Should be a good rivalry this year...as Mayfield also expects to return to their accustomed place in the final four this year as well. Crittenden has a lot returning...and Mayfield's skill positions could be the best in the area with the returning Tyrese Murrell at running back to go along with returning receivers Xavier Shelton and Javarius Richardson with QB Luke Guhy returning for his junior year. So should be (hopefully) two great games this year between the Rockets and Cards!!!

Lance Gregory who previously was the Defensive Coordinator at John Hardin High School. Gregory was officially announced as the new Head Coach this morning at the Graves County Board of Education office. Gregory says he will keep the wing-t offense implemented by former Coach Mike Rodgers, and that he is familiar with the wing-t as John Hardin has run it successfully up in the central part of the state. Good luck to Coach Gregory in 2009 (with the exception of the annual rivalry game with Mayfield...lol)

This year's Mayfield team will blend some older veterans such as Tyrese Murrell, Xavier Shelton, and Luke Guhy along with some very talented newcomers coming into the mix this year. If some of the newcomers can fill some holes then this years Mayfield team could be a challenger to get back to the Final Four. Mayfield will once again this year be challenged by a very good Crittenden County team for the district and regional title with the winner a chance to face off with Beechwood for a chance to go to Bowling Green. Hopefully this year's team will have a little better chemistry and keep the on-field and off-field problems away in 2009. GO CARDS!!!

He was an assistant at Nelson County before coming to Graves County.

Unless they bring in someone else to run the offense...I would say that Warren Central fans can get used to seeing the wing-T offense...or a similarity to it. Coach Rogers brought it to Graves and used it in his five years at the helm of the Eagles...so would be hard pressed to believe that he would change what he knows. That might change once he gets to know his new players...but even when he had a throwing QB he liked to run his offense out of the wing-T. Personally, I would like to wish Coach Rogers the best of luck to him and his family in his new task of leading the Warren Central Dragons. He was always very professional in my dealings with him during the football season. Good luck to him and the Dragons this season.

I think everyone involved would appreciate it if they would make a decision because this will creat a ripple effect if the person that is chosen for this job is already a head coach at another school.

Any new updates on this coaching vacancy. Have heard several rumors locally here in far western Kentucky but nothing concrete.

FINALLY...some good news for the familes as the boys' bodies were found late Tuesday afternoon in the same area where the body of Trevor Williams was found. The bodies were found in 53-feet of water. Thankfully the families of the two teenage boys can now get on with the funeral arrangements and let the grieving process begin. Keep these families in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you to all the well wishes for all of us here in the Mayfield and Graves County communities.

All of us here in Mayfield and associated with the program are very much appreciative of all the well wishes from everyone here on BGP. The weather is a real problem this week in the recovery of the bodies as with the bitterly cold conditions and the high winds it has made it very hard getting boats out on the water. Hopefully today divers will be able to get out and take a look at some of the hits the sonar boat found yesterday. What has also made recovery harder is that there is a lot of tree stumps and debris still in the water from a Tornado that hit the area a couple of years ago giving false "blips" on the GPS and sonar boats systems. The community here has been great with food and monetary donations for the workers and families. And the students have really pulled together for each other this week during this tragedy. Funeral Services for Trevor Williams, who was the starting center for the Mayfield Football team the last two years, will be Sunday afternoon at Mayfield High School with his visitation Saturday afternoon and evening also at the High School. Please keep his family in your prayers this weekend...and extra prayers that the bodies of fellow Mayfield senior and football player Mackenzie Stanley, and Graves County senior Jacob Scott's bodies will be found soon so that the families can have some type of closure in this terrible tragedy. Congrats to the boys from Mayfield who voted to play the game Tuesday night in honor and memory of their fallen classmates from this past weekends boating tragedy. The Cards trailed most of the ballgame and even were behind by 9 points on Carlisle's home court before making the comeback tying the game at 51 at the end of regulation and won it in overtime. Coming into the game Carlisle County was in the top 10 in the state in scoring at over 80 points per game and had one of the top scorers in the state in Caleb Hardy who was held to just 10 points. The Cardinals played inspiring basketball and played with extreme heart Tuesday night and you could tell that they were willing themselves through the emotional and physical drain that they have gone through this week in pulling out the victory. In the big picture of things going on this week here in Mayfield a basketball game doesn't seem that important anymore...but the win Tuesday night hopefully will begin the small step of healing the school and community as we continue going through this trying time as two boys bodies are still missing and the funeral services for another one is pending. I have had the priviledge of announcing many a Mayfield football and basketball game over the past 5 years, and I have never been prouder of a group of young men as I was last night watching them pull together as one for the hard fought win over a very good Carlisle County squard.

A search crew from Texas who has searched for Caylee Anthony and Natalie Holloway has been called in by the family of one of the missing boys to help with the search. They arrived late Tuesday afternoon and will now be assisting in the search for the bodies of the two missing teenage boys. Also the Coast Guard arrived Tuesday to help in the search and security as with high winds and dangerously cold temps in the forecast the next couple of days. Everyone on here has been great with the outpouring of support and all of us here in the Mayfield community appreciates all the well wishes...please keep the families of everyone involved in your prayers and if you attend Wednesday evening chuch services another prayer or two never hurts. Please keep your thoughts and prayers for the family of Trevor Williams whose body was found late Sunday evening. Also keep in your thoughts and prayers for the two other young men who are still missing as well as their families and pray that a miracle can occur, and that they will be found alive and well.

The search party was sent back out early this morning at 1st light and more horses have been brought in to search the banks of the river this morning in hopes of finding something to give some positive hope that the students are still alive. We had temps in the mid 20's overnight and a chance of snow and rain is in the forecast for tonight. All the kids involved in this are very good kids and let's just hope and pray that by them being athletes have given them a better chance of survival in this cold weather. Thank you all for the support for everyone here in the Mayfield and Graves County community.

Thanks for the heads up on the Cantrell Ratings...but I was actually wanting the LIT ratings as that is how the region down here seeds for the All "A" Classic. Once again thanks though for the Cantrell Ratings as will give a brief idea of what the LIT Ratings might look like

...anyone know when they are announced....as I have not been able to locate them. I saw the boys ratings last week, but not the girls. Thanks for any help!!!

Mayfield should be back as a major player in Class A next season as most of the offensive attack comes back led by QB Luke Guhy who threw for over 2,000 yards as a sophomore and will feature 1,000 yard runner Tyrese Murrell. Should have an outstanding receiving corps led by Xavier Shelton and Javarius Richardson along with some promising newcomers to the Cardinal Varsity squad next season. And the offensive and defensive sides on the line look to be very promising anchored by 6'4" 275 pound senior lineman Jantzen Jones. The next two years are years that the coaching staff has been pointing to getting the Cards back in serious title contention. Should be some great games with Crittenden County for the district title next season.
