We had a defensive tackle who's nickname was cyclops. We were playing Paris that year and they were running his side at will. At halftime coach Webb asks " What are you doing cyclops they own you. You're giving up so much yardage they're going to put up a sign over there and open a subdivision and call it Cyclops Acres." It was all I could do not to spit out my gatorade.

JC alumi your coaches are lucky no one was severely injured if they taught you to go in with your head down. While for years we taught to lead with the face mask which keeps your head up thus making you less likely to have a neck injury. I am all for safety, but just leave the spearing penalty in place, leading with the crown of the helmet and let them play football.

One of my fellow coaches told me the KHSAA is looking to retire some of their older officials. Do you think there should be an upper age limit or base it on their abilities. I know one of these, not by name, but from doing some of our games who should've gave it up ten years ago. He has a hard time just getting out of players way when they run his sideline, and it created some dangerous situations, and some bad calls simply because the game was to fast for him.

Must have been ten years ago at an Owen County Frankfort High game. The officiating was pitiful and towards the end of the game Frankfort had a player injured. The head coach and trainer went to check on the player and by the time they left the field the head coach, trainer, and a player had all been ejected. This all happened on a play in which Owen had scored, so after all penalties had been enforced Owen kicked off from the 15 yard line with FHS's front five on the 5 yard line.

Practice is against each other the scrimmages we are speaking of are against other teams, so no it is not what I would call practice. I know when I played I sure loked forward to our first scrimmage, because you got to hit someone new.

We do not charge our parents to watch practice, but we do charge for scrimmages, because as previously stated it costs the school just as much to put on a scrimage as it does to play a game.

I guess we'll just pack it in this year since we have no chance.
