I agree with the 1st game jitters. 1st time on the big stage in 34 years, plus playing a top 5 in the state defensive team, adds up to a low scoring game. When was the last 16th region team to make it past the 1st round? 2nd round?

I know this is a rose hill vs rowan co. prediction post, but I can't help but be a little ashamed of some of the things said by our coach after the game. And I quote from The Independent- Tuesday 3/14 = "Kidwell, meanwhile, was unhappy that Russell was called for nine more fouls than Rose Hill. I don't understand with Rose Hill pressing most of the game that the fouls were as lopsided as they were. Kidwell said, "Queen did a good job of not getting her fourth foul(until midway through the fourth quarter). I thought she committed it about six times. I wouldn't trade my team, Kidwell said. Our three seniors won 69 games while they were here. A lot of people thought when a couple of player left our team (last season) that the program would die. It didn't" Yes coach you are right about the 9 more fouls, but most of those at least 5 or 6 were in the last 4 or 5 minutes of the 4 quarter when we were trying to catch up. Meanwhile in the same paper, the following was quoted by Von Perry at West Carter. "We just never got into the flow of the game, said Von Perry. They were like a bunch of might mites" This coming from a coach whose team was up 5 with 5 1/2 minutes to go and Whose team was whistled for 10 more fouls than Rowan. To me those 2 quotes say volumes about true sportmanship. I hope Coach Kidwell can take a page from Coach Perry. Congrats Russell Red Devils on a great season. Good luck Lady Royals. If I'm not mistaken, I think 1 if not 2 of those championship game officials was rated high enough by the KHSAA to be invited to officiate at Rupp next week. I know Bobby Hall was, and I think Billman was as well, but not for sure.

Let's hope they don't get too inspired, or they'll find themselves in either foul trouble and on the bench or shooting 3-16 from the field because of eagerness. For the royals fans, let's help they got all of that incentive out during the regular season game.

How about a recent any true Russell fans remember this game in the year 2002 when Brethitt County beat Russell in the semifinals.

Congrats to Rose Hill on a fine season. Coach Fraley has the program definetly on the rise. If this group remains intact, look for even better things to come. It is going to be a fun 16th region tournament.

A couple things i missed that my son told me Russell is also getting a new practice field beside the new Tennis Courts and yes i agree they do need a new field house the old one smells like crap I mean you expect that from a locker room but the lockers are pretty shabby and there just need to be more room. Although i heard there has been talk about.

I dont know where you heard that my son lifts everyday and no Tyler Jones might be around 255 tops but yea i dont even think he is the highest bench presser out there

As far as the Euton's going to N. Carolina, I know that Clay has worked the past few years over the summer at Duke University's camp. I hope the whole gang hangs around for the next 4 years. I agree that just because you are from a small school doesn't mean you can't get exposure from D1 coaches. Especially in basketball. It seems like in football we are not getting too many D1 players from this region, but basketball players from this region do get some looks.

Russell High School is renaming their field after it's legendary coach Ivan McGlone. They also just got approval to construct a "wall of fame" using laser engraved bricks bought by past and present football players, coaches, etc. Will be erected hopefully by beginning of season this fall.

I know that was the case with Owensboro Catholic. they are 2A in football, but only 1A in basketball. Doesn't seem to make sense. I totally agree that the true all A schools should raise a stink about it.

Looking at all this weight some of these boys are putting up i dont get it. Russell boys have a couple strong ones, one of the strongest ones is the kicker Dwaine Evans so of the boys find that funny cause hes the kicker, but as of right now russell has noone benching of 300 or squatting 500 hundred but you better believe russell is bringing the heat when i say heat i mean speed, but yea they are coming back and running the Wing-t with speed and technique

Dont forget about Russell i mean look at all the big starters they got coming back i mean there is Clark of course, Sizemore, Jones, Wills, Gullet, Hicks, i think that is it correct if im wrong but also they got alot of talent that is gonna be steppin in so be ready for Russell to make another run.

My concern is that Fairview even though they have won 20 this year, has lost some of it's edge from early in the season. WIth that 1st rd loss at the All "A" and playing Boyd on their 'home' court, Boyd wins this one by less than 6. As far as the Rose Hill-Ashland game, I think the big crowd will have it's effect on Rose Hill. Ashland has been there done that. As much as I would like to see RH upset Ashland, I don't think it will happen until next years "district" tourny.

That makes sense. I just figured that these would be 2-3 day camps, not 1 day, which is okay, but I guess I just figured 1 day wouldn't get you a whole lot of individual help in your skill position.

Checked on-line. UofL has several 1day camps, UK and Georgetown College had no football camp, EKU has a one-day camp. Morehead State doesn't list any either. I was looking for a WR/DB type camp. MOst that I've seen our for linemen though. But you're probably right, I might just ask his position coarch to recommend one to us.

Anybody know of any of our colleges that offer summer football camps for High school players?

Have been reading all the posts and all the articles in the Ashland Daily and I agree that this was a total team effort. I especially liked the post from Russelldevil78 (I think that was the one) who commented about the scout team. I know for a fact those boys (mostly sophomores, some juniors) really worked their tails off during the week getting the starters ready for each game. A lot of these kids are talented in their own right and are just "waiting for their chance" to shine. I can't wait until next season to see which ones step up to replace our outstanding senior class this year. One other kudo that has been mentioned is the play of #11 Nick Lewis. I have watched this kid play for many years and I for one had total confidence in his ability to step up and play the type of game he had last Saturday. All he needed was the opportunity and when Horn went down, he took the chance and made the most of it on the biggest stage in HS football.

Since the other thread closed, I thought I'd start a new one. Let's try and keep it fact driven and try to avoid breaking rules 2 & 3 of BGP. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows if they empty the stadiums between each game on Saturday or do they just assign a block of seats for each team? Also can you purchase a package ticket for both friday and Saturday?

Any news on Jacob Sizemore? I seen him walk off holding his shoulder after the last play of the game.

Well, good lord willing, I won't have to worry about listening too them this week because I hope to be there in person plus I'm not one of those fans to watch and then listen to the game on headsets. But dress warm again, because the long range weather guy says the high will only get to 35 and their is a possibility of snow and the lows in the 20's. Crank up the hot chocolate and toastie toes.
