Estill with Berryman and Christopher back will seriously contend for 56th District.It is a BIG mistake to overlook these guys. Estill soundly defeated Powell in semifinals last year, and took Lee to the limit at Lee County. Beware the Engineers.

The last time I saw Powell play was at the 56th District Tournament, and it was not pretty. I know there is a new coach and all, but.....

I hope that's not true. I have watched him since he was a freshman, and have really admired his ability, even when he was putting it to Lee. If anyone from Owen County is reading, this kid is GOOD, and needs to be encouraged.

I saw Matt Eversole's Mommy a few minutes ago she didn't mention it. I hope not. Matt perkins probably number one pitcher for Lee next year. Matt Eversole may be number one player in region.

Professor posted on another thread he transferred to Owen County. I gotta believe it if Professor said it, especially if it concerns Owsley basketball.

It appears that Jason Jewell is the new Lee County head coach. Jason played for Gene Combs and is familiar with the system. He teaches Industrial Arts at Lee, and also coaches the golf team. He is an Iraqi War veteran, a quality young man, and will be an excellent role model. Good decision by Lee County administration.:thumb:

This is real blow to Owls. I had heard some talk this might happen week or so ago, but was just rumor at that time. Last year was rocky one for Daniel, sounds to me like he just really never got over it. Too bad, I sincerely believed he would be one of top players in 14th.

Lee plays Clark County year in and year out, and plays them competitively. I would wager that the folks at Clark County, at least, will agree that this is a quality move for Montgomery County.

Lee County won the 14th Region twice since 2000, has made the final eight in the state once. Lee has also won the last two 14th Region All "A" tournaments, played in the final eight this year at Applebee's Park, and has been consistently one of the best teams in Eastern Kentucky. Numbers have been a problem for Lee, a small enrollment always makes pitching a problem. Coach Combs is an excellent coach, anyone familiar with his program at Lee County will tell you he is one of the best in the area. A bigger school like Montgomery County will prosper with him in charge, I will guarantee it.

Gene Combs has resigned at Lee County and is now the head coach at Montgomery County. You can look for Montgomery County to be a real power in 10th region as Coach Combs is one of the best in Eastern Ky. Big loss for Lee.

I''m a Lee County fan,and I think putting Daniel as the sixth man in the region is underrating him.

Powell is a very solid team, and can be very competetive, but South Laurel may be too much. That being said, I am pulling for 56th District team all the way, and will gladly admit being wrong!

Statman, if it makes you feel better, I thought what you did. (I had no idea my simple question would result in two pages of replies). I don't umpire, but love baseball, and I am not completely ignorant of the rules, but if this ever comes up again, I will surely know te proper call!

I wasn't sure what the rule was, and never questioned the call, except to simply ask what the rule was. I asked courteously, between innings, and was answered courteously. Even though I admit I was not convinced, it was not mentioned again during the game. I don't believe I did anything wrong by asking about the rule. It is now obvious that I was wrong about thinking run should not have counted, but how else would I have been informed correctly if I hadn't asked?

Even the question caused disagreement, and to be honest, Hilltopper and Mack the Knife are both right about questioning the umpire. I asked the question, much the same as I did here. The ump offered the explanation I heard here. I thought he was wrong, but it turns out I may be, so I am glad I let it drop, with both myself and the ump behaving reasonably and civilly to each other in front of the children. You don't learn if you don't ask, but on the other hand, if you question authority, (which is okay) do it in a respectful manner, if you wish to be treated respectfully.

Runners at first and third, one out. Fly ball caught by fielder. Runner at third tags up properly and scores. Runner at first does not and goes to second, and is doubled off at first, but runner crosses plate before play is made. Does run count? I say no, but umpire says yes. Happened at peewee game so no argument, (I refuse to act like a fool in front of kids). I just want to know who is right.

Congratulations to Pirates. I think Powell definitely is favorite at regional tournament, especially since it is held at Powell, and they seem to be playing at their best right now. Silver lining for Lee, don't have to play Powell or Leslie in first round.

A district winner gets to play Leslie in opener. Another winner will either get Lee or Powell (at home). Not much advantage to winning if you get either of these draws!

This is a big game not only for 56th district, but for 14th region, as one of the top contenders will be eliminated. What does eveyone think? I say Powell will come out on top in a close one, even though Engineers won last meeting. By the way, tonight was my first time at Estill's field, and it is excellent, just another reason they are a great addition to 14th region.

Owsley hung tough, but Lee advances to district final and regional tounament. Big game tomorrow, Powell vs. Estill.
