South Laurel will sweep it in 2 games, they are a much better team than Powell.

Got to stay with the 14th and Powell. South Laurel may win but they will have a fight on their hands. Powell in the last month showed everyone that they do not quit.

I have to agree...powell has shown that they are a tough team to put away. They are a young and talented team that play with alot of confidence.

Powell is a very solid team, and can be very competetive, but South Laurel may be too much. That being said, I am pulling for 56th District team all the way, and will gladly admit being wrong!

I agree with this post. I'm rooting for Powell all the way....they're from my district.

That said, I have a feeling South will be a tough task, but here's wishing the Pirates the best of luck.:thumb:

I'm with you two on this one. Powell County has had a great season, but unfortunately the will be facing a very tough opponent is South Laurel. I just don't think Powell County has the talent to match up with South Laurel. But as Bad Cat stated..I will be fine with being wrong in this one!

If I were to place a bet on this one, I'd pick South Laurel in 2 games. However, I always like to see the underdogs come through and make a push. I think Powell will be scrappy and SL will have their hands full, but in the end, I believe South Laurel has a better all around team and will take the series.

What about the Powell defense? South's playing essentially error-free for the past few weeks. Do they throw the ball around the field a bit?

South Laurel in 3.

Powell in 3...who else can pitch for SL besides Smith, he's the ace right...with a good hitting team like Powell, SL better be 3-4 deep, i have to give Powell the slight advantage of playing at an in region school as well, that gives Powell fans from any of the schools in the 14th...

To quote JimSchue from an earlier post:

He's (Smith) been pretty much lights out the last month. Unless Powell is a fantastic hitting team, they'll struggle against him. He didn't allow an earned run in a complete-game effort against LexCath, and had a perfecto going through six against Clay Co., another pretty good hitting team.

Plus, SL has Philpot (8-0) and Josh Riley, who have been outstanding. They also have freshman Matthew Martin, who has shown flashes of brilliance.

Powell better be 3-4 deep as well. BOTH teams have to have good pitching, not just South Laurel.

RUNS PER GAME

SL 6.6

PC 6.6

OPP RUNS PER GAME

SL 3.7

PC 4.5

This should be a good series. SL in 3 primarily the way they have been playing down the stretch when it mattered the most.

Powell only made 1 error in the tourny. They are always solid on defense and have been hot of late hitting the ball, so it should make for a good 3 games.

Powell's defense should not be a problem. However, their bats NEED to stay hot in order to take the series from South Laurel. I think both teams pitching is evenly matched but the edge goes to South Laurel in the offensive department.
