I look for it to be a good series where if one or the other team messes up it will cost them a bid to Applebee's. I just think with the amount of fans Powell will probably have up there and how hot their bats have been along with the good defense they have been playing that they will pull this one out in 3 or maybe 2 if South Laural doesnt come out focused.

Well said, I think the Pirates will not be happy with just a 14th region championship.

Who pitched for South Laural when they beat Lex. Cath. and who was pitching for Catholic does anyone know?

Trey Smith pitched for SL in that game. He was on top of his game that day and has been sensational of late.

Neutral field and both very good teams. I would expect low scoring games, with pitching/defense being the deciding factor for either team.

I would like to see Powell Co. win, but I'll go with South Laurel in 3.

I just remembered this about these kids from South Laurel. This core group of juniors and seniors are the very same kids who not only won the state a few years ago in little league or junior league play (I cannot remember which), but were 1 bad inning from the world series! Then they turned around and won the U-trips state title but declined to attend the nationals as many were committed to playing football that fall. This is a group of players who understand the game and are very solid. They didn't beat Lex Cath by accident and are playing very well right now.

They won the Junior League division(13-14 yr old) state title and I believe they also won the 9-10 year old division before that. The freshman group that includes Rakestraw, Martin, Woody, etc. also made it to the LL State tournament about 3 years ago.

I couldn't remember if it was the JR League, but you are correct! Your memory is better than mine!
