I saw the Dunbar-MBA game and also saw LexCath scrimmage PRP. PRP has a better passing attack, but I can't see them pounding it up the middle successfuly against the excellent PLD D-line. I also can't see PLD scoring more then a couple Tds against PRP. It should be a competitive game and close enough to give the home team the edge.

I've already made a couple comments in the first page of this thread. I felt fairly good about the offensive production against the best defense we will see all year. I was surprised at how poorly our defense tackled. Vic is a great runner who uses his blockers well but there were several times that he just shook off tacklers when I thought he would be brought down. Of course, worse than this were the times when no one seemed to touch him all the way to the endzone. Did he score a Td every time he touched the ball? It seemed like it to me. The defensive let down surprised me because our head coach was last year's defensive coordinator, and that defense improved every game. Maybe we'll have a repeat. We have a couple weeks to regroup before our next game against Scott County and I expect we will be significantly better than.

I keep remembering how bad I felt after two years ago and this wasn't nearly as bad considering we were playing our first game under a new head coach, new offensive coordinator and a quarterback who only threw twelve passes in his career to date. In 2004 we had an all state quarterback and couldn't do better. I think this will prove to be the best team X has had in recent years if Vic can stay healthy. LexCath will be all right but they need to tighten their chinstraps and get down to business the next two weeks. Thanks for the wakeup.

St. X looked a lot better to me than two years ago. Vic was great then and even better now. The receivers are much quicker. They have at least two very good quarterbacks. As for the Knights, Hancock probably had good stats but this is misleading because many of his completions were the result of LexCath receivers out-jumping the defenders for the ball. Nevertheless, this was a tough start for his career and Hancock didn't hurt the team. The defense was awful. Vic and the X receivers seemed to break around the outside on every touchdown. Priority One: don't give the opposing offense the outside lane. The DEs and corners need to force the action to the middle. This is the first year since I've followed Catholic that they didn't have an adequate kicker. Maybe it was first game jitters. Thank you X for not running up the score, I know you could have won by seventy if you wanted to, maybe more. Bright spot: we'll not see anything like X the rest of the season, however a lot of work needs to be done on tackling and scoring when we enter the Red Zone. Final thought, I don't think we are as bad as we looked tonight. That said, we need to really focus on Scott County in two weeks and use the feelings we have tonight as impetus for preparing for the next game.

Who you kidding? You'll pull for X because you want them to be undefeated when you play them and you also want to maintain the Louisville superiority over Lexington teams. It will be tough though, rooting for a team with those big X's on their helmet. Enjoy the cognitive dissonance!

Does the St. X kicker have the leg to put it in the endzone everytime? If he does, it will cause LexCath's offense to start in a hole each time like two years ago. If not, I like our chances much better.

The weather played a big factor the last time LexCath came to Manual stadium in my opinion. X had greater depth and size and wasn't affected by the heat as much. I fear a repeat if it's as hot this time. If today's temp holds the rest of the week, I think the Knights can keep it close.

Maybe with LexCath now only having four district opponents instead of seven, they can really start a rivalry with CovCath and Highlands. That would make the change to six classes more palatable.

The tuition for Catholic when my daughter went (graduated 2002) was a little over 6K per year for non-parishioners with a 2k break for parishioners. There also is financial aid based on need for those unable to afford tuition but the minimum paid then was about 2K and there was a strong expectation that all parents be involved in fund raising. LCA was about the same I think then although I'm not sure if they gave any tuition breaks to members of their church. LCA is already competitive in several sports and could conceivably become so and was last year in football, especially if they increase their size.

I plan to watch this game if I can remember when it comes on. Maybe you could restart the thread that week? Does your son start and do you think he'll play?

Clays Mill Elementary and Mary Queen across the street have sizeable parking lots. Overflow is usually on streets in the neighborhood. Parking is fairly good compared to a lot of places I've been.

I don't think Trinity ever likes to be out scored even in a scrimmage. But LexCath will probably work on their run game more than they would in a real game to give their Oline more practice in run blocking against a team that is larger than they will see in all but two games during the season. That's what they did against PRP last week at least.

That's good news. UPN is channel 5 on Insight Cable in Lexington. They also broadcast over the air but I'm not sure of the channel (62?). Not sure if their signal would reach Mercer County.

They haven't been televised as a rule. Last year was a first I think, for the Bluegrass Bowl. The local stations usually look for the best matchups in the area. I'm betting they televise the Dunbar- MBA game myself, but this is just a guess. Usually there are ads announcing the games by now so maybe they aren't having one this week?

The scrimmage was split into several parts. I think for the first part each team ran several plays (10?) in a row without any down markers. PRP scored one Td on a nice pass from 15 to 44. LexCath didn't score. The second part was more like a regular quarter and each team scored a TD. The third was played by JVs mostly and Catholic scores a field goal when I left. PRP looked very good early and seemed to be more crisp and excited. LexCath started slow but seemed to gain momentum as the scrimmage went on. They at first mostly ran the ball somewhat effectively but didn't score. Catholic really became more effective in the second part of the scrimmage when they played their usual offense with lots of shotgun and draws. Tyler Hancock is no Justin Burke but he seemed very effective once he got his rythym. PRP had several studs, the quarterback, 40, and especially 44. PRP scored more but this scrimmage was pretty even.

LCA had some sharp looking silver and blue unis last year. I also like Trinity's.

New head coach, new offensive coordinator, new quarterback, not a good way to try and defend the championship. On the otherhand, there are several hjighly skilled players returning, Caldwell, Guy, Israel, Revere, Lockname to name a few. The defense looks like it will be improved so the offense maybe won't have to carry as much of the load early. I see a loss against X, a tossup against Scott County, and hopefully we can win the rest.

I only saw what was supposed to be BG's worst game last year, so I can't really see BG competing with X this year. X will control the ball with Vic and the team as a whole will be more focused. The 3td prediction sounds about right to me.

Besides LexCath, I also root for LCA. Away from Lexington, I root for Highlands, Morgan County, and Boyle County. I generally will root for any Lexington school when they play a Louisville school that isn't Catholic.

How about the end around draw?

Scheduling the likes of MBA should help Dunbar prepare for the Louisville trio. Maybe this will be the year when Lexington 4A reaches it's potential... Naaah.
