As someone that calls the ballgames here in western Kentucky I have had the chance on several occasions to speak with Coach Gillespie and even though all that he has been through still took the time out to speak with me and all other media on basketball or the condition of Gunner. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Gillespie, his wife Janna and their daughter Garlynn during this difficult time, but they know that Gunner is at peace now and feels no pain in heaven. They have showed so much courage and been such an inspiration to everyone here in western Kentucky. God Bless the Gillespie family and all the Marshall County extended family. And in the immortal words of Gunner Gillespie: "I think I can, I think I can"

I'm curious...how do you qualify this as not a quality win...1st team offense scores every time they touch the ball...1st team defense holds Fulton County to minus yardages while they were in there. Fulton County got their whole 49 yards of total offense against JV squad. The only thing to gripe about the game on Friday were the unsportsmanlike penalties...one of which should not have been called. Granted Fulton County not a top notch program, but this Mayfield team is improving week-by-week and this week's game should tell us how much they have improved when they travel over to Calloway County.

You're right it could have gotten real ugly...but Mayfield never wants to intentionally run up the score against an opponent. Mayfield lead 42-0 at half and the 1st string offense and defense played the first series of the 2nd half and then gave way to the JV offense and defense the rest of the way. Good job by the Cards in doing what they needed to do...get on the board early and often and then getting some reserves alot of playing time in the 2nd half.

The district championship is even more precious this year with the playoffs going back to the cross bracketing format like it was a few years ago. So say Mayfield is the #2 seed...then assuming they get past their first round game, they would probably have to make a long trip to Louisville to play Holy Cross for a second round game before even thinking about the Regional Championship game. It could turn out that the Regional Game could be closer than the 2nd round game. So the district #1 seed is huge this year as it would guarantee two home playoff games at home based on if you keep winning.

Congrats to Coach Fowler and the Rebels for picking up their second win of the season.

Sounds like another good win for the Rockets...I was wondering if they would be flat after last weeks emotional first win over Mayfield, but it looks like Coach Starnes had his kids ready to play.

Cards played much better tonight than they have the past few weeks. We played more consistently and with more focus tongiht. Another thing is that the younger kids grew up alot in the first half. Luke Guhy the QB was 12/15 197yds and 3td's in the first half alone. He started to step up in the pocket and moved his feet instead of just tucking and running. He also did a great job of looking to his secondary receivers instead of just his primary target. This kid will be a great QB by the time he gets out of here. Good win for the Cards...now they have to set their sights on Fulton County next week for a district win.
