  1. Jim, Using that same analogy about the mountain regions, can you explain why it is that the power conferences just about always win the NCAA Championships, I mean they are all college kids aren't they?
  2. "NL's SOS was one of the top in the state, most knowledgable basketball fans place emphasis on this" Riot I just looked at NL's Schedule and your right about it being an extremely strong schedule, most of those losses were to one of the top 4 or 5 teams in different regions. The only bad part is that they have lost to clay twice, Corbin and South once within the last part of the schedule and those are the teams they are most likely face during regional time. But heres wishing them all the luck in the regional. scott
  3. Les, North Laurel 1756 1798 13 - 15 - 0 4 - 5 - 0 1 - 2 - 0 Lost 8 of the last 12 and you have them the 4th best team in the region, some teams I guess need not win, to stay up in your rankings. scott
  4. What I stated was that "Pineville is the weakest 20 win team in the 13th region" Lets see if this stands up. The 4 teams with 20 wins in the 13th are Barbourville,South,Clay, and Pineville. Rank them anyway you want. So how did Pineville do when they played any of these teams? They only played Barbourville 2 losses. They played Eastern out of the 7th region lost. They lost to Garrard county whos record was 5-19. How about other teams within the Region with winning records. Corbin 17-9 Lynn Camp 15-10 Jackson County 15-14 Berea 15-13 11th Region. Bullit East 14-13 6th Region That counts for 5 of the 22 wins this season the other 17 wins were against teams with losing records. Evarts x2 3-21 Red Bird x2 12-14 Williamsburg x2 2-18 Bethlehem 4-22 Whitley 6-21 Knox 6-20 Model 7-19 Oneida 10-16 Middlesboro 11-18 Cumberland 9-14 Harlan 13-13 3 wins vs teams from TN unsure on their records. So after all that I would have to say that Pineville was the weakest 20 win team in the region. No malice intended. scott lewis Bahrain
  5. Pineville is the weakest 20 win team in the 13th region, their schedule really set them up for failure in a post season where its win or go home. Most of the college coaches have figured out that the stronger a regular season you have, even with some losses will pay big dividends when it comes to the post season. Congrats to LC also. Scott Lewis Bahrain
  6. Forgive me If this thread has already been talked about, but I was just noticed that Bell County moved from the 51st District which they have won since as far back as 1999, didn't see any other records further back than that. But my question is what determined that they would move? Just wondering Scott Lewis Bahrain
  7. Not that any loss is good, but this one should definately get the focus of SL's team back where it needs to be. SL should win the 13th, but I don't necessarily think it will be as easy as some think it will be for them. That statement got me thinking about how a loss can help motivate a team come playoff time. Remember the 95-96 wildcats Going into the SEC tourney that year UK has lost 1 game all season and were just killing people on the court. But lost to Miss ST. and went on to win the NCAA Championship. So a loss at the right time can really motivate a team. scott
  8. As an after thought what does your Rankings look like? scott
  9. using the formula that les has this season I guess Pineville should be Number 2 team in the region. Accoring to the regional standings P-ville is number two and they only have lost to Barbourville twice and Clay once this season. Not to mention with the one remaining game they should be 22-5 by seasons end. Doesn't all that matters is win's and losses? Scott Bahrain
  10. What people also need to remember is that In 84 Lone Jack and Bell County intergrated. Before that year Bell Football wasn't very strong. We kept the Name and we took Lone Jacks colors. Since that merger Bell has dominated middlesboro in football. When was the last time P-ville and Bell played football? It use to be a good rivalary also but to be pretty one-sided. scott bahrain
  11. I remember my senior year at bell with him as coach the team we started out with was pretty darn good, by the end you could have taken the people who quit and beat the starting 5 easily. Too much division on the team. So sorry for being so hostile. scott
  12. UKBells problem is pretty much the same as mine, we have pineville at the bottom of the mountain and we beat them like a drum year in and year out in basketball, period and its not really open for any discussion. If you look at p-villes schedule its as soft as can be. Not to mention I went to school at bell when Coach strange was their and still have to many bad memorys of him on the sideline. Middlesboro well they are on the other side of the mountain. There are currently 4 other teams with worse records in the region. They have scored 1800 points but given up 1900, difficult to put together a season with no defense. Hopefully Bell can get a little love if they win 2 of their last 3 games. scott bahrain
  13. I reffed alot of games up in Zion Illinios while I was stationed up there and I toss a parent for the use of profanitys, everything else I would let roll off my back. I did have to stop one game in particular when the parent started heckling the kids on the other team. One comment in particular got under my skin he yelled Foul number 21 he cant shoot, put him at the line every time down the floor, when the other team started following his instructions I stopped the game informed the coaches he had to leave before the game would resume. I had one ref as a partner who got so fed up with the stuff he just left and never did ref for that league again. These were 5th and 6th graders playing keep in mind. scott lewis USNavy Bahrain
  14. Where is the 52nd district played at? Can Cumberland win this district? Not really, they already lost to cawood twice, split with middlesboro and once to bell, they can split with bell with a win. scott bahrain
  15. Kinda suprised that you dropped Bell county so far down in your list Les, I know they have 6 losses on the season, 2 of those from out of state opponents. They dropped your number 3 teams and have completely dominated your number 5 teams for the last 10 years, losing maybe one game over that time span to them. I guess we get to see how good they are when they play your number 2 and 1 teams in the last two games of the season. scott bahrain
  16. Thanks Professor. Being so far away it difficult to keep up with the districts, hooking up in the regionals would be pretty hard. scott lewis bahrain
  17. Not sure how much it has to do with it but Coach Strange use to be the coach at Bell County from at least 84 to 88. Never did much with the talent he had, i remember my senior year, half of the team that started that season didn't finish on the squad, you could take the walkoff's and beat the starting 5. It was a pretty poor season with pretty much most of the talent quitting. I checked Bluegrass preps archive files and heres the game between Bell County and Pineville going back to 97. Looks like the Cats were 17-0 during that time. They also didn't play any games the 2001-2002 season. Pineville was 0-14 in the region that year. Dec 12, '97 Pineville Bell County 79 - 61 (W) Feb 26, '98 Pineville Pineville 67 - 37 (W) st District Dec 11, '98 Pineville Pineville 62 - 39 (W) Jan 26, '99 Pineville Bell County 60 - 35 (W) Feb 23, '99 Pineville Red Bird 75 - 43 (W) 51st District Dec 21, '99 Pineville Bell County 95 - 52 (W) Jan 25, '00 Pineville Pineville 92 - 52 (W) Jan 13, '01 Pineville Bell County 100 - 31 (W) Jan 23, '01 Pineville Pineville 122 - 47 (W) Mar 2, '01 Pineville Middlesboro 95 - 51 (W) 51st District No games the 2001-2002 Season. Feb 11, '03 Pineville Pineville 74 - 50 (W) Feb 11, '03 Pineville Pineville 74 - 50 (W) Dec 18, '03 Pineville Pineville 91 - 32 (W) Feb 10, '04 Pineville Bell County 79 - 36 (W) Dec 9, '04 Pineville Bell County 73 - 59 (W) Mar 4, '05 Pineville Middlesboro 63 - 47 (W) 51st District It looks like Pineville has a good season going maybe they can hook up during the District's. Would be a good game. Scott Lewis Following the season from around the world in Bahrain.
  18. Redbird and Lynn Camp Gyms back in the 80's were just so small and cramped, these were very small schools with old gyms, no clue if they are still around or not, or made any improvements to them. scott
  19. 1988 Clay county came up to Log Mountain and just destroyed us. Richie Farmer and his little brother Russ along with a dominating center. When we tried to play a zone to keep the farmers from shooting 3's which they couldn't miss, they would just dump it down to the Center who would either dunk it or keep shooting and rebounding till he hit it. When we packed it in to keep him from killing us down low they would just kick it out to one of the 2 Farmers and they would drain it. After watching that game I thought good grief that was the most dominating performance from a school i've ever seen. They just beat you any way they wanted. Scott Lewis Bell County Class of 88
  20. Wildcat, You've got to be our most distant poster. God Bless! Thank you wildcat. It doesn't matter how far the Navy sends me from blue grass country, i'll always be a true blue fan, sorry to all you fans out there in the state of KY wearing RED. We forgive you and are still confident that you will turn from the darkside that is U of L and return to the collective. Thanks to all the posters on here, for allowing me a small touch of home. 21. Just got finished looking at Bowling Greens schedule and scores. All I can say is good grief its impressive. Some of those scores looks like they were playing with the pee wee league. They had 8 shut outs, with one of those coming in the playoffs. I noticed they have only given up 3 touchdowns since Sept. 16th. Looks like 6 touchdowns given up all season. And there offense doesn't look all that shabby either. 611 points overall. Total points allowed is 54 thats like a field goal a game. And 13 of those points was to ST Xavier. Im not sure where their offense ranks but looks to me like they have the #1 defense and probably the #2 offense in 3A. Very very impressive. scott USNavy Bahrain
  22. Playoffs 2001 Rock vs Bell 28-14 at Rockcastle Rock won regular season game. 2002 Rock vs Bell 31-14 at Rockcastle Rock won regular season game. 2003 Bells loses to Boyd First round Rock loses to Mason second round. Bell won regular season game. 2004 Rock loses to Ashland 2rd round, Bell loses to Highlands 4th Round. Bell won regular season game. 2005 Bell wins regular season game. Bell has a run of 3 in a roll during the regular season, but the last two times they hooked up in the playoffs it was Rock coming out on top. So you have Rock wanting to keep that playoff streak alive. And you have Bell wanting to make it 4 in a roll. Should be a great game. Does anyone record these games or air them? on TV? 24. Attached to each little bubble head was a tube and a silver canister with emergency air supply when the canister is activated. Not sure exactly how much air, but we had ours on for at least 15 minutes till they opened a hatch in the top of the aircraft and the smoke was sucked out. By then we were ready to land and the fire put out, so they worked pretty good, they just felt really weird. Scott lewis
  25. ah it did work, heres one of us on the airplane, cant believe someone actually thought to take a pic, but Im glad they did. We felt like a piece of popcorn in the mircowave, just look and you will see why. scott
