I liked the game between Madison Central & Scott Co. in the state tourney. I cant remember the year but it broke the sweet sixteen attendence record. Never seen that kind of crowd for a high school basketball game.

1999 Quarterfinals

IMO last years game between South Laurel & PRP in the state semi's was a good game. Also the game between Mason Co. & Trinity in '04 State Tourney was a good one!

 

These two are the best high school games I have seen... You couldn't help but feel sorry for Spillman after his performance for PRP in that game when he was just layin' there on the floor after the buzzer sounded...

 

No lie here on the Mason game... I was there with my buddy and he looked at me with about 30 seconds left when Mason was down 6 and said "Lofton is going to hit two threes and they are going to overtime... Being the more logical of the two of us I look at him defiantly and said "No, their not"... He still brags about that one to this day...

Lofton not only was a great player but he was also Mr. Clutch several times for Mason Co. If there was a game winning or tieing shot needed he was going to take it and he knocked just about all of them down that I can remember. The sad thing was everytime a big shot was needed the other team knew he was getting the ball and still could'nt stop him, thats what impressed me most about him.

1988 Clay county came up to Log Mountain and just destroyed us. Richie Farmer and his little brother Russ along with a dominating center. When we tried to play a zone to keep the farmers from shooting 3's which they couldn't miss, they would just dump it down to the Center who would either dunk it or keep shooting and rebounding till he hit it. When we packed it in to keep him from killing us down low they would just kick it out to one of the 2 Farmers and they would drain it.

 

After watching that game I thought good grief that was the most dominating performance from a school i've ever seen. They just beat you any way they wanted.

In the latter game, Warren Cunningham had just hit another 3 that would have sent the game into another OT, but while Allen Co. celebrates J.R. VanHoose takes the ball out of bounds and throws a TD-strike to fellow sophomore Todd Tackett who lays in the game-winning two.

 

The PRP/M.C. Napier game was just up-tempo basketball at its finest.

I am very fond of the 98 semifinal between Scott County and Lex Cath, Rick Jones had a great tourney and actually hit the game winner a deep three for this game. I lived in Lexington at the time and you could actually feel the life of the lex cath and Danny Haney sucked out of Rupp, it was awesome

Its hard to choose the best games that the Sweet 16 has produced cause there are so many classics. Two games that I witnessed outside the sweet 16 was the 1988 smifinal game of LIT at Broadbent Arena between Ballard and Clay Co. Richie Farmer and Allan Houston went back forth the whole game. Clay Co. finally pulled it out in double ot. Ballard would later get revenge beating them in the State finals. The other game was At the Louisville Gardens in 1996 when Fairdale upset OAK Hill led by current Pacer player Stephen Jackson 52-49. Oak Hill had just blown out PRP by 40 the night before and everyone thought they would do the same to Fairdale. Fairdale pulled off a major upset. Not very many teams from KY other than Fairdale have beaten Oak Hill.

They did. Harold Swanagan was on that team as well

 

Plus Maurio Buckner and Michael Forrest who played D-1 ball at Eastern Illinois.

The 2004 District Tournament at Fleming County Deming upsets Augusta a team that beat the Black Devils twice during the season. Before the game I was on my way to Flemingsburg, came upon a car that spunout or hydroplaned on US 62 in Robertson County, it had been raining that day, to my surprise it was then Deming forward Brandon Workman, I stopped to see if the young man was alright he said he was a little shook up, and I told him use that adreline he was feeling for the game and well it worked, thankfully he was alright.

Ludlow vs. Holy Cross last year in the All A Classic at St Henry... That was a great all around game.

What about Richie Farmer of clay county putting up 50 points against allen Houstons team in the finals of the state tournament for a win for clay county and a mountain team.

Bishop Brossart 43 at Top 10 Pendleton County 45

I will never forget this one:

 

The gym was completely packed with fans and neither team took the lead by more than 5-6 the whole game. Bishop Brossart had it in there hands at the end, but lost on a Jon Elrod baseline jumper as the buzzer went off. The PC student section and other fans stormed the court. A great HS basketball game.
