Agreed, JK. As a freshman we were the last HS team to ever play in that gym. The JV and Varsity had been playing their home games at Thomas More College at that point. We went 7-1 at home that year and it must have been the home court advantage.

 

P.S. Since then the gym has been remodled some. New bleachers, new floor, new back boards. It is much easier on the eyes now than it was. But still the same old cracker box.

 

 

the visiting locker room was down in this dungeon... cold, nasty...water dripping from pipes... I don't even think they had glass backboards. That was back in the day when Brian Shea, Billy ARthur and those guys played...remember the short shorts.....

Wayland High! The gym King Kelly Coleman made famous 40 years ago or something! Its just used for pick-up games, and league games now though.

I hate any gym that doesn't have a hardwood floor. Almost all old gym's have concrete for a floor.

The old Jackson City Gym had only 3 rows of bleachers. There were holes cut out in the bleachers so you could in bound the ball from the side.

Redbird and Lynn Camp Gyms back in the 80's were just so small and cramped, these were very small schools with old gyms, no clue if they are still around or not, or made any improvements to them.

I played there in the late 80s and you had to maneuver around the band that was out on the floor on one end. Also the three point line seemed to be barely across half court. :laugh:

I would have to say Cordia and Feds Creek. At Cordia the floor broke out in a "sweat" and it was like playing ice hockey. At Feds Creek, not enough room to pass the ball over your head from out of bounds, and the balcony was a mess. But like one poster said, they don't make them like that anymore!!!!

:thumb: Not only is it a little cracker box gym but IMO the flloor is dangerous and unacceptable for high school play especially and they should be made to find somewhere else to play or build a new one ASAP.

Not enough parking. They can possibly handle 20 vehickles in the lot in front of the gym, other than that it is beside a narrow road in the ditch or walk up a steep graveled road from their new school. Great new school. Should have a new gym to go with it.

Portland Christian's gym is horrible. I haven't been there in a few years but I remember it was really dark in there, only had one side of old wooden bleachers and in one corner of the floor there was a huge dead spot and could tell when players would dribble. Someone said they fixed up recently but about 5 years ago it was the pitts.

Does anyone remember the old gyms that were small had three halfcourt lines?? I remember either the old school St Thomas or Bishop Brossart had a gym like that.

I too agree that Augusta is one of the worst. It has the five rows on the floor and the balcony setup, i believe two corners of the gym have about 3 feet between the wall and the 3 point line
