It will be no easier for the Warren Central to win 5A than it is for Graves to win 6A. The 20 year track record of Warren Central against traditional 5A (old 3A) schools in the playoffs is miserable.

It isn't easy to win in 5A, but Warren Central has a better shot there than Graves County does in 6A, especially if they can get by Bowling Green.

5A is a different set of obstacles. Warren Central would probably have a better shot of getting out of the region in 6A, but the semifinals would always be nigh-impossible if they're running into St. X. In 5A, the bigger challenge is getting out of the region, but they'd have a good shot at getting to the finals if they could.

 

Warren Central vs. Current Region 1 Teams in the Playoffs (since 1991, which is Central's first year in 3A):

Barren County: 1-0

Bowling Green: 1-3

Christian County: 2-0

Hopkinsville: 1-2

Ohio County: 2-0

Owensboro: 0-2

 

Central has had a lot of trouble with Bowling Green and Hoptown especially, and I say those two because they beat Central in years they were good. Owensboro's two matchups with Central were in years they were a combined 8-15.

 

A lot is made of Central's inability to win a playoff game in 3A, and it's fair, but the #1 team that stood in their way is out of the picture. They lost to Paducah 4 times from 1992-1997.

 

The ultimate reality is that the team Central has to solve is Bowling Green. In one of Central's worst years in the history of the program, they lost games against Hopkinsville and Owensboro by a combined 10 points, and the Owensboro loss was as Rash. It's Bowling Green that Central has never been able to solve, especially in the playoffs.

So you don't think it would be easier to win a championship in your class when you don't have to go up against Trinity or St. X? Either way, its a step up for coach Rodgers, I wish him the best of luck.

In 5 years at Graves, he built a nice youth program, built a new stadium for them, and had some solid teams. He is a program-builder which is what WC seems to need. There were some flashes of talent at WC last year, maybe he can mold it.

Uh, that's some impressive fundraising then..normally, school districts build stadiums, not coaches...but if he did, more power to him...Central needs a new one too.

If that's the case, he most certainly needs to take a look at them.

 

There's nothing that can lead kids astray quicker than a youth league that has no ties to scholastic programs in the area. You get runaway coaches more worried about double reverses and defensive schemes than teaching the basics.

My favorite team runs the spread but to say wing-t is no longer a viable system is tough to do. Wing-t teams are very succesful in other states right now. The team in Washington that broke DeLasalle's streak runs wing-t. Playoff success would come for a wing-t team who did not believe the pass was evil.

Rodgers success at was Graves was in part due to the foundation he laid in the youth league, he was able to instill some of the same plays and drills that they use in the high school level, its the same at Mayfield. Do these kids go to multiple high schools? I could understand that if that is the case. But I as a high school coach would want to implement a system down in my middle schools for sure, but that may just not be viable in Warren County?
