Powell Co vs South Laurel (Semi-state #7)

Featured Replies

Who does Powell play in sectionals? Whoever it is they will have their hands full with a scrappy bunch of boys from Powell. Should be fun.

I believe they play South Laurel at Perry Central next week.

Thanks. Well good luck to both teams, both are pretty solid. I might have to make the trip to see a game or two.

Let's go ahead and get it started folks. How will this series shake out?

I think South Laurel will sweep the series in two games. Powell Co. is scrappy but i think So. Laurel has the better squad. Good luck to both!

What kind of pitching does Powell have? I guess the big question is, do they go three deep?

South will probably throw Smith. All I know about him is what I've read in the papers, and on here. How good is he? Powell has some good men with the stick.

He's been pretty much lights out the last month. Unless Powell is a fantastic hitting team, they'll struggle against him. He didn't allow an earned run in a complete-game effort against LexCath, and had a perfecto going through six against Clay Co., another pretty good hitting team.

Plus, SL has Philpot (8-0) and Josh Riley, who has been outstanding. They also have freshman Matthew Martin, who has shown flashes of brilliance.

They are a very talented team...and come out of a loaded Region, many teams from the 14th could compete with So. Laurel such as, Leslie, Lee, or Perry... I think it will be a good series, I'm goin to take Powell...

Post #3 - Don't think its fair to say that they're just happy to be there...Powell has been to region many years in a row and we're runners-up last year, they are also coming off a huge win in the 7th inning with 2 outs, they are a very good hitting team and south laurel should be prepared...they are'nt a pushover team

I'll go with South Laurel too. I think Powell is just happy to be there.

Powell is happy to be there but they are definitely not satisfied with just winning the 14th region, they feel like they have a great chance to be the first 14th region team to play at Applebees Park in the state baseball tournament. And to answer Jim Schue's question about there pitching, yes they do go three deep. There 1 man stands above the others a little bit but the 2 man and 3 man are two great pitchers who on any day can throw a great game. The 2 man started the regional championship and was getting roughed up a bit against Leslie and the 3 came in to hold them to 1 run in i think 4 or 5 innings, so yes they have pitching. :thumb:

Good. I love watching good pitching. :thumb:

I'm going to agree with bballer1 and JF04 on this one, and take powell to win the series because by the looks of it i think that powell has came together as a team at the end of the season, and i dont think they want their season to end any time soon....:ylsuper:

Powell is a very solid team, and can be very competetive, but South Laurel may be too much. That being said, I am pulling for 56th District team all the way, and will gladly admit being wrong!

Will be some good baseball and it will be 3 games. If you are from the 14th you gotta love the Pirates.
