SMOKEANDMIRRORS Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 The criteria you use for BEST is up to you( team vs individual performance vs atmosphere vs other)
cshs81 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Conner-Boone games in the mid 70s. Conner-Holy Cross 9th region final 1993. CCH PRP Sweet 16 2004
Jim Schue Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 The first Clay-Ballard state tourney matchup was a thriller. Last year's show by PRP in the Sweet 16 -- three OT games, each one outstanding for their own reasons. Two years ago Pulaski Co. won at Somerset in a wild nailbiter, despite a Jimmy Chitwood-type performance by Somerset's Nathan Bray. He couldn't miss. And in girls' hoops, last year's triple OT win by Assumption at South Laurel bears mentioning. As far as individuals go, Daniel Dillon's amazing triple-double at Somerset in a North Laurel win was spectacular. If I remember correctly, it was 38 points, 17 assists, 14 rebounds (or it may be flip-flopped on the rebounds/assists). Included in the assists count were two standout plays: 1) Dillon, at roughly the opposite hash mark, throws a three-quarter court one-bounce pass that catches Shanade Allen on the run for a layup 2) Dillon, on the lower right block with his back to the basket, throws a no-look pass over his right shoulder -- just a flick of the wrist, really -- to catch Allen (again) cutting from the left wing for a bucket.
NKYBOY1487 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Last years PRP games were amazing. The first round game was a good one vs. Pendleton. I then can remeber walking out of Rupp after watching Spillman and PRP defeat Ballard in OT thinking...."THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE GREATEST GAME I HAVE EVER SEEN". Then the very next day I can remember leaving Rupp again after watching PRP fall to eventual state champ South Laruel in 2 or 3 OT's and thinking...."THAT GAME WAS BETTER THAN YESTERDAYS, AND HAD TO BE THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN".
CatFanatic Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 I don't remember them in great detail, but Walton and Simon had a few battles in '81. If memory serves me, the district game went 2OT.
catsin05 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Henry Clay-Carlisle County in the 1983 state tournament finals.
BigStud Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 The best game I was present at was the 91 9th region final HC vs Holmes.
NEERFAN Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Laurel/NHardin championship game in '82 and the Carlisle/HC '83 title game. The Holmes/HC game in '91 was very good.

thepeopleschamp Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Lexington Catholic vs. Maine Central Institue either in late '94 or '95. triple OT game won a three point shot by Derrick White I believe. This game featured David Graves, Shawn Fields, Sha'wun Parks, Derrick White and others for Catholic and MCI had like 5 D-1 players on their team. Like Lamont Barnes and maybe Isaiah Victor. The game was packed and MCI was #1 in the country for prep schools and Catholic supposedly had no chance. It was the most exciting game I had ever seen. It was in their Pepsi Classic Tournament, which was the precursor to the 5/3 tournament. Pitino was there too, I believe his son Michael was there at this time. Going to a public school in lexington, I'm not supposed to have any fondness for Catholic but this game and their tournaments that they put on are always top notch.
Hilltopper2005 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I thought Victor and Barnes played for UHA
strongopenyon Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Trinity-Mason Co. State Tourney 2004 Great game!
Deuce41 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 1986 or 87 Williamsburg 104 Corbin 103 In Triple overtime, the Jackets on their home floor upset the heavily favored Red Hounds. Rich Prewitt was the coach for Williamsburg, this was just before he moved to Knox Central, and Billy Hicks was the Coach at Corbin before he moved to Scott Co. Both Teams played with determination and refused to quit. It was a great display of both offense and defense. There were some out of this world individual plays within the frame work of what both teams were trying to do. Both teams ran up and down the floor and when the game was over both teams were entirely spent. It was a game I was sad to see end.
Qryche11 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Clay Co Vs Ballard in State Tourney game at Freedom Hall in Louisville. I think it was 1988. Farmer lit it up for 51 pts in a losing effort. I think Allen Houston for Ballard had over 30 pts and Mark Bell their sensational point guard lit it up as well. That was some game.
