I was told Austin Hill had 30, can that be confirmed. I also was told Arez had a nice two hand slam. Also that Ben G and Rice almost got into it.

This is about just as I suspected 3-7 pt game is what I was thinking. CCH Highlands and Holmes are all in very very close striking distance of one another with Holmes being the favorites by a slim mark. In the series for each team against the other 2... CCH is -5 points, Holmes +8, and Highlands +3. That's close considering those points are with 2 games apeice.

It seemed as though Holmes played a very sloppy first half. Highlands played pretty consistant up until people started fouling out. Vories had a rough game from the field. Tanner had an excellent game as well as Guidulgi. Hill played exceptionally. Jefferson wasn't too much of a factor up until he started shooting free throws. That Arez kid has some jump in him too...

 

The refs were pretty inconsistant and IMO called a rough game. I know it was pretty heated at times, but there were more bad calls than usual for both sides.

Not much of a fight between Ben and Rice. The bigger fight was between Edmonson and I think #31 on the bench. Nice team chemistry

Were those the same refs from the superbowl it seemed like they just didnt no what they were doing. Highlands outplayed Holmes till the 4th quarter. Both teams had trouble shooting foul shots holmes more than Highlands. The birds just couldnt finish the job and Holmes just was too much.

Just got home from a very good game. Highlands came out smoking with a 21 pt first quarter. Holmes couldnt get any rythym, they were very frustrated. HHS played sticky man-man but Henderson and Hill can leap... and I mean leap. Hill was the best player on the floor for 4 quarters.

 

Vories had a 7 pt first quarter with 2 big shots with defenders on him. He was silent in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Edmonson didnt show up, period. I thought Vories outplayed Jefferson basically blew by him up the floor most trips. That takes nothing away from Jefferson, he is a player. Buried his FT's in 4th quarter. Tanner Johnson fouled out early in the 4th.

 

HHS missed 3 or 4 front end bonus FT situations in 2nd half. That would have probably helped them win the game but you gotta hand it to Holmes, they had a whale of a 2nd half. I would say Hill probably had over 25 pts. Simpson for HHS looked decent in the 1st half, had some stupid fouls in 2nd half but overall held his composure and made his FT's when he had to. He will be a dandy.

 

Henderson had a nice 2 hand slam off a vertical jump from a great pass from Duran.

 

I say if HHS is going to lose to the Bulldogs, let it be in the regular season. They can definitely play with them.

Nice win for Holmes.

Highalands played 26 minutes of really good basketball and then slowly started self destructing. Inconsistant calls, I agree but it went both ways it didn;t kill either team, Holmes came out the second half uping the tempo and that wore the Birds down. I do however can now agree that Holmes is the #1 in our region, but it will be a great regional tourney. IMO, and everybody has one The DAWGS are one big time bomb, and tick-tock, sooner or later their gonna explode. Rice has the potential to be great if he can keep his emotions in check. Grat game by Smith and Eaton, two unsung role players who both showed up big tonight, and congrats to Ben G, for not putting Rice in the third row even though he was begging for it. This stretch of games will have the birds ready for the tourney.

Random thoughts:

 

1. Holmes had no one who could stop Vories one-on-one.

 

2. I'e said it before and I'll say it again: Austin Hill is Holmes best player. Period.

 

3. Both teams stunk it up at the foul line tonight. What is DJ's FT%? I've watched him twice and he's struggled both times.

 

4. Tanner Johnson needs to control his emotions and not get himself in foul trouble. I love his hustle and toughness but he has to be smart.

 

5. Highlands proved that they can win the region.

There was no incident between Ben G and Rice. Ben was called for a walk, turned and looked in disbelief to the ref and, while he was still holding the ball, Rice yanked it out of his hand. There was a bit of jawing but that was it.

I'll say this, if Highlands wins the region, they will have earned it. Running through the 35th is a monumental task. Whichever team wins the region will have to beat 2 out of these 3 teams... or possibly all 3... the region will be won by the true champion.
