The Sandfoss and Pangallo brothers at Newport Catholic had a ton of points.

Corey and Justin Pelle are brothers. Steven, a sophomore, is their cousin. They both have around 450 each this year.

Junior Corey Pelle stole the spotlight from his brother Justin on Senior night. Corey led the way with 35 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds. Senior center Chris Story had 4 points and 4 rebounds in a 10-0 run in the second quarter. The Big Trains shot 14 of 16 from the free throw line.

I have seen Brossart, Silver Grove and Calvary all play multiple times this year. With their locations, they play multiple games with both 9th and 10th region officials. These games are called in completely different styles. I think much of Brossart's recent problems (they have played tough teams) but they aren't able to get away with hand checking in the 9th region, as in the 10th they are. Even this, it seems some officials have a chip on their shoulder that they have to travel from Paris to Silver Grove or that some of these teams don't play an entire schedule of 10th region teams. People should remember, its not what officials call, but a case of what they don't call that makes a difference in a game.

The D3 conference in NKY has some great seniors this year. Just this week, Romes puts up 41 last night (will make a small college very happy), Penick signs with Wright State, Wight drops 38 will nine threes and Justin Pelle continues his consistent play with 30 pts and 14 rebounds, still playing on an injured ankle. Corey Pelle will be the best returning player in the conference, as the Grove returns 6 of its top 8.

I don't think people realize Silver Grove is the smallest public school in the state with 81 students (only 35 boys). Given this, they have played Brossart twice, Campbell Co., Scott, Newport, Beechwood twice and Fleming Co. Pretty good schedule given their size. They are required to play all D3 teams twice. The Pelle Brothers have scored 20 a game whether its Brossart or Heritage. Last night against a good Beechwood team, Corey had 15 points and 14 rebounds as the point guard and brother Justin had 30 pts and 14 reb. Not bad being 5'11''. As for the other starters, Allen a 6'2'' junior has never played organized basketball ever. Faulkner a 6'3'' senior first picked up a basketball as a sophomore, and Wiseman, a junior guard, never played more than 10 minutes a game before this year. I have seen them a few times and they are very exciting team to watch.

Score was actually 79-59, with SG up 20 after the first quarter. Subs played much of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters. Big Train senior Justin Pelle scored his 1000 pt in the first quarter. Deming's coaches and players have been through plenty of adversity throughout the season. They do have a good shot of getting to the region however. Good luck to the Devils and the Big Trains.

When are these three players expected to be back?

Does anyone know if the boys final is on TV on Sunday in N. KY? It has in many of the past years.

Those rankings look a little more accurate. Although Campbell has a losing record, they can beat anyone on a given night.

The Grove won by 16, 59-43, without senior Justin Pelle who is out with an ankle injury. They played the majority of the first half without his brother Corey who had two fouls in the first forty seconds.

Also, I must take Coach Herald to task a bit(even as a supporter of what he's accomplished). Why say the following: "I can only play kids who LIVE IN MY SCHOOL DISTRICT (emphasis added)" when talking about reasons for the Catholic schools' success over the last 15 years. Anyone else catch this? Anyone else notice the picture? I would think a coach from Beechwood or Highlands would not do well playing the "privates have an unfiar advantage" card. Herald has a habit of speaking before thinking and not showing much class. His JV beat Silver Grove's JV 58-6, with two varsity contributors jacking up threes late into the third quarter. In the varsity game, Silver Grove had subbed once down 20 with two minutes to go (the same kids who already were just beat by 52) and Herald kept Sawyer in the game to jack up threes. When the Grove's coach questioned him on his class or lack thereof, Herald proceeded to drop the "F" you on SG's coach. And I witnessed all of this from the stands. What type of example is that to his kids?

I was looking forward to the game at TMC. These two teams have more wins combined this year than Thomas More has in the past five years. It would have been the best and most fundamental game that court has seen in years.

Both teams have played good schedules given the size of each school. The Grove struggled early after taking on Scott, Campbell, Brossart and Newport-and even had the Wildcats down 15 points. The Big Trains have won four in a row, all by double digits. Beechwood has played 6 games in 10 days, including CovCath and South Laurel. Should be a good one in Fort Mitchell tonight.

So if there is a three way tie, is there a possibility of a blind draw where Calvary and the Grove could play each other and the winner goes to the regionals? And then Brossart, Scott and Campbell would all be on the other side of the bracket?

After playing Scott, Campbell Co, Brossart and Newport before Christmas, its great to see the Big Trains get a win at Bracken who started out 5-0. Looks like the Pelle boys got their usual 20 a piece, with the other three starters all chipping in 8-12 points. Aaron Allen, a 6'3 junior who has never played organized basketball at any level, had a double-double. Good Luck to the Trains as they enter their D III Conference schedule.
