Lets not crown Covcath as the 35 district Champs just yet. If they can beat Holmes then we will, but I still think that Holmes can beat CCH without Rice and we will find out real soon. If this game happens the final score will be a three point win going to either team. I still think that 3 of the teams that could win the region reside in the 35. And the other two are also in the same district (NCC or Highlands).

Holmes High School - Class of 1993

I think it is still between the top 3 right now Holmes, Highlands, Covcath. I think the two dark horse's at this point though are NCC and Holy Cross. HC is playing well right now and could upset CCH in the District at Home. Holmes will be ready come district play, I had a feeling that they would struggle for a few games with the loss of Rice. Holmes has a had a few days to regroup now and we will find out on Friday where they stand. I still feel they are the team to beat and until they are knocked out of the district or region they are my pick to repeat. Call me a homer if you like, acctualy I prefer that title. So the Homer pick from me is that Holmes will still win the region without Rice. I still feel though that the other 4 teams mentioned above have the ability to win the region.

The bottom line is Holmes is going to have some issue's when they face teams that have size in the paint. Without Rice they are a very small team and last night NCC forced Holmes to beat them from the outside. That stratgedy paid off and NCC got the win. To answer your question, I feel that the 9th Region tourney will be a battle to the end. The dawgs have two more games before the districts start to tweak some things.

I heard that Ellis has been suspended from the team and his return is questionable.

I guess we will never know. People need to reallize how good this team is, even without Ellis and OJ. This team is the real deal.

oldcat, I was just messing around anyway, I agree that it is hard to bounce back from wood shed visits. We didn't really have much say so in the date of this game. We were also missing players as well, not saying that it would have mattered that much anyway. NCH has a solid squad, even without OJ and Ellis.

I am sure the birds would have done better right? I pretty sure that the dawgs aren't going to lose any sleep over this one either. At least Holmes had the guts to schedule a game like this. And to answer your question, No there is no danger in playing this game. Every game is a learning experience and I don't think they will see another inside presence like Walker all year. I heard that he was a beast. They took some notes and they are right after the one's that say "How to quite a bird on top of Cake Mountain"

You also have to understand that basicaly this same team that could some how self distruct or fall apart won the region last year. They lost Lexi and that is it, they are another year older and wiser. I am sorry, but I am alot closer to this team than the out side observers on here and the techinals are way down, the breakdowns are 10 times less frequent, and the bottom line is if it was last year Holmes would not have come back to beat Highlands like they did on Tuesday. They would have folded up tent. Is this team high strung, yes. But they have the will and the ability to get it done.

Anyone who thinks that Holmes doesn't have what it takes to repeat as Region champs doesn't have much knowledge of the game. Although stranger things have happened I feel it will be a three team race to win the 9th Bluebirds, Bulldogs, or Blue Colonels. A few others have an outside shot if they were to get hot that week, but imo that is doubtful. This is coming from someone who has seen all but a few teams play so far.

I don't think anyone in Covington is losing any sleep today. Holmes is and will be the favorite to win the district, The only people concerned with the Holmes situation is people outside of the program. The bottom line is Holmes has the horses to win, but hey I hope everyone loses sight of the bulldogs and starts writing them off.

Arrez Henderson from Holmes could be in the top group in 08'. He is only going to get better.

1. You are joking right about Jefferson not being able to stay with Vories. How many points did the kid that averages 20+ a game have. How successful was he in the second half. He didn't prevent Duran from really doing anything on his end either. I think you can chalk this up as Jefferson being the first person to put him in check. And you know what, this is the same think that three of my Bluebird friends told me after the game. Vories is a great player and had a great 1st quarter, but after that he was not that much of a factor IMO. I do think he is one the top players in the 9th though.

Very slow pased game, Ryle forced Holmes to play their style of basketball. In the end Holmes played well enough to win. Everyone knows the style of ball that you are going to see when you play Ryle and tonight was no different. Lets face it if they would have tried to run with the dogs it would have not have been the same outcome. Holmes shot poorly for the most part, but got the job done in the end. Ryle hussled the whole game and got the game to a two possesion game a couple of times. I don't have any stats for the game.

Holmes has also played Boyd Cty, Trinity, Ballard, Pendleton, We are still playing NCH next Sunday, CCH, Scott County, I am not sure who they played in the Pikeville Tourney that they won, So it is safe to say that Holmes will be battle tested come Regionals.

Very well said, I agree that the top three in the Preseason are HHS, Dixie, and Boone. As I said in another thread I believe that Dixie and Boone will be the top two seeds in our 4A district. The other two spots I think are wide open and could be taken by Ryle, Conner, SK, Holmes, or CC. I think Holmes will surprise some teams this year.

Holmes will be dropping to 3A!

I would say that the rivalry died off when I graduated in the early 90's. We quit playing them in football, now it is just another game. Holmes has built more rivalry's now with HC and Covcath in Bball. I heard it got really rowdy back in Ellis's day when these two teams played.

Holmes will be back in 3A after this upcoming season. So it could possibly be a 6 team district unless Grant or S. Oldham get moved.
