No problems at all? What if Newport plays as well or better as they did last week? Holy Cross stayed within 14 of both NewCath and Beechwood and Newport had them down late in the fourth quarter.

Just watched Cincinnati Moeller kick a field goal with 2 seconds left to win a game over St. Edward. (And watch the replay of the kickoff return with 2 seconds left, I think it set a new world record for laterals.) Anyway the question is this: Is there any rules about "Field of Play" conforming to certain standards? I ask because Moeller plays all of their home games at Nippert Stadium which has college size goal posts. One could argue that this is an advantage to Moeller because their kicker is used to them.

Would seem to be a mis-match by won/loss records but is it? Newport just edged out by Holy Cross last week in the last minutes. Dayton rolling along over class A foes and Lloyd in the last few games. Last year Newport shut Dayton out. Can they stop those Greendevils again? And the Winner is???

Can Ryle bounce back from the emotion game last week? Is Dixie starting a run towards the playoffs after balding the Scott Eagles? Will Dixie run the ball less than 20 times? Will Ryle throw it more than 10? Who wins?

This looks to be a real good one. Camels rolling after a QB switch and packing a pretty good defense. NewCath breaking in a tangle out of the gate then coming with a rush to win going away by daylight in the last three games. Plus they haven't played in a couple of years so that adds to the interest. Who ya got?

For years Bellevue has used a similar play on punts to throw a pass. What they do is appear to be ready to punt after an unsuccessful third down. A few players come on and a few come off. One player (who was near the line of scrimmage) walks off towards ths sidelnes slowly and starts "arguing" with a coach about the last play. The coach and the player continue their argument while the team gets in punt formation. The player stops just before the sideline with his back to the field of play still yelling at the coach. The coach simply yells "Go" when the ball is snapped and the player takes off down the sideline wide open.

Kind of hard to answer your question (about THIS year) only because I'm not sure if any areas even have teams in all of most of the classes. I mean NKY doesn't have any 3A or 4A schools, but we are fortunate to have large numbers of teams in the other classes. Lexington is kind of spaced out with top teams in 1A, 4A, and 6A, but how far does the Lexington area reach geographically for this purpose? Same with Lousiville, with obviously most of the teams being 6A size. Basically look at Cincinnati. Always have a ton of top D1 teams and usually have pretty good D2 teams. Occasionally, a D3 to D6 school makes some noise. But I'd still say the level of football played there is pretty high even though it might not be top to bottom. You may very well be correct that NKY is playing the best top to bottom but it may be because they are one of the few areas that have teams top to bottom.

You make good points but I don't know............. 6A: Like you said dominated by Louisville schools and this seems to be about an average year for NKY 6A schools when compared to the top teams in 6A. 5A: Highlands obviously a pretty good team, but not a whole lot behind them. CovCath injuries/inexperience and Dixie has stood out. Overall, a good year not a great year. I realize HH and CC are playing up but if they weren't HH would be at the top of 3A. CC and Dixie would not be at the top of 4A or 5A. 4A: No teams 3A: No teams 2A: NewCath looks on track to make a run and looks better than last year at this point. Two tough tests in the next two weeks. Actually kind of disappointed in the other NKY 2A teams as I thought they would be better overall. 1A: Beechwood obviously a pretty good team, and Dayton is having a very nice season for a 1A team. Thought Bellevue and Ludlow would be closer to Beechwood than what they've shown in district and out of district. I guess I think its an average to maybe slightly above average year overall to this point but IMO not the best NKY year ever when compared to the rest of the state.

Not a moral victory but an improvement upon earlier efforts, and that is all teams are playing for right now. Lloyd showed mini-moments of being good earlier this year. Led Dayton 14-6 late in the second quarter and was driving for another score when they fell apart and lost 42-14. Then couldn't put Bellevue away when leading 20-6 because of turnovers even though they went on to win that game. This game tied 7-7 midway thru the second quarter and really dominated play after NCC had scored in just three plays to start the game. Even after that Lloyd had a great drive to start the second half when down 28-7. Fumbled it away on an NCC all-out blitz at the 10 yard line. So even though they gave up 49 the defense played better than earlier in the year and even though they only scored 14 the offense played better than earlier in the year. No improvement in special teams is still a concern.

Defense did not score and gave up 14. Lloyd blew a punt snap with 50 seconds to go in the half and NCC went 36 yards in 17 seconds. They had one fumble recovery and one INT, but Lloyd had a lot of first downs. Offense looked okay at times, very average at others. Helps to have short fields due to Lloyd having a bad kicking game.

Lloyd made a game of this one until midway in the second quarter. From that point a 7-7 game quickly turned into a 28-7 game. Lloyd moved the ball pretty well on the night both in the air and on the ground. A fumbled at the NCC 10 stopped the first drive after the half and earlier in the game an interception stopped another in NCC territory. NCC came out and scored in 3 plays, then couldn't mount another drive until midway thru the second quarter. Kues had a nice night running the ball and a couple of nice passes. Completion rate wasn't very high for NCC and they used the no huddle offense pretty much all night. Lloyd was much improved on defense from earlier in the season despite giving up 49 points. The kicking game still is bad though and that killed them tonight against a team which pretty good special teams. If Lloyd improves just a little on offense and defense in the last two weeks and can somehow shore up the special teams, the Holy Cross playoff game should be a good one.

I'll also say congrats and once again make known my dismay that volleyball plays their State tourney on many Senior nights for football. If I am not mistaken NCC football plays their final home game against the Camels that night at 7.

Who says numbers are dwindlings overall? I would guess that the numbers are kids pkaying football in high school in KY is likely up over the last 20 years as KY has become more of a football state and less of a basketball state.

If they are only going to be used once a year as in CovCath's case, they are adequate.

I think Brossart and Scott will be fine. Unfortunately the depth at such a small school like Silver Grove go in cycles, and this year could see some of those teams the Big Trains beat last year turn the tables this year.

That's why I said in any class. Top 10 in any class with 6 classes is not as strong as Top 10 with 4 classes. And if we ever went back to 3 classes those Top 10 would be stronger than the 4 class ones.

He (the punter) was on the field a lot more last year when NCC started 2-5. 2006 points per game thru 7 games was 16.5. 2007 points per game thru 7 games is 30.1.

I do agree that the district "appears" to be stronger this year when in reality it is due to the move to 6 classes. A team can be ranked in the Top 10 in any class and really only be in the top third of their class. when there are only 33-36 teams in a class being #10 is not the same as when there were 52-54 teams in a class. If you doubt that go back to 2000 or 2005 when Beechwood, NCC, and Bellevue all had very good teams. Pretend NCC (and HC) were in 2A and out of that mix and you still had some very good teams left in district. However, the district overall now is not as strong as it was when NCC and HC were in with Dayton, Bellevue, Ludlow.
