Figured it deserved its own thread now that it's official. There's an article in the Paducah Sun about the hire, but that's a subscribers only website. When the Daily News gets a link up, I'll try to get it posted.

 

I know a few around here are worried about him bringing the Wing-T. It'll be interesting to see if he tries to implement that offense here. Other than that, I'm extremely satisfied with the hire. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Unless they bring in someone else to run the offense...I would say that Warren Central fans can get used to seeing the wing-T offense...or a similarity to it. Coach Rogers brought it to Graves and used it in his five years at the helm of the Eagles...so would be hard pressed to believe that he would change what he knows. That might change once he gets to know his new players...but even when he had a throwing QB he liked to run his offense out of the wing-T.

 

Personally, I would like to wish Coach Rogers the best of luck to him and his family in his new task of leading the Warren Central Dragons. He was always very professional in my dealings with him during the football season. Good luck to him and the Dragons this season.

Where else has he coached besides Graves county?

He was an assistant at Nelson County before coming to Graves County.

Nelson County's best years were with Coach Brown's Wing T. Can it still win today in the age of the spread? Look at the phenomenol success John Hardin High School has attained under Coach Brown's Wing T.

Ballard is returning to the wing-t and lost a couple of coaches over this move.

 

I know it was run very well by Clark County in 1991. It's a non-factor in later playoff rounds in today's game.

"non-factor"? whew, have to disagree with that statement. John Hardin has taken teams to the mat; including Coach Griff's Grape Defense. JHHS didn't win; so you win the bet (25 cents at most)...but definitely a factor, or turnover away from Papa Johns'.

When Rogers took the job at Graves County, he inherited a quarterback that could throw the ball well, and he incorporated that into the Wing-T rather successfully. He has shown the ability to adapt the play-calling to his talent, and that is part of what makes him a pretty good coach.

John Hardin is a good team no matter the offense, but they have great speed, imagine puting those players in more space (like the spread) and see what would happen. We can not say they would be more or less productive, because we will never know. The wing-T was a great offense but now it is just a good offense, but more teams are learning to stop it. The spread is big now, but look at the past some one will figure out the spread and people will start stopping it at a better rate. If you can play man to man with no safety and be able to cover recievers and bring extra guy in the box to stop the Qb from running, then the spread is stopped, but most teams do not have that kind of speed or talent.

I knew he wouldn't stay long at Graves, he did good things there no doubt, he is the only coach to date to get things going in a coordinated fashion at the younger levels. It should be an easier task to play for a championship in 5A as well.

It will be no easier for the Warren Central to win 5A than it is for Graves to win 6A. The 20 year track record of Warren Central against traditional 5A (old 3A) schools in the playoffs is miserable.
