had no benches.

I played there in the late 80s and you had to maneuver around the band that was out on the floor on one end. Also the three point line seemed to be barely across half court.

This ranks as one of the all-time worst gyms that I have ever played at. If I remember correctly, you had to take the ball out of bounds with one foot out of bounds and one foot inbounds. Also, I think the 3-point line went out of bounds, which took away any 3-pointers from the sides. This was however, one of the best gyms in the world to run a 1-2-1-1 full court trapping press!
