This is no big deal at Holmes. While its a shock to many of us suburbanites, that's just the way this bunch goes about it. They jaw at each other. They constantly look POd. They occasionally get in each other's grill like on the bench tonight. However, as we saw tonight, it has no negative effect on them. They're an emotional bunch but it doesn't seem to hurt the team.

I was amazed at how fast Vories is with the ball. He's a blur with nothing but elbows, knees, and hair flying up the court.

Yes there is definitely some BIG news coming from Holmes.. just no one wants to say it because all though I and others are 99.9% sure it's true there is no reason to state it yet... but it definitely could change some opinions about who will win region and POSSIBLY even district...

BTW, with all my praise for Vories, he's nowhere near the true PG that DJ is. He's THE best when it comes to finding the right player while penetrating. No one is really close in that regard.

After watching last nights game I do not think they have what it takes to win the region this year.

Holmes no doubt is the most atletic team I've seen this year and their potiental is topless. If I counted right they played 10 players in last nights game. Every rebound it seemed like Rice or Hill were shoulders above the rest. If they could run that fast paced tempo all game, i see only a few teams that can compete with them. Can't wait for the rematch with the Birds!!!

If Holmes doesn't have what it takes to win the region then who does? Sure, it's not already signed, sealed and delivered but jeeze if you can't see that they are the most athletic, road tested, tourney experienced (counting last year's trip to Rupp as SOPHOMORES) team then you got a serious layer of CAKE smudged all over your glasses.

 

The Birds certainly made a statement that they also are a tough team and gave the Bulldogs all that they could handle. I'm not saying that Holmes is unbeatable but until someone from the 9th Region beats them I don't know how they can't be viewed as the present favorite to win the 9th Region. When the season began the Bulldogs were the only team that I thought could represent the 9th Region this year and go far. Now I feel that the Birds could make a decent showing if by chance they end up at Rupp, but that's about it.

 

I think that Cov Cath is too soft. Talented players in a consistent program with no killer instints. I think that this is their problem most years. They're always fine clean cut young men who'd be frightened by their own shadows walking down an inner-city alley way. Not their fault nor is it a bad thing. Their future careers look bright, but to kick butt at Rupp you need to have a little taste for blood in your mouth. I think that the 'Dawgs' and the 'Birds' are the only teams in the 9th who fit this description.

 

I've always had a problem with the Bulldog's TEAM effort. They have too many superstars sometimes who all want the spotlight, but I think they regrouped well against the Birds when they got down by 13 and showed that they can play as a TEAM if they get their backs to the wall. The game against the Birds I think grew these guys up a bit and made them realize that team effort is what's gonna get them to Rupp and that there are no guarantees no matter how much talent you have. I think they might've earned a little respect for the Birds and realize that they too are a tough hard as nails bunch as well.

 

The winner of the 9th is not set in stone, but Highlands and Holmes are the only teams I'd care to see down at Rupp this year if the 9th expects to get out of the 1st round. But to say that Holmes doesn't have what it takes is WAY beyond my comprehension.

Anyone who thinks that Holmes doesn't have what it takes to repeat as Region champs doesn't have much knowledge of the game. Although stranger things have happened I feel it will be a three team race to win the 9th Bluebirds, Bulldogs, or Blue Colonels. A few others have an outside shot if they were to get hot that week, but imo that is doubtful. This is coming from someone who has seen all but a few teams play so far.

I think that CovCath players also lack a killer instinct but that was not always very visible in the 2003-2004 team that finished 3rd in KY, it developed towards the end of the year.

 

Also with the events that have unfolded in the last 48 hours at Holmes, I think CCH can very possibly beat Holmes. And from the game in January CCH beating Highlands is very possible also. This region is very very open.

I will agree with you about the part that Duran is a True Point Guard... but Jeffrey only plays the point by default. He is a 2G at heart and getting the ball on the wing off of screens would make him more effective. Jeffrey gets to the rim and has great baseline moves. Duran can get to the interior paint and by his man like a point guard should. His head is always on a swivel so he usually can make very nice passes by doing this. Vories has the scorers mentality and that is where they are different. Look, I think both of these guys have a tremendous amount of respect for each other and it probably isnt fair to say one is better than the other. We have to remember, these are just high school kids.....

would have to agree with you there.... Bulldogs can win the Region if they can handle any adversity during tournament time. But sometimes you just look at the emotional reactions of the players and you can tell that they are very close to losing it. I think the Birds can win as well but like someone else mentioned, they need to utilize their bench a little better to keep guys out of foul trouble. The Wise kid could have helped them bang the Bulldogs around a little and Eaton sat way too long.
